I based my choice of this hotel others reviews. The hotel was run down, dirty windows, stains on the pull out couch. Also didn't get the room I requested via the Holiday Inn reservations line. I asked for the biggest suite available and they gave me the queen ocean view, apparently I should have asked for the "deluxe" queen. The front desk didn't have any of those "deluxe" rooms available but they did give additional priority points towards staying with Holiday Inn in the future. My biggest beef was with the Square Whale restaurant, all it had was a bunch of college kids running around. They were always out of items on the menu and restaurant was dirty and I took a quick look in the kitchen and I saw all sorts of garbage on the floor. Their prices were outrageous for what you got. Now, I must say that the Greenery restaurant was totally different! There were older people who ran the front desk. They were highly organized and had great service. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. Overall, I found the staff very friendly. Unfortunately I would not stay there again.

Our family of 4 stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed the property location, atmosphere and amenities. The movie theatre was great on the afternoon where it was too hot for the beach. The choices of 3 pools was great and the ambiance of the bar pool is really fun. The only problem we had was the cleaning crew kept forgetting to clean our room during our stay. Otherwise we highly recommend this property. We will be back!!

Me and my kids had a great time this past weekend. Entire staff was so nice and accommodating throughout our entire stay. The front desk personal were great to deal with and the wait staff. The splash camp personal were very nice and my two kids loved seeing the tortoise's Tonka & Tink. It's a great place to stay and plenty to offer with children. We had a great weekend celebrating Daddy's Birthday and Fathers Day!!!! Highly recommend !!!!

- Great A/C in room
- Nice to have 2 balconies and ocean view
- Multiple pools (indoor and outdoor)
- Flat screen TV's in each room
- Difficult to find parking spot in lot
- Both room keys created did not work when I got to the room after having driven 5.5 hours...a bit disappointing
- Shower door very difficult to slide
- Water pressure in shower (3rd floor# was very weak
- too few power outlets in the walls
- Mattresses were extremely firm #could be a pro if you prefer)
- Room décor looked to be about 15-20 years old
- Price...rather high for one night

I planned to contact Crestline Hotels and Resorts, responsible for the hotel operations, and let them know about our stay, but their website does not allow direct contact with their leadership team, so public feedback seems the way to go.
The good: staff are friendly, the pools are clean, the Greenery breakfast was fantastic, and the room was good, but not fully clean when we entered it.
The bad: Stayed at the hotel the second week of June, 2013 while traveling with my wife and four kids. We purchased the most expensive room, ocean view, double queen suite. I checked to see if our room was ready at 3:30 pm and I was told it was not, but they took my cell phone number and said they would call when it was ready. Starting at 4pm, the stated check-in time, I began to call, it took 3 phone calls from me, then at 5pm I walked to the front desk and had a terse conversation with the front desk worker--seventy-five minutes after check-in time--the room was ready. While waiting I asked to speak with the manager, Mr. H, but I was told he was too busy checking in other guests. I could see him at the end of the counter and he clearly saw me, but made no effort to help resolve the situation. Why is the manager checking in guests?
What really bugged me about this, was no offer of recompense was made by the staff for not having the room ready and making me wait with a crying 1 year old for seventy-five minutes. The attitude of the staff was "too bad for you..." Assuming the highest profit margin is on the most expensive rooms, you would think these would be the first rooms ready for paying customers.
The problems continued at the Square Whale restaurant--the worst dining experience I've had in years. We ordered an appetizer sampler and requested the waitress bring it as soon as possible as our kids were very hungry. After waiting for 45 minutes, the waitress informed us that the appetizer was dropped by kitchen worker and she offered us a bowl of fries instead. It wasn't just our table, I witnessed them drop off the small bowls of fries at the same time to several other tables.
After waiting 50 minutes our meal was ready but my buffalo chicken salad, which was to have boneless chicken in the salad, came with a side of boned chicken as they ran out of the boneless type. The table next to us fumed at their waitress when she attempted to serve them a sandwich that had been sitting for 30 minutes, the guest commented he was watching the sandwich sit under a heat lamp for 30 minutes when she finally took it to serve to him. Also, while we were waiting, I saw another guest walk to the register and demand they get his bill right--he was visibly upset and looked as though he was going to get violent. Surely enough, when our bill came, it included an order of roasted chicken entre we did not order. The odd thing--the restaurant was only 1/2 full when these problems were happening. To top off the night, the waitress dropped off the check and said she would pick it up whenever we were ready. The kids were supposed to get a free desert (ice cream) so I asked about it before paying the check, but the waitress said she "thought" they were out of ice cream. I asked she go check--she did and there was plenty of ice cream for the kids. The waitress sums up my thoughts on the staff at this hotel--friendly but clueless in terms of customer service.
There was positive from this terrible dining experience, the bus-girl, who heard our baby crying, graciously found a banana for him to nosh on while we were waiting for the food. We did not ask for it, she brought it to us after seeing us walk with him and try to calm him while waiting for dinner. The bus-girl was the best part of this Holiday Inn experience. I wish I knew her name--she was the one person who clearly understands customer service.
I think the check in was a fluke--but the manger's response to it was not. If Crestline and Holiday Inn aim to delight a customer, then they should have a clear process on how to assist a customer who is waiting on their room. The Square Whale is a mess--this was not just us--I witnessed several upset customers and there were not that many in the restaurant. The Square Whale needs an overhaul from the manager to the wait staff, but at least one bus-girl gets it. I'm not sure of what training, processes, or systems are in place by Crestline, but they all need improvement at this hotel. I've stayed at Holiday Inns during my 20 year career as a military officer and never experienced anything like I did at this hotel. The staff are good people who work at the hotel but they and the Holiday Inn brand are being let down by poor management.

The room was very over priced. There was absolutely no service of any kind. I was forced to pay $60 by cab to get back to the Airport. I would never, ever return to this hotel or recommend it to anyone. The food also was terrible and difficult to get. I consider this to be a lost weekend.

This place was awesome. 3 pools all clean and well taken care of, the only motel I've been at that had lounge chairs out next to the boardwalk. This place was closer to a resort than a motel. Room was huge could sleep six, clean and comfortable. Have already recommended this property to more than one person. It was a bit pricey but trust me well worth it. I will be returning.

I loved staying at your hotel. Your employees were so helpful. They couldn't do enough. Seriously though, you MUST do something about the music played around your outdoor pool. We so looked forward to sitting around the pool , chatting with friends, reading and just enjoying the water. The music was so loud we avoided the pool. Please do not ignore this email. Our hearing is at stake. I had to ask repeatedly for the bartender to drop the level of sound. Music should be a backdrop not an annoyance to ones enjoyment.
P.S. My husband and I travel across country and only stay at Holiday Inn Espress Hotels.

We enjoyed our recent stay at the Holiday Inn, VB. The friendlliness of EVERY employee stood out to me, the most. The accomodations were very good and clean. Lovely pool area and great restaurant next to the pool.

I reserved two rooms for my entire family for the Memorial Day Weekend. We drove all night and arrived about 8:00 am Friday morning, and the staff was so kind to let us into our rooms early. The upgrades to two beautiful suites were magnificent. The breakfast buffet was delicious. Too bad we couldn't do anything about the weather, but otherwise, we had a great weekend.

The staff ath the hotel was fantastic, except in the breakfast area. Overall experience was great. The only negatives were loud guests in the next room, it sounded like they were in our room. And, the staff in the breakfast restaurant was not professional or efficient.

Our family has stayed at a few of the Holiday Inn hotels and have always been impressed with the courteous and friendly staff. Everyone we encountered at the North Beach hotel was accommodating and friendly, from the housekeeping staff, front desk, and restaurant employees.
Our daughter was sick the last night of our stay and we called the front desk for a change of bed linens. We had them within 10 minutes. Other places I've stayed at the beach, you were lucky if you didn't have to make a second call regarding your request.
The hotel was clean, updated, and our 2 bedroom suite was very spacious. The bathroom was very large, which is usually not the case in some hotels.
Although the weather was a bit chilly the 2nd and 3rd night, we were able to take advantage of the indoor pool and take in some sightseeing at the Botanical Gardens and Petting Farm nearby! My husband was impressed with their gym on site, which he used every morning of our stay. The best part was coming back to a relaxing atmosphere at the hotel, and you can't beat waking up with the great view of the ocean and the beach. I loved that this hotel was at the end of the boardwalk, on the quiet end.
We will definitely go back before the end of the summer so we can spend more time on the beach and utilize the outdoor pools.
The only reason I did not give the hotel a 5 star was because we could not utilize the movie theater due to a two/three day business meeting. The food was average, however, the buffet breakfast was great, waffles and omelets made to order along with a la carte items! Great staff in the morning too.
After our stay was complete, there was an issue with our credit card but even after we had checked out (about two days) the management staff were courteous on the phone and assisted me with the issue. Janine-#spelling? explained the situation and she made sure that the issue was resolved-even at 9pm that night! That's customer service. I can't say enough about the professionalism of the hotel staff. Whatever training program Holiday Inn is using, keep it up!

2 days of relaxing on the beach is all we wanted. The staff at this hotel is very friendly, and very helpful. I left my camera in the breakfast café, and they called my room within minutes to let me know where it was, before I had even missed it.
The only thing that marred our visit, and it's not the fault of the hotel, was the bands on the beach 9 blocks away. The sounds of the bass travelled up the beach and could be readily heard. It was very distracting.
The rooms are clean, and I love having a balcony looking over the boardwalk and the beach. We'll be back.

I booked this hotel by accident and I am glad I did. The staff was amazing. The indoor pool with the "lazy river" was my grandson's favorite place. The children's area was a great idea for a rainy afternoon. I loved my room and my family enjoyed the suites. It was at the end of the boardwalk so were not haunted by too much traffice. I would highly recommend this place!

We had a very relaxing stay on Virginia Beach. The hotel is at the far north end of the boardwalk (the quiet end), which was good since this was our first time on Virginia Beach and we were there with a 3 year old. Everybody always had a smile for us and was ready to do whatever it took to make sure we were satisfied. The only downside was that we missed not having a bathtub, the elevator was extremely slow, and it was annoying to me that everytime that someone turned the bathroom light on the extremely loud fan would come on, which would wake us up during the night. These are the only things that prevented our entire stay from being excellent.

Although the weather was less than cooperative during our stay the accomodations was very pleasing. The hotel was clean and the room comfortable with nice view. The restaurants located within the facility was nice on the evenings when you didnt want to travel or look for parking. The kids really enjoyed the indoor pool and lazy river especially with the weather being less than desirable. Thought the movie theater was a nice touch soething we hadnt experienced previously. The staff was friendly and accomodating especially the ladies that worked in the play area. The turtles was very interesting and fun to play with. First trip to Virginia beach but an enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay at the VA Beach - North Beach property. Three pools for the kids, right off the beach, and north of all the congestion so you don't feel crowded. Food was good and the kid's playroom and media room are really nice too. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back!

Hotel was awesome, staff was very friendly, room was very clean. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the morning, and the fact that the kids ate free was a bonus! Kids loved the Lazy Susan river pool. Wish we had remembered to bring an inflatable to float on. I would highly recommend this hotel we plan on visiting again next time we come to the VA beach area.
The only negative thing and it is minor, we stayed on the first floor near the the conference room and there were about a 100 people out in the hallway for some sort of cheer-leading event. I guess they were getting checked in for the event and It was a little loud for about an hour or so in our room. When we went to dinner the hallway was packed and we had to weave our way through.

We stay at the Hotel twice a year ..
This time the cleaning staff was not very good .
The five days we were there we had to tell the main desk to have the cleaning people come in and empty the trash and they only made the bed ..
It is to my understanding that they are to change the sheets every other day. We never had them changed at all in the five days we were there.
That was the only problem .. The staff at the desk were great .,
along with the rest of the staff to run the hotel ... as always..

I love, love this hotel and its staff. They are courteous, friendly, and helpful. The only reason I did not relax completely is because I was working, but to look out my window and see the ocean and hear it while I worked, certainly helped my mood. Unfortunately, now that the rates are going back up, I will have to wait until the cold weather returns to stay again.

Great place for our family reunion. Awesome beach, Great pools. But stinging eyes from chlorine, still really fun. Great and accommodating staff. Really nice rooms! Comfy and high end-ish. I would have loved to spend less money, but it was ok and it was actually a really nice hotel and area on the beach, away from the hectic boardwalk scene but still close enough to get in the mix if you walk down the boardwalk. Nice and clean and fun! The rooms were nice, the food was great, the amenities fun! It had a good family vibe with good quality.
