Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable 2 night Stay Had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Booked 2 night stop-over in family room for me, wife and grandson. My wife has slight walking difficulties and although the room was comfortable, the big down side was the room was about about as far as possible from main facilities, with no alternative room available. We had returned having stayed there a few times over the last few years and once again we were not disappoint with the hotel or staff - who were all friendly and polite. Despite the room location, I will not hesitate to book again in the future and request room closer to main facilities. November 6, 2014

The hotel is just 10 minutes drive from the campus, but also very close to the motorways. The service was great, the room was clean and very comfortable and we found it good value for money. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Service The Holiday Inn Reading South is not blessed with natural advantages of beautiful location for a weekend away (though it is well placed for a business trip to the Reading area) but what marks it out as a wonderful venue to stay is it's very, very high standards of service by all of it's staff - bar none! I have stayed at many four and a few five star hotels but I have never come across service to the same level - a genuine desire by every member of staff you come across (from kitchen staff as well as front of house and restaurant staff) to do their best to enhance your stay by finding ways to make you feel valued. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent staff but the bathrooms are a bit tired - as were we. The staff were excellent - very professional and friendly. However, the rooms were very hot even with the windows open. The aircon was switched off for the winter, but the rooms are obviously well insulated and get very stuffy which made sleep a bit difficult. Also the shower in one room had very poor pressure and one in another room dripped all night keeping my daughter awake much of the night, even with the bathroom door closed. The beds are comfy as always and communal areas clean and welcoming. We've stayed in many Holiday Inns/Expresses and whilst this was not the best, we would still recommend it. October 26, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too old and outdated This hotel would be OK for 60 pounds per night, but certainly not for the amount they charge. It's way too old and outdated. Internet is very slow at peak hours. TV is old and the functionality is limited by a stupid non-standard remote control. Breakfast is good and cheap. Bed an pillow are good too. October 21, 2014

Our room was spotlessly clean & very comfortable. We enjoyed the use of the leisure facilities. The food was superb & all of the staff could not have been more helpful or obliging & you get the impression that they all genuinely take pride in their hotel & nothing is ever too much trouble. We were dissappointed to note that the Callaghans bar is no longer open at weekends. Drinks are available at the hotel bar within the lounge area but lacking the privacy and atmosphere of Callaghans. Also we found that the buffet option in the restaurant was no longer offered unless you were part of a coach tour. On a positive note the hotel is family friendly with very attentive staff. The restaurant food is good and the rooms are all comfortable. Free internet access to IHG members is good although I had to use the helpline to secure access. The service was good and had me on line within a few minutes. October 9, 2014

The staff have a friendly yet professional approach. Check-in and out were both swift and efficient. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely staff As soon as you walk in to this hotel you feel welcome. The receptionists are friendly and accommodating, they promptly dealt with our booking. The room was clean and comfortable. We had a good nights sleep. There are towels at the swimming pool and we enjoyed the Jacuzzi as well as the pool. The food was very tasty and a good choice on the menu. The staff were very friendly and accommodating throughout our meal. Over all we all enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A Dated Noisy Hotel - Won't be staying in a hurry This hotel is somewhat dated and noisy to the extent that the room I had constantly vibrated during the night as doors further down the corridor were closed. The bathroom was tiny and badly maintained. The front desk staff were miserable/disinterested/rude. I don't normally complain even if my stay wasn't great. When checking out, if the front desk staff enthusiastically ask "how was your stay" I would politely respond with "fine thanks". When checking out of this hotel the front-desk staff didn't ask. The only positive feedback was that the restaurant staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Overall there are other ihg hotels nearer the city centre to stay at and would not be visiting this one in any kind of hurry. September 24, 2014
