The San Angelo Visitor Center is located on the banks of the Concho River between US Highway 87 North and South. Visitors can experience the beauty of the Concho River through the huge windows in the Visitor Center. The Center sits in close proximity to the Historic District, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Paseo, Fort Concho, the International Water Lily Garden, and other attractions. The Center offers visitor information for San Angelo as well as other Texas regions.

The fort, founded in 1867 as a frontier outpost to protect early West Texans against unfriendly Native Americans, drew settlers who founded San Angelo. Attractions on the fort grounds include the E.H. Danner Museum of Telephony, Concho Valley Pioneer Heritage Center, the Robert Wood Johnson Frontier Medical Museum, officers' quarters and a reference library (open by appointment). Admission $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and military, and $1.50 for children 6-17.

San Angelo State Park is a 7,563-acre park at O.C. Fisher Reservoir along the western boundary of the city. The park offers fishing, water recreation, wildlife viewing, picnicking and camping, as well as 50 miles of continuous, multi-use trails for horseback riders, hikers, and mountain bikers.
