Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy all night End room 127 was noisy all night because the hall way exit door was slamming all night closer was broke and the weather stripping was missing. We have reported this to the front desk and don't stay in this room without asking if this has been fixed. We stay here because they take pets. October 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel in the Black Hills. We stayed at this hotel while on vacation in The Black Hiils. Wonderful. Very nice little town, hotel is close to Deadwood and other attractions. Loved views along Spearfish Canyon, which comes right into town. Our room had direct access to the parking lot which was very convenient. Rooms on the other side seem to have access to the pool area, so you can choose what's more important. Lucky 13 restaurant has good food and great bar. I would recommend eating right there instead of looking for other food choices. We had dinner at Italian restaurant in town and were disappointed in value for the money. This Holiday Inn would be a great choice on the way to Wyoming or while exploring Black Hills region. Pool and hot tub were perfect temperature and very clean. Restaurant was very good & kids eat free. Lots to do in the Spearfish area & the Black Hills. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy and showing its age Our room overlooked the central courtyard, which we suspect was originally open but has now been roofed over to make this a "convention centre". Thus we were continually disturbed by noise from the swimming pool and games machines below. Only booked here because rooms not available in Deadwood - wouldn't go again. September 12, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Needs Updating While the staff was friendly and accomodating to our room request, the hotel is in need of updating. We had access to our room via an outside door as well as a hallway, both doors stuck when closing and was not confident in room security. Room was clean, but, very outdated and in need of serious updating for a convention center. Sink was extremely low and no room to make coffee with the coffee maker. Bathroom was small. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay any place Else ! I have never had such a terrible experience at such an old, poorly maintained property in my (60 y/o) life. The wall paper is peeling off the walls. The carpeting needs replacement. The washers/dryers do not work properly, leaving you with wet clothes and no place to dry them. The card readers on the entry doors only work after you have run your card through 5-10 times (if at all). Housekeeping who let us in many times when the card didn't work, said that those doors have been that way for a long time. Your room key card is cancelled randomly causing you to have to go back to the check in desk and have them rekey them (several times#. The air conditioner didn't work and when maintenance did show up and removed the cover it was so filthy that the thought of sleeping next to it was disgusting. The dresser had to be pulled out to get to a plug for the vacuum to clean out the A/C, it was just as filthy as the A/C. Oh, and maintenance didn't clean out behind the dresser, he said that was the job of housekeeping. The TV worked intermittently. Did I mention that the sink attached to the countertop fell out on our last day there? And when I went to the front desk, I ran into a clerk who may have already had a bad day before I got there, was argumentative and acted as if all the problems at the hotel were my fault and my problem. It was upsetting enough that I called Holiday Inn's Customer Service line. That was the first sympathetic person I talked to the entire 5 day stay. I had rented 2 rooms during our stay and they were both in similar condition. When you are on vacation it should not be a struggle to get the bare essentials such as working mechanicals and a clean room. It detracted from the vacation #August 18th-22nd, 2013) and I can not stress enough to stay as far away from this hotel as possible. It doesn't even come close to the standards of the Holiday Inn chain. Their franchise should be revoked. August 25, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate, but not much more. The positives are the location of this hotel, and the staff was certainly friendly. The restaurant attached to the hotel was actually pretty good. Negatives are that the linens did not fit the bed right and were constanly pulling off. The hotel is very dated, dingy and somewhat grimy. I would probably stay here again if we ever made it back to South Dakota, but it was certainly below what I would expect from a Holiday Inn. August 22, 2013

Had planned to stay for 4 nites but changed mind after just one nite. Husband does a lot of traveling and always stays at Holiday Inns but he said this was one of the worst.. I figured the staff would be fed up with dealing with a bunch of bikers by the end of the week but that wasn't true. We were given the gold star treatment. All of the hotel staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. Our room was returned to pristine status every afternoon. I was very impressed and will definately be back. August 16, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Property in desperate need of updates Air conditioning was not working in our room. Hotel did not offer to do anything to help meet our needs. We eventually asked for a room fan and they brought us a dirty, dusty box fan. Rooms are outdated and appear unclean. Waste of my priority points on this stay. On the plus side, the Lucky 13 Pub had very good food and the property is centrally located to local attractions. August 3, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ugraded We were pleasantly surprised to get upgraded to a suite at this property. The room was very nice! The property is very nice, we have stayed here in the past. When we got to our room the A/C had been turned off, I assume to save power. The problem was the A/C was never able to get the room cooled off during our stay. If the hotel had not been full and we would have been staying for more than one night, we would have asked for a different room even if we did not get our upgrade. July 29, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Room was NOT non-smoking We have been traveling and staying with Holiday Inn for several years now. I pay more than I have to for a room and trust Holiday Inn because I have really bad problems with allergies and I am particularly sensitive to smoke. All of our rooms on our two week trip were just great except room 261 at your hotel. We checked in late at night and the air in the room smelled like a smoker had spent the night there. Everything was clean and the room was nice but I had a terrible night because of the smell. I opened the door and checked to see if the sign said non-smoking and it did. It was late in the afternoon of the next day before I got the taste of smoke out of my mouth. I paid for a non-smoking room and I deserved a non-smoking room. This is just bad management---no other excuse. We sign each time we check in that we will be responsible for charges if we smoke in your hotels. The guest that smoked should have been charged and the room should have been cleaned. The ladies at the desk were extremely nice when we checked in. We did not go back down to ask to be moved because we were both exhausted. It is very disappointing to know that I am a IHG Rewards Club Member and long time guest and that this is the service I received. Please be sensitive to people that have particular needs. It is very serious when lack of discipline can be a health hazard. I expect and should receive what I pay for July 22, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Leaky roof, leaky A/C, poor internet, smelly toilet. The main roof leaked so that several mornings there were drips or pours coming from roof down to main level. The A/C in the room leaked to the point I had to wear sandals in the room to squish around the place. There was a definite sewer smell that came from the toilet - not sure if it wasn't ventilated or plumbed properly or what. Many evenings the internet would not connect at all. Sometimes it did, but was VERY slow. Glad I could use my iPhone as a hotspot. There were 2 treadmills, a bike and an eliptical in a converted guest room acting as the fitness room. No dumbbells. The staff was genuinely pleasant and helpful; the rooms were clean and inviting; food was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a smoking room and it literally did not smell of smoke. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great price on clean room and great evening customer service My family was traveling back from Yellowstone and needed a hotel to sleep and let the kids swim in the morning before hitting the road another 9 hours. Called the Holiday Inn in Spearfish and was greeted by the most helpful, pleasant, front desk person I have talked with in quite awhile. Jeremy was very accommodating and made sure they had a rollaway left before we booked the room. Upon our late arrival (10PM) Jeremy already had the rollaway ready to go in the room, which was a plus with 3 tired kids. The room was clean and comfy beds. The halls were a bit loud with a party or something running around but we bring a fan with to drown out noise. There were no towels next to pool in the morning, but I let the front desk know and by the time I got back to the pool they were there. The only major setback is the "free breakfast." The attached restaurant did not do well with breakfast. It took 10 minutes to get water and 35 to get our breakfast food. There were only 4 other tables in the restaurant. When we were given the check she did not discount and we had to give it back to her 3 times until finally we left some money because we wanted to get back on the road. They should probably have better communication with the hotel so they can understand the discount ($20 voucher and kids eat free) and charged customers properly. June 30, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by On the Road This was an excellent choice for the night..Just could not spend another night in the camper and my grandson wanted to watch the Miami Heat final game....this room was comfortable and clean. It was within walking distance of a restaurant..perhaps they should consider steps down to the restaurant, but the climb down the hill wasn't too bad.. Just loved the friendliness of the front desk and the rest of the staff. June 26, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Wouldn't stop here again Upon arrival, I needed to interrupt the clerk from a social conversation that she was having with another person. I was not recognized as a priority club member (actually asked her if she was going to acknowledge the fact) nor did I receive any type of welcome. She seemed to be bothered that I had arrived. The room selected had not been upgraded based on my platinum status and I asked if she could do so. Again, she was "bothered" but did. Upon arriving at the room, we discovered that instead of 2 queen beds, we had a king and pull out couch. We decided that we would "make do". The room was spacious and clean. Another drawback from the hotel was that it was very large and difficult to find the rooms. There was little signage. This is an old style hotel with a pool in the center (did not smell very well in this area) as we went thru to the lobby. We were to have had a coupon to use for a "discount of 10% or a free drink and did not receive it until the next morning. We decided that going to the neighboring Perkins restaurant was a better option. We did not feel very welcome at this location and would not recommend it to others that are traveling in the area. It was on the way to our next location of Devil Tower and then on to Cody, WY. May 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Experience This is the worst Holiday Inn we ever stayed at. The night we stayed they were having some kind of function going on. When we checked in the front desk girl did not inform us that right outside our door (on the first floor) there would be an auction going on and a LOUD speaker would be used. I called the front desk as soon as we got to our room and asked how long this was going to go on. She said she didn't know but thought it would be over by 8PM. At 8:25 we went out to the front desk and she said well I didn't know but it should be soon. At 9PM we went back out to front desk and she still didn't know but the two guys she was talking too said it was over officially at 9:30PM. Well the loud speaker was turned off at 9:30PM but the noise level remained the same. It got quiet at 10:30PM. We traveled all day and wanted to relax and get a good night's rest. That didn't happen. When we told the front desk person in the morning both the female and male people didn't do anything about it only wanted to give us something. It was not about getting something for nothing. It was about the front desk people dong their job. We are Priority Club members and we never had such little cooperation from staff. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If staff would have been upfront with us from the beginning we could have made a decision about staying there. May 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable Visit This was our third time staying at the Holiday Inn in Spearfish and once again we had a great experience. The hotel staff was accomodating and polite. We will be staying there again very soon. Also loved the fact that besides having coffee makers in the room, you could always get coffee in the hotel lobby 24/7. The restaurant is fabulous also. The kids eat free for hotel guests is a HUGE plus also. April 5, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Most comfortable beds with ok service at night The day staff was extremely helpful, and the hotel is a very comfortable place. The beds are more comfortable than my own personal bed. The only area that might need attention is the young evening staff in the hotel lobby and the restaurant. We only needed a set of plastic silverware and they refused to give us any, even if we waited in the lobby because we only had socks on. March 18, 2013
