Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by a really enjoyable stay. Would recommend to others Stayed at The Holiday Inn Edinburgh for my dads 80th birthday. We had a lovely stay and can not fault any aspect of the hotel. The reception staff and the restaurant staff were so helpful and friendly. For such a large hotel I was amazed by the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to go that extra mile to help, and make our stay so enjoyable. The hotel was full and the restaurant staff were very busy but they went out of the way to find us a table when I explained that my mam was a diabetic and had taken her insulin and needed to eat. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff and service Family of 4 visiting in October break and this hotel was almost perfect, only disappointment was on the food side! We got a good deal which included breakfast and dinner for adults and kids ate free. On arrival parking was good and staff were wonderful on check-in (gave me lots of information and answered all my questions). Room was nice and clean, lovely towels and bedding. We booked the pool and spa facilities from the room and when we went to the pool the staff were again great. Location is great for the Zoo and for travel to the City Centre so everything worked really well for us. The only let down for us was the food. The carvery was terrible! There was only one starter which was salad and a lot of it wasn't very fresh. The meat for the main course was dry and chewy and the veg very over-cooked (and we are honestly NOT fussy eaters). The restaurant staff were however excellent. We chose to eat in the bar the second night and the food was far superior and we were told the Sampans restaurant was also very good so my advice would be to avoid the carvery (and I would ask the hotel to look at this!). Breakfast on the first morning was lovely but on the second morning we arrived at 9.15am (breakfast served until 10am) and there was almost nothing hot left. No bread for toast (we had to ask for it) and no pastries at all. The only thing after a 10 min wait was sausage and mushrooms so this was really disappointing. We were going to Zoo so had to leave sharp so I guess there would have been more items put out but to me this just isn't good enough. We had hoped to get a good breakfast to set us up for a day out at the Zoo but within an hour we were hungry. All in all, we would come back but would hope the food improved. Closing comment, I couldn't fault the staff, the customer service in all areas was EXCELLENT! October 22, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by friendly and attentive staff On arrival we received a friendly and warm welcome. Our room was quickly allocated which we found to be clean and comfortable. The reception staff were very helpful in providing directions to various tourist attractions. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of food available. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay but unhappy with hotel holding my money I had enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The location was good, the hotel smart, room clean and comfortable and the staff friendly. The shower could have done with being updated but the overall room was good. What has greatly disappointed me about this hotel is that once returning home I have found that the hotel are incorrectly holding £100 of my money and did this without my knowledge. No one said they were going to hold money from my account and I am appalled that 5 days after it was incorrectly held it has still not been returned to my account! It has left me short on cash this month, and it has left a bitter taste towards this hotel after what had been a very nice stay. I am shocked that the money was held even though I never gave my card to anyone at the hotel and no one told me this amount was going to be held! I had paid for the room in full months ago and on check in had been asked if we would like to charge extras to the room or settle these is cash, we had opted to pay as we go with cash so I have no idea why this money has been held in the first place and why it has still not been released into my account!! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Frequent traveller This was the 3rd Holiday Inn I stayed in that week and this was by far the best. Room had great views over the Pentland Hills, staff were happy and helpful and the food was unusually good for a Hol Inn. Even the wifi seemed a reasonable speed for a change. Great location for tourists too and easy access to airport outside the hotel. I wish all the Holiday Inns were this good. October 17, 2014
