Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MrJinja Excellent Staff and Convenient Location
The staff that we interacted with at this hotel were fabulous, in particular (and I hope I still remember their names correctly) Rafel (Porter and Breakfast Waiter), Hamish (Breakfast Maitre D'# and Anna #Receptionist on our arrival#. They went out of their way to make the stay pleasant and comfortable and the policy of providing details on the public transport links was fantastically helpful. However, it was also the case that some staff the Ironing Board requested at reception on arrival didn't turn up despite a Porter departing to get it #Step in Rafel at 11pm to fetch us one#, the reception desk didn't answer the call down to them #assuming they must be busy, I walked down to see them from the 4th Floor and when I got there, it appeared that there were two staff behind sat at the desk behind reception and no guests being served# and there were no toiletries in the bathroom when we arrived #Step in again Rafel to fetch some after delivering the ironing board# .
The hotel had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, which could have been the "half-term" factor as there was a good mix of visitors from groups of overseas tourists to families to couples and groups of friends.
The room itself was a little disappointing compared to other Holiday Inns that I have stayed in, but is still good value for money. The bathroom looked tired and the toilet seat was loose, the king-size bed was two 4'6" beds hooked together with a duvet that was zipped up the middle (with the zip fastener at the sleeping end for some reason) - so somewhere between not sleeping in between the two mattresses and not catching yourself on a zip while sleeping, my wife and I ended up sleeping on one half of the bed as it was uncomfortable to sleep in the middle.
In terms of the food and drink, I found that the breakfast was excellent value with a good range of offerings from fruit and cereal through to "full english" and all tasted great with a great view out to the mountains from the breakfast room. The bar snacks felt a little over-priced for what they were, but not completely out of kilter with other hotels prices and being out of town, and your options are somewhat limited for other places to grab a quick bite to eat when you arrive at 9pm from your flight.
The location was exceptional - I appreciated the guidance on buses to and from the city centre and taking the bus actually meant I got to see more of the city than if I had stayed in the centre itself. It was remarkably easy and convenient to use the buses and importantly, the Air Link service stops outside the hotel (and is great value compared to a taxi).
I was on a trip combining business and a leisure break, and on both counts the links were reliable, great value and efficient (£3.50 for a "day ticket" for the buses).
Interestingly, the hotel didn't seem to notice or recognise the membership of Priority Club, as when checking in, I was given a form to enable me to join - this is a minor point in terms of my experience of the stay, but I wonder what the point of a Priority Club or any other loyalty scheme is if the establishment itself doesn't seem to notice (especially as I booked through the Priority Club !!
All in all, I would (and almost certainly will) stay here again and furthermore would recommend this as a place to stay for either business or pleasure: I found it to be excellent value for money. The extra effort and proactive engagement put in by a few of the staff made a real different and was really appreciated (and noting some of the other staff who came across as a little disengaged could follow their example).

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bramble04 Sunday night stay
typical corporate 'beige' hotel, but good value as got an excellent rate
requested a front facing room, and was allocated a nice view of the car park in a room that stank of smoke, a quick call to reception resolved this and was soon given a front facing double room with an extremely comfortable bed
the rooms are fine, modern, and the HD tv is a nice touch, the bathroom could do with some attention as the wash hand basin did not drain, and the grouting really needs some serious attention, however the room was comfortable enough, very quiet, and I did get a good sleep
I would stay again as it is easily accessible with free parking, but the rack rate is astonishing! I doubt if anyone pays that, but great if you get a decent offer

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Westviewpanda Great Hotel but with limitations for business
I really liked this hotel, the room was very nice, and the choice and quality of the food in the restaurant was excellent.
It's missing the 5th star beacause for some reason hoilday inn's in the UK charge a fortune for Internet access (they don't charge in the States).
Also once connected to the Internet my companies VNP was blocked, I need to log in every day to sync my computer, to upload and down load new work data, luckily my customer was able to provide me with a suitable Internet connection, but if you need to log into your companies VNP, you could be out of luck.

We arrived before book in time and our room was ready....great !
Huge king size bed, as requested and on the floor we also requested...thanks.
The room had everything we needed ...although in the evening we felt chilly for a while and couldn't locate heating controls.
Wasn't for long though. Nice and warm in the morning.
Attentive, chatty bar staff and sweeties for our 2 year old !
The pool was great, very relaxing.....

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Zooenthusiast Hotel excellent overall but disturbed sleep
Stayed in this hotel as we had been to te zoo next door. Got to say that it was vastly improved fromour last visit a few years ago! Bargain advanced DBB rate, hotel very accomodating as we nearly never made it due to bad weather (quite willing to swap the date on the day of check in). Hotel staff excellent, restaurant to a good standard. Then all spoiled by having drunk partygoers in the room opposite arguing at 4 in the morning!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Oxic Great place shame about taxi drivers
I had a great time at this hotel. The staff are very helpful and polite. I liked everything except the taxi company the hotel uses for its guests. The taxi drivers would not give change and fiddle with the taxi meters. That spoilt the impression of my stay at this hotel.
Food menu could do with a little bit more choice.

Arrived very late for a 2 night weekend visit after an 8 hour drive which included getting stranded in snow. Night staff very pleasant & welcoming, 24h room service very good.
Breakfast excellent, staff very polite and attentive. Kitchen and servery staff also very pleasant.
Would definately recommend! :-)

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by keithyd47 Pleasant staff - nice surroundings
Despite a mix-up with my personal details on the hotel's booking-in form, this was quickly sorted out by the very pleasant female receptionist. She recognised me as a Priority Club member and pointed out the offers available to me.
Room was very clean and, despite facing a very busy road, there was no discernable traffic noise!
Food in both restaurants was excellent with breakfast being extremely good value for money.
The (very close) proximity to the Zoo makes this hotel ideal for "seeing the Pandas." Buses to and from City Centre stop directly outside the hotel.
Did not on this occasion use the good leisure facilities but have done in the past.
All the staff that my wife and I encountered were pleasant, courteous and helpful.
Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here on our weekend break in Edinburgh and a visit to the Giant Panda's at the adjacent zoo. Staff gave a warm welcome and were extremely friendly and keen to help.
Breakfast buffet is excellent and the carvery dinner we had at night was good and VFM. Would definately use again and recommend to others.

We booked this hotel as it was close to the zoo. It was easy to find and reasonable quality for the price. We left our car at the hotel and walked to the zoo next door. There is also a bus stop outside where buses go direct to the city centre.
I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the zoo.
The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Les45 Disappointed
Good value "20.12" break! However, hotel is quite tired and ready for a refurbishment.
Very disappointed with staff attitude in bar in relation to a drinks promotion. On night one, I ordered two drinks and got them. Thought it was reasonably priced and noticed there was a promotion on gin and tonic. On night two, I ordered the same drinks and it cost £ 2.50 more. I queried the price and was told that if I wanted the drinks at promotional price, I had to ask specifically for them quoting "pub price". When I queried why I had not had to do this on my first night, bar staff became defensive and said the manager said they had not to tell people but make them quote the phrase. New rule out apparently!!
Money wasn't the issue, just the attitude!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DDODiver Zoo Visit
We booked this hotel based on its proximity to the Zoo to combine business and leisure. We were not disappointed. The hotel is encompassed by the Zoo grounds.
Accommodation was excellent, however, breakfast, which we pre-paid in the room price, was a bit of a "bun fight" and the layout of food and signage did not flow, eg, eggs could be made to order, however, the sign was placed after you had already taken your food! Toast was made at the other side of the dining room, again, not very convenient... I think you get the message.
That said, it was a minor glitch in what can only be described as a very relaxing stay, with the bonus of a Zoo view.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gibbo1 Great Hotel and fantastic service
We have stayed here several times over the last 6 years and still keep coming back, and the reason is that we can't fault the rooms, the food or the service that we have received each time we have stayed here.
The location for us is a real bonus as it is only a 5 minute car journey to Edinburgh City Centre and there is an excellent bus service that stops right outside the main entrance, and the hotel is situated right next door to the famous Edinburgh Zoo.
The rooms have always been spotless and well kitted out for the price.
The bar area could do with a bit of a face lift, however does have a huge projector screen which is fab for watching the sport on, and remember to use your priority card to get discount on all drinks .
The hotel has always appeared child friendly as on a couple of occassions I have taken our 2 small children (both under 5), and staff have made a real fuss over them.
Would strongly recommend that if possible book well in advance to get the best offers.

Wonderful start to the new year, lovely feeling as soon as you walk in the door, staff is friendly and knowledgable. Prefer room to the front of the building, as the view is so beautiful. Room is clean and adequate for a couple, bed linen fresh and crisp.
Breakfast is amazing, so much choice, hot and fresh. Restaurant manager is such a lovely man, made sure we had a good breakfast/experience..
Stayed at this hotel on many occasions and the one at Leith, and would recommend.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by threeboysmum Spacious, comfortable and fab service
This was our second stay this year at this hotel and we were as satisfied this time as the first. The room was more spacious than most we stay in which was great since this was a family visit with a party of 4.
The room was comfortable and had everything we needed.
The breakfast service was excellant and the food plentiful and enough selection to keep the fussiest eaters content. A bonus for me was that the tables were large enough to cope with our various courses and we weren't expected to 'stack' used plates, although they were cleared quickly.
We had dinner in the hotel one evening, the service was efficient and just the right 'speed'. We weren't rushed through our meal and equally did not have to wait ages for attention. The quality of the food was fine and the bar service very good.
The swimming pool area was clean and well attended. All of the staff we encountered on this visit were very polite and helpful and as a result we shall definitely return.
I can't leave such a glowing review without one negative, I thought the wifi charges a bit steep but not sufficient to put me off visiting again.
Many, many thanks

Recent stay was dissapointing. Had requested room not overlooking zoo, confirmed this at check in only to be given a room over looking zoo. Room changed after another visit to reception.
Bathroom was badly in need of refurbishment, Tiles crack, grout dirty and mouldy, water seeped from under bathroom tiles when you stepped on them. carpet in room and corridor old and stained.
Dinner included in our package of very average standard, Self service carvery, food luke warm, dried up poor choice. Staff not interested. Breakfast only average, only served one cup of stale coffee, general standard of budged hotels not 4star. Sadly will not be staying here again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Joanne265 New year family break
We had a family room which had a double, a single, a sofa bed and we asked for a travel cot for our 11 month old. Plenty of space. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice. Dinner was okay but it was the same every night, carvery. Drinks expensive. Next door to the zoo, great day out. Bus took 10 min into the city, lots to see and do there. The staff were very helpful when we needed information about the zoo or the festivities in the city over new year. They chatted to the children and involved them in conversation which was nice. Very welcoming and friendly. We asked to stay an extra night if they had the room. They kept us in the same room and matched a deal I found on the internet. Pool is great, clean.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by hitraveler Helpful staff, great breakfast, and a clean facility
I'm rarely disappointed when staying at a Holiday Inn, and this one was no different. Actually, I was shocked and delighted at how great the breakfast was. The staff, which I could imagine were overwhelmed as it was New Years when I stayed, was wonderful. They were able to answer all of my questions and were super friendly. My only dislike would be that internet was not free, which I never experienced as a platinum priority club member. It was a little bit out of the city center but it was very easy to hop a bus or taxi into the city center. That aside, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

I was a bit concerned when I booked this hotel for a New Year break with friends given the distance from the city centre, however, the public transport was fantastic!
The reception staff were very helpful (I asked a lot of questions - more about the city than the hotel!!).
Great breakfast - kept us going the whole day!
The room was nicer than I anticipated.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by RSA1 Great Stay - but attention to detail needed
We chose this Holiday Inn over the other options in Edinburgh because having stayed here several times before we were familiar with the location and my fiance really enjoyed our previous stay.
We had the same warm welcome when we arrived on Friday afternoon and the the hotel had maintained it's clean and high standards in reception.
Breakfast on the 2 / 5 mornings we ate in the hotel was excellent with plenty of choice.
The spa was good, though still too many undisiplined children running riot at 8pm for my liking.
The room was comfortable and would have been perfect were it not for the fact that some basic attention to detail appears to be missing and we had to make a number of requests down to reception to get these fixed.
Oddly neither, housekeeping, roomservice or reception ever answered the phone, so I had to make repeated trips in person to the reception desk.
The grumbles which really started to grate on the pleasure of our stay were:
1. The booking was for 2 persons, the confirmation confirmed 2 people. However, the room was set for 1; 1 set of towls, 1 set of toiletries, 1 bath robe, 1 bottle water, tea & coffee for 1.
This suggests that housekeeping either don't get told how many guests will be using the room, or just ignore the information. MGt - please note this ruins the warm welcome if one of the guests feels like that havent been included.
2. The safe didn't work because the batteries in the door were flat - obvious if it had been checked before we arrived since it stated SER on the display panel.
3. The light in the entranced flashed constantly, and had to be changed.
4. The light in the seating area did not work - but then it had no lamps in it!
Kind of suggests a lack of attention to detail and a "can't be bothered" approach to ensuring all the rooms are up to standard. Shame because having stayed in Holiday Inns all over the world this is not what we've come to expect.
5. Finally "flannelgate."
Both my fiance and I use flannels, and one of the nice touches of the ITC chain of hotel is that they provide flannels.
Unfortunately I could only use the flannels on 2 occassions because the cleaners kept removing them and not replacing them. Furthermore they kept taking the clean unused flannel away too!!
They removed the flannels on the 1st morning and despite asking the lady in person and then again at reception on 4 addtional occassions we didnt recieve a new set until Sunday evening.
Monday morning we had a repeat - both clean and used flannel were taken away and not replaced. At this point I gave up asking for them.....
A small point and you probably consider it petty but if you provide guests with flannels and guests observe your policy on towl changes why remove the flannels?
Clearly there's a training issue here not to mention a communication issue when I guest has to ask 5 times for something.
On the whole still a good place to stay and other than "flannelgate" and the missing lamps in the one light everything was corrected reasonably quickly. Shame that you let yourself down with things that a bit of care and pride could have rectified.
We will stay here again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bhatharis Bad experience, never coming back again.
Worst ever experience ever had in my entire tours so far!! The hotel claims that it is a 4* hotel and these are the facilities printed on its website as standard facilities:Published:
1. 4*rated room accommodation
2. Air conditioning
1. 10×12ft sized room with a very poor view of its own terrace (FOH claimed that this was the executive room)
2. Air conditioning is out of order and room service attendant says hotel is not going to repair it! Instead I was given a deskfan!!!
3. Minibar is no longer in service. Hence the FOH advised me to use the freezer as a storage if I have any items to be kept separately. No, the freezer doesn't work either (if you thought you would use it to cool your beer cans)!!
Couple more things to notice:1. You want a bathrobe, pay additional £20 per night to upgrade yourself to executive package (which would give you a pair of inhouse footwarmer and a bathrobe)!! And remember this is a 4*hotel..!!2. Any bathroom supplement (shampoo, shower gel, shower cap etc) will be supplied only upon a request placed by the guests, and limited to one each!3. A bathroom full of notices and stickers as to what you should and shouldn't do in the bathroom including a notice to tell you how you should take shower!!This was the worst and funniest hotel I have ever been to.. will never be coming back here again.

Whilst I fully appreciate the benefit ,of holding party nights,to the Hotel it would be rather good if you considered your none partying guests a little. My suggestion is that you place the non partyers in a quieter part of the hotel and not directly above the party room. Our nights sleep was affectedd by the noise. I made this point to a receptionist ,via the telephone,to be told don,t worry the noise stops around twelve!! Not a very reassuring response!!!!
