Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BobWfromCal Over-nite stay was great
I will be doing business again in Duluth area -I will certainly drive an extra 30-40 miles just to make sure this hotel is where I stay. Comfortable and quiet -I was even on the floor just above the pool. Barely heard the kids swimming (not mine!).
I highly recommend making this a place to stay.

We are from Thunder Bay and came on an impulse trip to duluth. We unfortunatly picked a weekend a hockey/soccer tournament was happening and we were given a 8th floor room that was very close to the pool. It would have been perfect if it werent for the screaming kids till 10pm,but then it was unavoidable..but it would have been nicer to have been roomed further away from all the kiddy action. The location is perfect for walking to canal park, the driver took us to red lobster right away ,service was awesome, and desk staff apologetic for the noise. The location is very convienient, have stayed here before and always enjoy this hotel. We did get upgraded for being a priority club member so that was nice

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by sweetberry Rooms and location were good but.....
Overall the accommodations were nice. The front desk staff was kind. I travel often for work and for my sons hockey. This particular trip was a hockey trip. Our AAA association had six teams at the Battle of the Bay tournament and occupied a good portion of the hotel since most of us came 4+ hours. The part that was dissatisfying was as parents we spend most of our days in rinks and at night would like to relax with other parents. I understand that large establishments require rules to keep order but seriously making the parents go to there own rooms at 10:30. Last time I checked we were all adults and no longer needed a curfew. When management was asked if we could use the lobby, we were told NO! We asked if we could rent a hospitality room. Again told NO! We were told that we could go to a local bar. Not really a fan of leaving my children to go to a bar but would like some adult time after they are sleeping. I suggest that for future events in your hotel, flex some rules or provide alternatives for familys and friends. Maybe keep the pool open till 11:30 on the weekends. For the amount of money that was paid to stay there, the night time manager was not kind or understanding. With hockey being as popular in the north that it is, I find it difficult to believe that this is the first complaint. No one was being beligerant or rude and even offered to pay for another room to RELAX in. A negative atmosphere was created for our group.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sally414 Comfortable, great views if on the east side of the building
Overall a pleasant stay. The only negative is that it is not located on the water where some of the other hotels are. However, it is right downtown and connected to everything by means of the skywalk system (a series of covered enclosed pathways).

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mommap nice room
Stayed for 3 nights, with my son and my mom. Room was comfortable and quiet even though we were close to elevator. Housekeeping awesome, staff at front desk informative, but large main restaurant needs some attention. Setting is beautiful, food not so great. Orange seed in hot water for tea, hair in ketchup dish and dried up food on 2 forks. Coffee could have been hotter. We only ate their once as it turned us off for the rest of the time. Would stay again at the holiday inn for the price, hotel otherwise good.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WillandBecca great hotel
We were very impressed with the room quality! Very clean and nice. Only cons were there was no breakfast and a tiny old fridge in the room (but the fridge did keep our pop cool). The front desk staff was extremely friendly and courteous. Would stay here again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by kpaulpt Great Hotel, great location!
We stayed here while attending our son's graduation from UMD. The ceremony was at Amsoil Arena, so we could walk from the hotel through the skyway. This was wonderful! We also paid for the breakfast plan which was great too. The only thing we did not have that would have been nice was a refrigerator in the room. We were by the pool which was convenient, but there were lots of kids running in the hallways for an hour after the pool closed. Overall, stay was great and we will go there again.

Duluth -2nd visit- Room 612 Do I real have to hold the toilet handle down to flush the toilet? It is obvious it had been plunged numerous times by the marks down low! So, So slow I wondered what was going on? Are we going back to the 30's?

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by GAnn Good service - good parking
We thought the bed was to firm, the faucet in the bathroom was a nightmare to turn on and water pressure was not very good. The personnel were very nice and helpful. The entrance and parking by the lobby to sign in was quite convenient and getting to your floor from parking lot was also convenient. At this time I wouldn't recommend the hotel because of the room comfort.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by dkinec Run down hotel with crazy elevator service
This hotel is pretty run down and in need of maintenance. The room was smaller than expected and decor is outdated. There are almost no electrical outlets for anything you need to plugin. The bathroom area is cramped.
The elevator situation is crazy. Three elevators that stop on every floor going up or down. There were so many maintenance and cleaning workers going up and down with large carts, etc that there was hardly room for guests.

We stayed here for UMD's 2013 Spring Graduation Ceremony. My elderly parents were with us as well. Rebecca was very helpful through various emails and by phone when we made a special request to have a refrigerator in our room. She was able to reserve a room for us that met all of our needs and an extra perk for us was the AMAZING view of the Duluth Lift Bridge right from our window. Our parents had not been to Duluth for over 65 years so to be able to stand in our hotel room and watch out the window 3 different ships enter or leave via the lift bridge was 1 of the MANY highlights of their trip. They are already talking about a return visit. We highly recommend Holiday Inn Duluth Downtown. It's easy access via the sky walk to DECC was great!

In Duluth for the weekend and wanted to be close to downtown area. The room was great and beds comfortable, I did put the heating/cooling fan on low to cover some of the noise in hallway when we were trying to sleep. I used the fitness centre both mornings and would have like to use the pool as well but ran out of time. We had breakfast from the Greenery both mornings, love the fact they have Starbucks! Pleased to find out the shuttle would take us to nearby restaurants if not doing airport runs, so we could leave vehicle in covered parking.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by tessiejo avoid rooms by pool
Checked into an almost full hotel. Not told hotel under construction when I made the reservation. Given room by pool. Screaming children, no sound insulation.Constant loud noise until 10:30 pm. Hallways under construction -- no carpeting, bare cement. 10 minute wait for elevator. People walking down 8 flights because of no elevators. Not enough staff to check people in.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NatureGirl Great Location!
I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn. The location was great as it provided easy access to Canal Park via the skywalk system. The parking was great too - free! I would recommend this location to anyone. There were shops within the Holiday Inn Complex/Skywalk as well providing easy dining options - sit down or grab and go. I would have liked to see a lower rate, but for the ease of access and free parking I can't complain too much.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TravellingGrandparents Ideal location for skyway use
We had to make several changes to our reservation as the date came near. Spoke with different desk agents each time. Kara remembered speaking with us when we arrived and our resevation was exactly what was promised after several changes! Bravo! Our grandaughter was participating in a dance competition; the walkway was very convenient due to weather . We have stayed at this location before , but never used skyway sytem as much. It was very convenient.
On site affiliated restaurants seemed not to be ready for the full house it was and the food quality and options were lacking something.
Staff was service orientated and seemed happy to be there!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bdp6407 Room, service, pool.
The King Suite was a good room with plenty of space for us. The problem is that it was right off the pool. Loud til kids went to bed and strong chlorine smell.
Asked for a shower chair for my husband - 1st night - 3 calls. No response. 2nd night - called 2x's - didn't call back. The manager gave Holiday dollars for the first night, but no call, apology, or anything else for the 2nd night.
Under construction - wasn't bothered at all by that.
Good location to the Civic Center.

The place was easy to find and wonderful to be in downtown Duluth. The room was great nice view comfortable and convenient. Late at night I did hear noises coming from the room next to me, I thought that their refrigerator was shaking and going to blow up or something then I heard some gasps and what sounded like a muffled scream, I got worried and thought about calling the desk when I realized that there were two people in that room and it was not the refrigerator at all but the sounds of something else, must have been watching the sisterhood of the traveling pants or something. The staff was wonderful and attentive, I left a note asking for extra shampoo but did not find it the next day, i think the housekeeping staff knew I was bald and gave away the hotel toiletries to my friends. They did leave some extra lotion which is nice for my dry skin. Thanks so much

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cleoeyes Dirty Bathroom and No where to eat
We were there for a convention of about 800 people. There were only three elevators and only 8 people at a time could use them, It was very hard to get to where we needed to nbe. My daughter switched rooms to a two room suite and the childrens bathroom was very dirty, feces on shower curtain, urine on toilet and floor. I called and asked to have it cleaned they said someone would do it. The bathroom did not get cleaned for the rest of the weekend. On Saturday I was very disappointed that we had no choices in the hotel or center to eat at for dinner other than Sneakers. Everything closed by 1 pm. You would think with a convention of 800 they would have made a point of having some restaurants stay open.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nurse72 Horrible Beds, great service.
I always stay at this hotel because of the medical rates as we do our medical needs in Duluth, but as of lately the rates have gone up and the beds are more uncomfortable than the less expensive hotels. Since they do not offer a continental breakfast I think there is no reason to stay here anymore. I am so diappointed because the staff at the front desk are always so nice and accomodating, the service is wonderful but since the reason to go is to rest and sleep and that now is impossible because of the horrible beds, i might as well stay somewhere else.
