Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stop over on M6 With a swimming pool that closes late and opens early this is a great place to stop, its adjacent to the M6 but you would hardly know it, we arrived tired from London but had a swim to tire out the children. We then had a great nights sleep and a second swim the next morning, before a very well though out breakfast buffet. A great place to break the London/Scotland M6 journey if you have children. The main thing this hotel needs to do is to provide a decent free internet service like virtually every other hotel. The free internet provided to IHG members is very slow. October 21, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not impressed! I was staying on route to an interview and wanted a relaxing night so I would be fresh in the morning. I arrived late and was put into room 113 which is a disabled access room. The location of the room is next to an exit door to the car park. The door spring doesn't work and therefore you here every single person exit. I got to sleep around one in the morning due to smokers and was wide awake around five with people exiting to the car park. I was asked at reception if I had enjoyed my stay. I was exhausted! Then to add insult to injury the receptionist commented " oh you were in 113" I can honestly say it's was the worst stay ever I will not be back. To top my day off I don't think I was firing on all cylinders for my interview. Thanks for that holiday inn Haydock as a gold ihg reward card holder I think that you really let me down. If you do stay ensure you are nowhere near this room. October 20, 2014

Having loved our stay last week, we were even more impressed that the receptionist checking us in on this visit (the same one who performed this task last Monday) not only recognised us but also remembered the homeward routing we had been planning to take after last week's stay and asked how we had enjoyed it. That alone would have earned an extra star if the ratings had allowed! On this stay we were able to use the evening dining service and found the food quality well up to high standards expected in HI facilities and the staff on duty just as cheery, friendly and helpful as the reception staff had been. The location, just off the M6, is very easy to find from the directions provided on the hotel's site and the biggest plus for us is that despite its proximity to the busy motorway the sound insulation in the rooms is superb and there is no disturbance whatsoever from passing traffic. We look forward to further stays at this location when again visiting relatives in the area.. October 19, 2014

A nice friendly greeting at the end of a long day always make for a good start, Having stayed with this hotel previously we knew its quiet location just off the M6 would provide no sound interuptions from the traffic because of the excellent soundproofing in the rooms. The room comfort levels were well up to the standards of Hol Inn and the morning breakfast buffet set us up for our homeward journey in the morning. Will be staying again next Monday so looking forward to another visit. October 16, 2014

The were very conscientious with our gluten free food needs. From our travel experience in the UK, the Holiday Inns have some of the friendliest and most customer service focused staff anywhere. The hotel was perfect for the break from traveling and 'couple of relaxing days' we had planned. Very positive experience and enjoyable stay. October 13, 2014

Internet instructions given at desk when check in, not clear, and staff do not understand, so this needs sorting, only issue. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location Based on our needs the location was ideal. We were visiting for the Rugby League in Wigan on the Friday and the racing at Haydock on the Saturday. We had a very nice stay, the rooms were more than comfortable and the breakfast was very nice. The omelette was to die for. All in all, it was very nice. September 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A little out-of-the-way, but definitely recommended This hotel was a little out-of-my-way for my intended destination of Warrington, but it's worth the extra mileage. The hotel is comfortable, with a good leisure offering of gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and pool, the rooms are comfortable - I was even given a free upgrade to an executive room - the food is good and the staff friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, I was taken really quite ill during my last stay here, but the staff helped me cope and were very supportive and friendly and helped me get through it, especially Matt the Duty Manager. It's nice little touches like this that really make a difference when you're staying away from home. September 20, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Communal areas On both nights of our stay the hotel was busy with weddings. The weather was raining. There were an awful lot of smokers. You have put signs up at the main entrance requesting guests do not smoke there, however there is no shelter provided anywhere else for those who do smoke. Perhaps a covered area in a designated space may be helpful? There were also an awful lot of wedding guests sitting in the bar area which made it difficult for regular guests to find anywhere to sit. I appreciate this is the nature of weddings, but maybe more segregation would be helpful? Overall staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay. September 5, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good overall accommodation We stayed for 3 nights at the hotel in a family room which was a bit cramped for the 4 of us but not a big problem. The main bed was comfortable and the children's beds not too bad. There were shutters provided in the room rather than curtains which were excellent for keeping the light out and allowing us a good nights sleep. The pool facilities were excellent and staff always helpful. The only minor issues we had were with the internet in the room not working which was eventually solved, extra pillows for the room taking a while to arrive and the pancake machine at breakfast not working. Overall though these were minor issues and didn't stop us from enjoying our stay. August 27, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not quite as good, in some ways There were a few drawbacks in the room that make the standard of this hotel different than most other Holiday Inns we've stayed at.. Yes, the Reception staff are friendly and welcoming, the restaurant staff are efficient, friendly and funny, and the young male porter went way out of his way to get the items we requested and always in a very pleasant manner. However, a good hotel stay is more than just the staff. We have stayed at this hotel a few times now and return because of the location and the usual reasonable prices. On our first visit, they told us they only have 12 Executive rooms, so you are lucky indeed to be upgraded to an Executive room, even if you are Platinum Elite. Ok, fair enough. So next visit we paid the extra for an Executive room, but found the room itself was lacking in many of the Executive amenities of other Holiday Inns. There were supplies for only one person, even though we had reserved in advance and it was known there would be 2 people in the room. The bathroom had no handsoap.. we had to call down for some. Other supplies in the bathroom: shampoo and shower gel and nothing else. Plastic cups instead of glass, and no facecloth. A sign said we could request a facecloth, and did so, only to be told (on 2 different visits) that the hotel has discontinued them. The Housekeeping Manager said this is not the case and got us one. Therefore, better communication between the 2 departments would be helpful. Not enough teabags nor milk on the tea tray, no hot chocolate as is usual in Executive rooms, but we were told we "could request some". As a 'heads up' to future guests, the toilets are very low to the floor (unlike other H.I.s) These issues may seem trivial, but as we are guests who are away on business more than we are at home, it would make a more enjoyable stay if this hotel was more consistent with the H.I. brand. Aside from the above, the hotel itself is very nice and we were appreciative of the staff. August 22, 2014
