Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This hotel is doing MAJOR Renovation They failed to mention this when we booked a couple of months ago. We get there to find plaster dust, overwhelming paint fumes, noise 24/7 and many other inconveniences. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow because it aggravated my asthma and I haven't quit coughing. I wrote corporate HQ and we were given a small, insignificant refund. I highly recommend finding out when renovations will be complete before booking this hotel. January 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful renovated rooms The hotel is under renovation, so this is not the best time to visit but it is not a major problem, except for reception on the 7th floor, and lack of nice facilities like restaurant on the riverwalk etc. But overall we had a nice stay and renovated rooms that we got on the 18th floor are absolutely gorgeous and very comfortable However the hotel could improve the signage while under renovation because it is very easy to get lost between the different lifts going to different levels. Even trying to go outside by the riverwalk door is quite a challenge the first time, because there is no signage. But this is a minor problem and we are happy with the hotel still January 26, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room and good service Only problem, minor one, limited food service due to extensive remodeling project under way during my stay. Lots of other fine dining within a short distance on the river walkway. Good place for a meeting. January 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Remobled rooms were the best The room 2317 was fantastic, your remodle really was worth it. January 24, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Long check in time Upon arriving after a long travel time i went to check in, the young lady told me their system was down and it would be approximately 15 minutes. I waited in a very uncomfortable chair for 1 1/2 hours! Finally a member of management showed up and I was given a room with the system still down. Bottom line is the young lady at check was new, inexperinced and untrained. My question to the member of management was "why wait 1 1/2 hours? " In return for the wait I was comped a free breakfast (value $10) I quess they felt my time was was worth less than $10 per hour! January 22, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Construction!!! We was not notified about construction until checking in.The first room we was placed in was not very clean and was extreamly noisy between the hours of 8a.m.-6p.m. We was told construction would be from 9am-5pm and it most certinaly started at 8am. Had the ask the front desk to be moved after attempting to take a mid day nap and being woke up by the sound of a jack hammer. The new room was not as noisy during the day but was still woke up each morning before 8am when construction started. The new room was extreamly nice and I would like to know why a Priotity Club Member that booked a month early and paid in advanced was place in the old, outdated, noisy and just awful room over the nice new room? The list of problems I had extends far beyond this here. No problem with the staff they did the best they could with what they was given. January 15, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Construction and unorganized I have stayed at this property before and had a great time. My husband and I planned a trip with another couple to San Antonio and thought this would be a great place to stay. I wish we would have been told that the property was under construction. Nothing was marked so it was very difficult to figure out how to get to the Riverwalk. We were told construction would not start until 9:00 a.m. but it started at 6:00 a.m. Alarms continued to go off throughout the day which got to be very annoying. I would recommend another hotel while this one is under construction. Like I said, I had stayed here in the past and I will return but it was not a relaxing vacation with the construction going on. January 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Hotel however I was disappointed that it was under renovation Good service and good hotel , but it was very disappointing that the hotel did not give a heads up to indicate that they were under renovation and that because of it the balcony was cancelled and they were some works around; January 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Christmas on the River We liked our stay for our first Christmas vacation. The staff was friendly from the time we arrived to the time we left. They were having construction but it did not bother us because they were doing it from 10 am -5pm. We were not in our room at that time. We did have a problem with the AC not cooling. They were prompt in fixing the problem. Overall the hotel was AWESOME. Right on the river walk within walking distance to all attractions and they have self parking for $10 per day!! CAN'T WAIT TILL THE CONSTRUCTION IS FINISHED TO SEE THE NEW LOOK!!! We did take a peek at the top floors one night and they are gorgeous from what we could tell!!!! We plan on going back again this Christmas!! January 11, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by UNDER CONSTRUCTION There is a reason they don't ask how was your stay when you check out. January 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loved It... We made reservations knowing the property was going through renovations. We expected to go through some detours in the hotel. We had also read some of the other reviews, but have never been disappointed with any Holiday Inn property. If anything was truly unbearable, we were prepared to change to another Holiday Inn property in the vicinity. We were not disappointed. We stayed in a renovated room, which we loved. Great view of the city! The best part was being able to walk out directly on to Riverwalk !! It was through a temporary entrance in the lower level, but Riverwalk is amazing. There are so many great restaurants around we did not need to eat at the hotel, although we did have breakfast there for two days, excellent made to order omlettes. We always bring back leftovers to room, so not having room service is 'no big deal'. Just follow the signs and directions from staff to navigate the detours. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. We would have stayed more than 3 days if our schedule permitted. I will definitely return to this property. January 7, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Looks pretty but too noisy Currently under construction until Feb 2013 and it's too noisy. They should at least say it on their website or give a discount. Contruction noise from 9am-6pm. Room renovation is pretty modern, looks clean, updated..really pretty..BUT you can hear EVERYTHING from your neighbor (at least for us we had a door conecting the rooms). January 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hospitality was awsome and very friendly Had Been Staying at another hotel during New Years Eve and have decided to stay at Holiday Inn from here on out due to the warm and friendly reception to all the guest. January 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by VERY FRIENDY UNDER CONSTRUCTION, BUT VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. COULDNT USE BALCONY TO SEE THE SITES, BUT OVERALL GOOD. January 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by cold and loud We come to this hotel a lot, at least twice a year. Your new up-do is cold and not in character with the river walk. I hate the wood floors, they are cold and we could hear the people above us walking. Also, we could hear everything the next door people were saying and they also had a screaming baby. We did not mind the work you were doing, that was not the problem, the problem was the work you have done does not meet our comfort zone for a hotel. We will be looking for a new hotel in the future. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by housekeeping bad, construction not happy with the construction, housekeeping, restocling coffee supplies or limited food. January 4, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Construction? At Night??? Really??? Renovation on the floor directly above.... all night long? I understand that construction has to take place (I'm in the construction business), but to be making noise all night long, while people are tired and trying to get rest, is, in a word, stealing. Because I paid for a room for a place to rest, and that was nearly impossible. It was actually my daughter and son that stayed at your location, but they were "Not happy at all." January 4, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by under renovations the room itself was great, but the inconvenience due to renovations was not. heard construction type noises even in the middle of the night. They couldn't find my reservation in their system, nor my priority rewards membership. January 3, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by michele The hotel was under construction and looked dingy in spots. The room was adequate, but we were woken up by very loud drilling and banging. This went on all day. When I complained to the front desk, she told me she was sorry but there was nothing else available.Resting in this room was IMPOSSIBLE! I was not compensated in any way. Very disappointing. January 3, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Loud Rooms The new rooms are beautiful. However, there is nothing in the room to obsorb sound. I could hear every word that was said in the room next door, what was playing on their television and even when they were in the bathroom. It made us very uneasy to even talk. The doors, both leading to the halway and to the adjoining room, had a large gap between it and the floor. As I said, the room decor was very nice but we had no privacy. January 3, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't stay while hotel is under renovation We had no idea thsi hotel was under renovation. We would not have stayed here if we had known. While we definitely understand that all properties need to undergo renovations, we were unable to relax in the lobby or get a good night's sleep because the paint fumes were so bad. Was not able to enjoy any of the amenties this hotel usually provides. January 3, 2013
Había muchas areas cerradas, no quedo mucho hotel. January 3, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Visiting San Antonio This was my second visit to this hotel. My first visit was prior to the start of the renovation, so I tried to cut them some slack, knowing it is typically a great place to stay. I agree with the other reviews...the construction aspect is no fun! And I personally was not told about the construction beforehand. The front desk staff were friendly and professional while listening to everyone's complaints about the noise, entrance, and other aspects of construction! Kudos to them for staying calm and doing their best with what they had to deal with. The breakfast was okay.I will return when it is completed! January 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great room, but construction annoying hotel under construction so noise was annoying. Once construction is done will be glad to stay again. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Renovation is TERRIFIC! Just spent the night here (have been here before) and the renovation they are doing is wonderful. Rooms are larger, bright, modern, well decorated and comfortable. Location of this hotel is right on the RiverWalk and it is easy to get to all the sights. Front desk staff were kind and gracious. Breakfast Buffet was really good - they will have an a la carte menu when the renovation is over - but the buffet was delicious and we all enjoyed the food. So happy with this hotel! January 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great location - the renovation sorely needed In general I've always felt Holiday Inns are terrible compared to Holiday Inn Express (where I normally stay for business travel). EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Holiday Inns I've stayed at in my entire life are run down dumps. I have no idea how they keep these in business. Against my better judgement I stayed here since I wanted to a) keep acumulating points and b) be ON the river walk. I did not know construction was going on when I booked this hotel. Unfortunately, the staff is having to deal with it the best they can, but it's no fun for those of us staying there. PROS: 1) Location 2) Staff did the best they could to help CONS: 1) Run down hotel 2) Some parts of the room were dirty (sink, etc.) 3) Access to the River Walk is not obvious, only ONE elevator takes you to the access and access to this elevator is simply random chance on which one come when you push the button. You have to walk through some type of dungeon tunnel to get to the River Walk .... which is the only reason on earth why you would stay at this place. My Advice to this hotel: get constuction done ASAP, make access to the River Walk intuitive, uncomplicated and visibly attractive, and at the very least concentrate on making the rooms clean. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Was not aware of Renovation We were very surprised when we arrived at your hotel. We were not informed that there was a renovation in progress. I wasn't concerned until we got up to our room and found that the balcony was not available for use. When talking with your employees at the check in desk, we were told that all guests were notified of the construction, we were NOT! We were very disappointed that we requested a balcony on the River Walk and was not able to use the balcony. The toilet lid in our room was broken. We called the desk to let me know. I was quite surprised that if someone cleaned the room should have contacted maintenance. We were also told that there was a continental breakfast and that was not the case. Your staff is very courteous and friendly. The pool area was very nice, we thorougly enjoyed it each day. We loved the location of your hotel. December 16, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Run down hotel If i hadn't been forced to stay at this hotel as part of the group travel, I certainly would never have stayed at this hotel. It's not even to the same quality as a HI Express property. December 15, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible Hotel I have been a priority club membor for over 20 years and this is the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. I made the reservation 2 months in advance for a room with balcony but when I arrived was told that the rooms were under renovation. I got to my room and could hear hammering, sawing and drilling in my room along with repeated alarms telling us to evacuate the hotel followed by messages to disregard. Relaxing was impossible. That night we went to the resturant and it was close. Signage to avoid the construction was awful. Of the 4 people I saw during check out none had anything good to say. December 14, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by VERY DISSAPOINTED We pay full price for a Hotel that was under construction, and we didn't know it was a mess until after we paid for the room. We were not able to go to the balcony as it was sealed due to the construction, which is a big deal since its right next to the riverwalk and thats why we chose this location. The fire alarm kept going off several times during the day, only to be false alarms. The hall ways were super hot, and my biggest problem was that we were awaken at 8:00 am with a loud noise of hammering and construction work with no way to go back to sleep. There was no direct entrance to the Riverwalk, we had to go all the way around just to go to dinner, and to top it off the receptionist was a girl with no multitasking skills, alot of attitude and no costumer service. This was the first time Holiday Inn dissappointed us, and we are not sure if we are going to give it another chance, we felt like we wasted our money. December 14, 2012
