Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by TB27 Not a good idea!
Rooms were nice, but that was about it. Staff was nice overall. Over priced for what is currently available. Renovations made just about everything a nightmare to deal with.
Getting to the elevators and figuring out which ones to take to check in was to say the least, confusing. I was the bell hop for several people checking in, because they couldn't figure out how to get to the elevators or had trouble pushing their carts around the tight corners to get there, especially the elderly group from Arkansas. Only one elevator went to river level and it was a guess to whether you got it out of the 4 possibilities.
Construction made meetings in the banquet rooms noisy. No wash rags or shower rug left on fourth night.
Ice machines worked if you were willing to go up 2 floors.
There were other issues, but you get the idea.
Would not recommend this place for the current price, and I would have stayed somewhere else if I had only known.

The location is great. We were a short walk to everything in downtown. The new rooms are very nice. I would wait until the construction is totally finished since the lobby and restaurant areas were totally closed.

Was not notified of the construction that was going on in the hotel. I recommended this to some of our best friends and we reimbersed them out of our own pocket for this disaster The picture on the internet was an example of complete false advertising.

First of all the hotel was under rentovations and it was a complete mess. We left our home for a weekend AWAY from remodeling and walked right back into it. WE WERE NOT PREWARNED.
It was noisy banging way to early in the mornings. NONE of the ice makers worked, when we ask a maid to help us she would not. We were put in a room that ajoined another and it was so loud I thought those people were in our room. We ask for a comment card and of course, you gessed it. They don't have any.
NEVER AGAIN

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by steph06 WARNING and under construction
We decided to valet park ($28/day). The valets were not nice at all. You would think that for $28/day they could manage manners. They didn't tell us that the hotel is under construction and you can't even access the river through the hotel. You have to walk through the dust and cigarette smoke to the street and then walk through a sketchy part of street to the river. The elevators are in major need of repairs. They didn't work properly. We were stuck on one for 10 minutes. It would go up, when it was supposed to go down, and stop on floors that weren't even requested. Once we got to our room, the AC was broken. We tried calling the front desk but the phone didn't work. My husband had to brave the elevator to go to the lobby. They sent someone but he only took a part off and said that would have to do, because the electrician had left for the day. The AC never worked properly. The bed was horrible. It was so hard, that concrete would have been softer. We ended up using the pullout bed on the second night. The biggest thing is that we had to walk through the construction every time we wanted to go somewhere. I have asthma and the dust and cigarette smoke made me instantly wheeze. There should be a warning, so that those with health problems aren't made sick because the hotel wants to make a buck. On the up side, the staff was nice at the restaurant.

The lock on our room door was defective. The repair man repaired it after 3 attempts. The next day the maid did not close the door properly and again the room was not locked. The repair man stated that our room was not the first room to have this issue since the rooms had been updated, thus the maid should know how to properly close a door and all doors should have been examined prior to renting them out.

Yes, the place was under construction and inconvenient to get in and out. But the staff was very pleasant, the new room clean and comfortable. I would have liked a small refrig. Close to everything downtown; so easy to walk to everything. Rate was adjusted for conference and I was very pleased. I would stay here again.

I travel and stay with holiday inn all across the country. I used my reward points that I saved up over a year to go on a little getaway with my girlfriend. When I arrived at the hotel all i saw was construction everywhere.. the guest checkin was located on the 7th floor temporarily, because the entire entrance and lower floors of the hotel were under massive recontruction. I was not informed of this renovation as i had been in the past.. very disapointed .. heard construction most of the day and even had to let plumbers in my room to change out a faucet.. that was new and in perfect working condition.. I picked this hotel because of the resturaunt on the riverwalk..which wasnt even there when i arrived... It was on the 7th floor were the temporary lobby was where everyone is walking through the garage!! terrible stay!!

Other than the construction going on at the bottom level (even on sunday and Monday which was Presidents Holiday) it's a very nice establishment. The Hotel was located conveniently in the downtown area close to everything.
Rooms were spacious and beds were quite comfortable.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
The only complaint was that the breakfast buffet was a little pricey.
All in all, I would visit this hotel again, maybe during the holdays at some point. Love the riverwalk.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Carcas Great Room but terrible entrance
Everyone we met was very nice and helpful. The problem was due to construction. Entrance into the Hotel was all construction enclosed. Our luggage had to 'bump' up steps to get to the elevator. Our car was parked on the 6th floor and had to use the steps to get to the 7th floor to enter the hotel - no elevator.
I am sure it is going to be outstanding when the construction is done - it is just too bad we were there before it was.
Great rooms!!!

I have stayed at this Holiday Inn 3 other times, and have recommended it to friends and family. However, this time I was not prepared for what was encountered. First of all, the rate was increased by $40 per night because it was during a main event. I thought that was ridiculous, but went ahead and paid for it because I knew the hotel was safe and clean. Upon arrival, the hotel was under major rennovations. Check in was done in a banquest room, with plywood covering most of the walkways. It gave me an "unsafe" feel about the location. Then, we had guests next door that partied all night, and were extremely loud. When we complained, they quieted for a few hours, but were back again partying and we could not rest. This was a lot of money to pay for such an uncomfortable experience. I was very disappointed.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 1RodeoGirl Terrible! Harassed all night!
It was a bad time for me to use this hotel as they were remodeling, which I didn't know. They could not accommodate my Silverado 3500, stating it was too large. It was recommended that I park a block or to away from the hotel. It was dark and I told them I was afraid for my safety by parking so far from the hotel. However, the gentleman at the Valet said I could leave it there until called his boss. Called his boss and left a message (cell Ph).
The lady @ the front desk called about my truck. Told her what I was instructed to do. Asked her to connect me with the hotel mgr. Mgr. was not in. Left a mess for mgr. Then later the Valet guy called for me to move my truck! Told him I was still waiting on call from the Parking Mgr. neither the hotel or parking mgr. returned my call that night. Then I went to bed.
Sleeping soundly, I was awaken at 11:10 p.m. asking me to move my truck! Livid, I called the national office and complained. The next day I had to pay the usual $26 valet fee & was harassed all night! Hated it! I was glad to check out of there & never to return!! Don't go there!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Chippyfree maybe good after renovations
Simple:Poorly run property
-No notice that the Hotel was under renovations
-Check in was less than pleasant
-Room was renovated-Room smelled strong of Paint. Had to open the window to breath normally
-Room service was slow (estimated 30 minutes and it took over 1 hour for chicken fingers, Thick cut chips and a soda) not a tough order. Chips were cold and oily, Chicken was warm on the outside and cold on the inside and the soda ordered was not on the tray. When brought to the room service attendant, she suggested I go to the soda machine. I showed her that it was on the bill and she reluctantly agreed to to get it for me. An hour later and a phone call to Room service again, she finely showed up. Not what I had expected. Overall, my stay was Horrible!

Close to the Riverwalk. Still doing renavations but that was ok. Got an excellent price for our room. Untill you start adding all the taxes on. Could hear some noise in the room next too us but didn't keep us from sleeping. Once this hotels is done March 2013 it will be beautiful.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by carytraveller WARNING - CONSTRUCTION SITE!
Do not stay here until the construction is over, and as of 2/8/13 it is not even close to complete. This hotel is an absolute disaster right now. It is loud and you have to follow a poorly marked unfinished drywall maze to get to the elevators and ultimately to the temporary front desk on the 7th floor. Front desk staff was surly, but in the past they were better so I am chalking that up to them being under stress from the construction. The room renovation was complete, but it was very loud. Elevators do not seem to be part of the renovation and they are old, slow and smell musty.
I will try this hotel again in March when they promise construction will be complete. If they were not accurate, the next review will be worse! It would have been better to shut down totally during the renovation.

We love staying at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk....love the location.... But this time was a little frustrating. With so much
Renovation going on, if you parked yourself you the had to walk up one or two flights of stairs with luggage (and stuff). My suggestion would be that they offer valet parking to ALL at the self parking rates. Our newly renovated room was beautiful..... Love the floors.. The bathroom..etc..etc..etc. was .just an effort to get in and out of the hotel..... Can't wait to come back after renovation is complete. Just please don't raise the prices to a point that we are not able to stay there :)

The hotel is in the final stages of an extreme makdover (supposed to be complete sometime in February 2013), but it should be very nice once finished.
We had a King Suite on the 23rd floor kind of overlooking the Riverwalk (you have to kind of lean out to see it). My wife really liked the bathroom mirror and wants me to find one for our bathroom at home. Both rooms are very large and comfortable.
One suggestion: put a phone in both rooms.

Overall expirence was marred by the construction going on. No garage elevator, having to use the service elevator to access the River Walk took up to a 10 minute wait on most trips. The hotel did not mention the construction when making the reservations. Would not recommend staying here until construction is complete.

I would like to tell you I am most pleased with my stay at the HI here in San Antonio. The room was excellent, comfortable and very clean. But the best was the service by the hotel staff, from the Kitchen staff to the cleaning staff. The best came when we wanted to depart. My battary in my car was deader then a doornail. The parking attendant (Jarred) was extremely helpful, and was able to get started in a matter of minutes. HE was very helpful and was able to get us the help we needed within minutes. This may not seem like much, but we were checked out and ready to depart to our next destination. HE went far above his regular duties of parking a car and made our departure timely. Thank you Jared (I hope that the right name). HE was polite and very helpful. HE made out trip complete and San Antonio a pleasant place to visit. Great information and directions all with a smile and professionalism to boot. Location of our hotel was ideal for getting around to the sights, close to the Alamo, shops, bars, resturaunts and Riverside aea. I'll be back to the same place again in the future!

This location is under construction. The posted signs indicate this will continue throughout 2013. The construction starts at 8 am and continues all day. The restaurant is closed exept for the limited morning breakfast buffet. The lounge has been relocated to a banquet area.
The location is good. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. overall only an acceptable experience.

This hotel was under major remodeling construction while we were there. Unfortunately, that was not communicated to us when we made the reservation so we had no idea how intrusive the construction would be to us enjoying our stay. On top of that, we were given a room that had been recently remodeled, and our toilet overflowed while we were out leaving large puddles of water in the bathroom. When we returned we called the front desk to tell them about it and they said they would send someone right up. I guess that "someone" didn't get the memo since no one ever showed up. I went down to the desk to tell them about it and they said we could move to another room which we did. I thought that for our troubles we would be comped at least one night but no, we were charged the full amount for our stay.

Yes, there was lots of construction, but the noise helped me get up and get to the conference I was attending. The new rooms are very nice and modern and I really enjoyed my room, especially the nice bathroom with good lighting. Yes, there is space between the door and the floor, so I shoved a towel in the crack every night. The staff were very nice. The hotel is is a convenient walk to most of the restaurants and sites located downtown. My biggest complaint was the drunk high school & college kids there for a couple of formals and that was not the hotel's fault.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GGR2 Jumping the gun
Room: I had the pleasure of staying in one of the renovated rooms. The rooms are well appointed, have a spacious feel, and everything is new... almost too new. When I checked into the room, it still smelled of paint and other construction fumes. I really had no issues with the odor since I am used to them, however others may have become nauseous or light headed. I mentioned the smell to the staff at checkout. The clerk mentioned they were excited to get people into the new rooms as soon as they are ready, but sometimes it is just jumping the gun. I recommended airing the rooms out or at least running an ionizer for a day before putting guests into them. The clerk wrote down the recommendations to pass on to management.
Service: The Front Desk Clerks are well trained, friendly, and very knowledgable of the River Walk area. Specifically, Natalie, the clerk that checked me, went above and beyond to make my stay a pleasant one. When asked, she made several great recommendations for restaurants in the area.
Construction: At check-in I was warned of the construction and its hours. Since I was not in the room during those hours, I cannot speak to noise levels. However, in the morning as the crews were coming in, it was really busy on the street. Beyond that, the walkway from street level to the Elevators was a little inconvenient, but it is there for safety. It is well lit, but I can see how some people might not feel safe in the corridor as it is narrow, has many turns, and you can't see down the entire path.
Overall it was a good stay. The location is awesome within walking distance to the River Walk and many of the area's attractions. I look forward to staying there again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by StillCoughing This hotel is doing MAJOR Renovation
They failed to mention this when we booked a couple of months ago. We get there to find plaster dust, overwhelming paint fumes, noise 24/7 and many other inconveniences. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow because it aggravated my asthma and I haven't quit coughing. I wrote corporate HQ and we were given a small, insignificant refund.
I highly recommend finding out when renovations will be complete before booking this hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by gerry2 Beautiful renovated rooms
The hotel is under renovation, so this is not the best time to visit but it is not a major problem, except for reception on the 7th floor, and lack of nice facilities like restaurant on the riverwalk etc.
But overall we had a nice stay and renovated rooms that we got on the 18th floor are absolutely gorgeous and very comfortable
However the hotel could improve the signage while under renovation because it is very easy to get lost between the different lifts going to different levels.
Even trying to go outside by the riverwalk door is quite a challenge the first time, because there is no signage.
But this is a minor problem and we are happy with the hotel still
