Very comfortable bed and the room was very nice but only milk, coffee, tea and towels for one person despite there being two of us. Also when we tried to use the phone for room service and reception the phone wouldn't work. Furthermore we did arrive at 10.30pm and asked for a coffee in the bar we were told that we were too late.
After a long journey from London and a long day it was all a bit below par.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mikeyo Not an airport hotel
We stayed at this hotel the night before our flight, party of 3 adults & 4 children. we used the stay, park & fly package.
I would not recommend this hotel as an airport stay, the shuttle service doesn't start until 5am which is not good for an early morning flight as we had to leave the hotel at 4.30am. We asked the reception staff to book a seven seater taxi as we didn't have any luggage due to night before check-in. The member of staff we made the request to did just that but unfortunately her colleague the following morning took it upon herself to change our booking to 2 taxi's - she assured us it would cost the same but I personally could't see how & it didn't. One taxi cost £10 and the other cost £9.
Upon our return the whole process to get back to the hotel is such a hassle, take the 'free' shuttle from the airport to the train station, then take the holiday inn shuttle service - too much hassle with luggage and young children so we took a taxi again but this time all 7 of us in one at a cost of £8.
The hotel was busy when we stayed as they were hosting a wedding. There was one member of staff for other hotel guests and she was doing everything, waiting tables, serving behind the bar, clearing and cleaning tables. We ordered hot food but had to wait almost an hour and then it wasn't inspiring, not very hot and quite tasteless, expensive too. The menu's on the tables were riddled with spelling errors and in some cases the wrong use of words, very confusing. The bar area was dirty.
Our rooms were lovely and clean although one of our rooms didn't have the correct amount of beds made up, the response from the reception staff was 'would you like some help making up the beds'? Overall, not a good experience and start to our holiday, very stressful and the staff were not friendly or helpful, there wasn't a manager on site either #or so we were told#.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mebo Good place to stay - could do better
Family of five and had booked joining rooms directly with IHG, however on arrival Hotel had not reserved room. Manager sorted it all out with a short delay and we had joining rooms. It always disappoints me how complicated it is to get joining rooms in a hotel. It should be easy, and reliable if booked well in advance.
Hotel is good, nice facilities, excellent swimming pool. Sauna wasn't working when we were there and jacuzzi on off button was a bit erratic. A bit noisy during the night with kids running up and down corridors, thankfully they weren't ours! Fire alarm went off also during the night, false alarm.
There is a nice restaurant, with sun room section. The staff seem to discourage the use of this area, and also when we wanted to sit on a round table being five of us for breakfast we were asked not to. As it was set up for dinner. This was strange considering it was breakfast time. The manager sorted it out for the next few days, but we felt a bit awkward. Fortunately the food was great for dinner, great deal for kids, and good service. Breakfast was excellent, but for cold bacon, not really cooked thoroughly, and broken overheating toaster. One final gripe was the car parking. As a guest staying in the hotel, particularly an airport hotel, I don't expect anywhere I stay to have to pay parking. Unfortunately this hotel does charge. The exit gate was open so we had to still shove in card otherwise the system didn't know we had left, strange set up.
We would definitely stay again, but would have to be assured all the above issues were fixed and resolved. As regular travellers to Birmingham this was our first time staying here, and loved the location, so handy, and swimming pool, rooms and staff were very friendly.
We just felt with a little more effort and some insight on customer care, that experience would be much better. Especially in the restaurant it should be made more inviting. Encourage people to sit where ever they like, make it brighter and remove the plexi glass in the entrance doors, it looks cheap.
I am a big fan of IHG hotels, and book first with them around the world. I would return to BHam Holiday Inn and recommend you visit and I hope hotel sort out the small quirky items mentioned above.

All in all a pleasant stay. Fantastic service from receptionist and lounge/bar staff. Then it goes downhill when we went into the restaurant for dinner. Long wait. Worst steak I have eaten. Non attentive staff.
On the upside great room. Clean and comfortable.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by dave78 Make it child friendly!
To Whom It May Concern,
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport for the duration 23/August -26/August 2013 for three nights with my husband and two boys, 4yrs old and 19month old.
I was happy with the room, although a little too small for a family of 4, it was clean and presentable. The bathroom fan was not working and it was too wet all the time, not allowing it to dry. I soon realised that the mini bar was full and my boys were going to play around with it, running up a bill so I got worried. I asked the receptionist if it was possible to have the items removed, to make it possible for me to put my carton of soya milk for my little boy... who would need it in the evening as he was not eating and teething. I also needed to use soya as he has milk allergy. The receptionist was not very helpful and said they were not allowed to remove items from the mini bar and that I have to ask the kitchen staff for storage of the milk carton. Although, she did agree and locked the minibar...so it would not run up a bill, even if an item was touched by the children (not consumed).
We had to keep going to reception/or ringing them, to ask simple q's of the times breakfast would be served, hotel swimming pool etc. These things should have been clarified at the time of checking it, as it was very annoying and difficult having to keep going/ringing, with two kids. I didn't find the hotel child friendly at all....the swimming pool temperature was cold and my 4yr old got sick on Saturday night. I booked this particular hotel due to the pool and gym facilities it offered and the temperature of the water was not welcoming! My 19month old who normally loves water cried and refused to go in as he was shivering, hence didn't allow me to swim. My 4yr old had a bad temperature Saturday night, Sunday night and even after we returned home. It spoilt our trip, as we were nursing him instead of going out. We were exhausted and tired by the end of it, instead of it being a relaxing weekend break.
Please make the swimming pool warm and train your staff to give basic info at the time of checking in.

Great hotel, stayed here on 3 occasions now. The queen size bedroom with sofa bed for children was very modern & clean.Childrens duvet could have done with being bigger.
Used the swimming pool excellent, steam room out of order, & Jacuzzi alittle tempremental,(on switch didn't work every time).
We ate in the bar, very nice, but food prices had increased quite a lot since last visit.
Overall very happy with room, bathroom & hotel.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mpj234 Insecure Park & Stay
The hotel was fine but the so-called on-site parking was a fantasy. In fact, the parking was about 300 yards away in an old NCP muti-story car park. This is insecure by normal hotel on-site parking standards. It is easily accessible from the road. There is no barrier on either entry or exit, and no sign of any on-site security. There is a CCTV warning notice outside, but there were no noticable cameras inside (maybe they were cunningly well hidden, or few and far between). There is a pedestrian access at the side, which is not over-looked (except by what looked like a roadside burger vending van), giving access to a staircase strewn with dog-ends, litter, and what looked like bits of broken plastic (not from cars, I hope, but I did wonder). If you take this staircase, and take a wrong turn, you find yourself in a derelict and vandalised toilet. I spent my holiday wondering what kind of car-wreck I would come back to. In the event, everything was fine, but I won't risk it again and I strongly discourage anyone from doing so.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn, (old) Birmingham airport several times. Every time has been good! The staff are helpful and polite and nothing is too much trouble. Pleanty of car parking, and even though there is a charge, it's within a safe enclosure. The bedrooms that I have had have been of a good, modern standard and flat screen TVs provide the extra touch that I like. The breakfast is first class and plenty of room to use. I am a Platinum card member and stay in hotels all over Europe and USA. This one is a good standard and good value! I will continue using this when in the Birmingham area.

We stay at this hotel often and generally it is good but over the year we have seen the standard steadily decline.
Our last stay was the worst. We were offered a very poor room with a noisy air con system, broken toilet seat and a broken sofa bed for the kids.
We complained but got no response or apology. Spent 4hrs finding an alternative room the next day.
At the end of our 2 night stay all we were offered was free parking and breakfast (quality of which is very, very poor).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sagittar Convenient for Birmingham Airport
Well-placed for BHX, the refurbished Birmingham HI offers all the usual amenities. It's ideal for an overnight stay before an early flight, although some may find the 07.30 start for breakfast service rather late for an airport location. The shuttle service bus, efficiently driven, the driver helpful & obliging, goes to Birmingham International Railway Station (also NEC access\) from where there is a monorail link to the airport every 2 minutes.
The disappointment was dinner. The menu was somewhat restricted - in contrast to previous stays at the same hotel. In the past we judged the range of food on offer rivaled the alternative Crowne Plaza. with a specific vegetarian menu. On this occasion, we found only two options available, pizza or pene. However, the high point was the waiting staff, very friendly & helpful & the special alternative, vegetable curry was excellent.

I had booked a room but it was the day before as I got my dates mixed up. The receptionist booked me in for the night at a great rate AND upgraded me, my parking was free the next morning. Thats what Loyalty is about. I WAS a Platinum Elite, but slipped to Gold Elite so I am making every effort to get back, this sort of treatment is the reason why.

I stayed here mid July after a cancelled and subsequent redirected flight, I arrived at the hotel at 11.30 at night. I walked in with no booking and the staff were excellent from the outset, my priority status was immediately recognised and I was offered a room upgrade, the bar remained open till 1am so I could have a drink and I was offered to have the room service menu in the bar. The general attitude of the staff to everything I asked for was extremely friendly, I'm impressed.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BlancaJohn Standards have dropped below acceptable levels.
I have used this hotel a number of times in the past and fool that I am I keep hoping things will improve.
There was no a/c in my room and having driven through the night I was desperate for rest, my south facing room was like a greenhouse. At first I was offered a rather noisy fan, that just made matters worse. A room change involved a stroll around the corridors, no assistance with luggage, only to find the room (box) with the a/c. At this point I gave up and slept.
I have seen the food on previous visits and nothing on the plates gave me any reason to think that there had been any improvement.
A beer at the bar made London prices seem cheap, the pipes need cleaning to boot. We took our meal and drinks at a restaurant in Solihull.
I made my comments known to the member of staff at the desk and completed the customer survey which no doubt found it's way into the bin. The cost of the refurbishment is wasted without a complete shake up, I suspect from the top down.
Tell the truth about your rates and include the extras, the car parking charge and the shrug of shoulders was the final straw, never again..

I was sad to see that there has been a reduction in services at this hotel from our previous stays, to the point that we may now chose another hotel in the area. this hotel needs to raise it's standards not reduce them i.e. facilities staff and menu's. I have stayed in many IHG hotels around the world even in pooere countries there standards are higher.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SomersetTraveler Indifference and lack of customer service from front desk staff
We chose this particular Holiday Inn for the last two nights of a two-week stay in the UK because of its proximity to Birmingham Airport and for its advertised amenities (free shuttle service, AC, Internet access, parking). Well, the AC appeared limited to the rooms, something which made the corridors and front lobby uncomfortably warm during the particularly hot days we were there. The wireless Internet was limited to the lobby, which itself was not a significant issue and was indeed advertised as such. But the parking was very limited, with many guests parking their cars anywhere they could find a spot, often blocking other cars in as a consequence. But our biggest issue was with the shuttle service, or lack thereof. Apparently, the much-advertised free shuttle service to and from Birmingham International Rail Station (which is linked to the airport) turned out not to be reliable after all. We had to return a rental car at the airport and were going to rely on the shuttle to get back to the hotel the day before our departure from the UK. We asked the front desk a couple of times where we would find the shuttle waiting but were given only the most vague explanations, something that seemed in character with a front desk team that seemed bored and indifferent to customers. Well, when we went to look for the shuttle and found none at the rail station, we called the hotel and were told point blank that the shuttle wasn't running and wouldn't until that evening. No explanation why. We took a taxi back and I asked the front desk staffer for a reason why it wasn't running. He wouldn't tell me. When I told him we had booked the hotel precisely because of that service that made it possible for travelers to get to the airport, he simply smiled sarcastically as if to say "too bad for you." Luckily, there was a shuttle the following day but only because I specifically requested it. We were the only two passengers aboard. Apparently all the other guests knew something we didn't: that this free shuttle service is simply not be relied upon, which would explain the parking lot filled beyond capacity with cars and the lack of people actually using the shuttle. We can't in good conscience recommend this hotel for travelers looking for an overnight stay near Birmingham Airport.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TravellingCatMan Good hotel - poor option for breakfast
The location suits me well and I like the hotel a lot but it's the IHG breakfast policy that's starting to annoy me (probably outside of the hotels choices).
There seems to be an increasing occurrence of being offered a full breakfast at well over £10 whereas all I require is a bowl of porridge.
The ability to be selective and pay for a specific item in isolation seems like its disappearing.
IHG are endeavouring to force people into a standard selection at a fixed price and that doesn't 'fit' with the usual fairness and flexibility of the IHG group.
I emailed IHG Customer Services about this on June 20th but have not yet had a reply 2 weeks later! maybe the hotel can apply some pressure?

Stayed at the Birmingham Airport Holiday Inn with my family as a stop over for our main Holiday and it was brilliant 5 minutes on the Holiday Inn shuttle from the international train station, which you must go, to so that you can catch the shuttle, the train station is only 2 minutes from the Airport via mono rail.
We got the shuttle to drop us off at the International Train Station so that we could go to the Cadbury Museum, which took about 45 minutes, but that was only because we had to change trains. All in all a great place to stay for a stop over or a Base to visit Birmingham from.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KarlS Great place to stay!
On arrival greeted very pleasantly and efficiently by the front of house staff. Rather surprised that I was given a free upgrade to business class room which included access to the business lounge including free internet access, complementary drinks and snacks. Very surprised and unexpected!!!
The bedroom was superb, certainly the best room with regards comfort and ease of work which I have stayed at any Holiday Inn brand.
I was also very surprised that the noise levels were very quiet considering I could see the runway at Birmingham airport just a couple of hundred metres away and I didn't hear any noise from the planes.
All in all, thoroughly recommended.
Only downside with this brand is the cost of breakfast. I suppose if you have a full breakfast it is good value for money. Myself, I only have a continental and 11 GBP is excessive for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast - no fault of the hotel only the brand!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by adrianplatinummember If that's one of the better rooms....And don't rely on the promised airport shuttle either
I had booked this on Priority Club- Platinum, as flying the next morning from Birmingham airport.
I wondered why the curtains of my room were already drawn closed when i went into my room- it was so i did not see the view of a concrete wall! Yes, the room was below ground level. I complained to reception as I thought being a Platinum member my room may have been upgraded. Turns out this IS one of their upgrade rooms. Receptionist was polite but a "shrug shoulders" attitude was not helpful. I mentioned that my welcome letter says there was complinentary bottled water- there wasn't . response was "oh, housekeeping must have forgotten it, I can get you some if you want". Was too tired to pursue this. So, headed to my "bunker". Few minutes later another member of staff came, full of apologies. I showed him the "view"- he was not impressed!! He arranged a prompt change of room for me. Not much better view, but nicer room.
Slept fine, went on my trip- thanks to the included courtesy mini-bus to Birmingham International station. Driver gave me number so I could let hotel know I'd arrived back. Called it on the Sunday, only to be told "Oh, the minibus is not running today; you'll have to pay for a taxi yourself". I asked if the hotel would be refunding me the taxi fare, and was given a decisive "no". So much for "complimentatry hotel shuttle"
Overall, I'd not stay here again. Priority club platinum membership has little bearing on how you are treated as a guest, and to simply abandon me on my return to get my own taxi was terrible customer service.
