Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My DC visit My family and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Capital and really enjoyed it. The rooms and beds were very comfortable and the hotel is in a great location for site seeing. I cannot comment on the food because we did not try any of the restaurants. We went to Washington more for the site seeing. For those on a budget like we were there is a McDonalds and Quixnos Subs and a CVS Drugstore within a short walking distance. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to DC to see the sites. April 6, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy bar Overall I enjoyed my 5 day stay. The only downside in my view is the excessively loud music, i.e. noise, several nights in the bar. It is so loud one cannot converse easily and so raucous that it is totally unenjoyable. Who can like a quick meal and drink in such an environment? April 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Parking garage very difficult First, let me say that I'm grateful that garage parking was available. Second, I have never been in a garage that was as difficult to deal with as this one. The signage is sparse and poorly placed, none of the support columns are marked with letters or numbers to assist in locating your self or your car, and the multiple elevators lead to long unmarked hallways that seem unrelated to the hotel. There a many dead-ends rather than a continuous flow of direction. Many of the spots are small; because they are not marked as such, vans and small pick-ups block the lanes. There are very loud exhaust fans in the walls. The whole place could be a movie set for a parking lot scare scene, or, perhaps a set-up for Candid Camera, depending on how tired you are when you deal with it. April 5, 2013

Well we got there @ check-in, the frontdesk advised us that if we wanted to wait we could have a room available not overlooking the train tracks. Porter came out unloaded our bags, handed us the tickets and advised us of a local place to grab lunch [not the in-house resturant] - as we had not done so yet thanks to traffic and construction in Georgetown. Upon out return, not only were our bags already in a room overlooking the commons area, we had a message from the Concierge in response to a request my wife had made a week earlier about the moonlight tours. Was nice to run into a place that knew what our plans were. Location was @ the museums, not a bad walk to nice places to eat, and the Metro was close by for the trip to the zoo - Only thing that could have been better was the parking - WAY Overloaded and defined w/ reserved spots - spent nearly 1/2 an hour looking for a place to park - and deadends were not marked - nor was there anyone there to "help" April 4, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It's okay We visited the Holiday Inn Capitol while we were in D.C. for a few days. We chose this hotel because of its proximity to tourist attractions. It is very close to the Smithsonian, National Mall, Capitol Hill, etc. There are plenty of tourist sites within walking distance. However, the hotel is in some kind of restaurant desert - there are no restaurants nearby except for McDonald's, Quiznos, and a couple of other fast food lunch places. The only sit-down restaurants in the vicinity are the two in the hotel, which aren't bad. There also appears to be no corner store or grocery store nearby. This made it difficult to obtain incidentals like beer or snacks. Of course, room service will gladly bring you a six pack of beer for $30. L'Enfant metro station is nearby, also. Cabs were easy to catch outside of the hotel. If you are only in town to see the sights and don't plan on eating anywhere other than Mickey D's or the hotel, this is a great choice. If you prefer more food options, try a different neighborhood. The hotel itself is okay, but a bit pricey for what you get. Parking is also very expensive at $30 per day. The rooms were clean, but the beds were VERY uncomfortable. We all had trouble sleeping while we were there. Hotel staff were okay, not rude but not overly friendly either. They screwed up our parking validation, which meant we were held hostage in the parking garage until they corrected it. The cleaning people asked us every day if we were checking out, even though our reservation was for several days, which was weird. We did room service once because we didn't want to take another cab to a restaurant, and the food was actually quite good. All in all, it was a mixed experience. I wouldn't go back to this particular location because of the lack of restaurant options and the uncomfortable beds. April 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Experience This was the first time that my husband and I took our daughters to sight see in DC so we wanted a family friendly hotel close to the Mall. I was pleasantly surprised with how close it was as well as how well it accomodated families. We reserved under the Bed, Breakfast, and Beyond package which was definitely a great value. It provided myself and my husband with free breakfast each morning from a fabulous breakfast buffet. My younger daughter could eat free off the kid's menu or for a minimal price from the buffet. Plus, the package made our parking only $15 per day. Great convenience with a CVS and a Starbucks right next door. My only criticism is that the beds were only full size but I was informed that by 2014, a renovation within the hotel will change them to queen size. I had a great experience with all the staff that I came into contact with which made our stay all that much more pleasant. I definitely will stay there again next time we go to DC. April 1, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Johnny come lately Apon check in my family noticed that the internet was not working. We were told by the front desk to keep refreshing our broswers to slove the problem. Well that did not work. After even trying to use the internet in the lobby we realized this was a hotel wide issue of bad internet service. After complaining again close to the end of our stay the front desk did call our room and try to meet with us about the problem but it was too late. After our return home the hotel did call and say they had a repairman come out to fix the problem and to broaden the band width. I hope future guests will not have the same problem I did. There aren't many restauants in the area but its very close the metro and there is a Starbucks and restaurant onsite. The hotel is clean and was comfortable for a long weekend. March 22, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Awful accomodations but a great front desk manager I was in three rooms within the first couple of hours of checking in. The first room was incredibly noisy--the train outside of the window and the constant hum of machinery coming from somewhere in the building. The second (non-smoking) room had an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke coming from the vent --which could not be closed. The third room wasn't as noisy and didn't smell so I took a shower and got into bed. I tried to arrange for a wake up call but the phone didn't work. I later noticed that there were stains on the curtains and filth on the bedside lamp. I was exhausted and didn't want to keep hunting for a room. When I complained the next day, the front desk manager did everything he could to be accomodating but the damage was done. The manager said that they were due for rennovations. I wouldn't stay there again until after the rennovations are done. March 22, 2013

There was a quiznos, macdonald's and a starbucks but that was it. There was no breakfast included but there should be. Make sure to ask for a room on the side of the hotel away from the trains...the trains are very noisy and we asked to switch rooms. March 21, 2013

The metro system is less than a few blocks away for travel to those places further away. The staff at the hotel and restaurant were very friendly. The room was cleaned nicelyl. It is very close to the L'Enfant Metro station and practically next door to the Air and Space Museum. My son and I felt very safe walking to an from both places. We were very happy with the hotel staff, and the breakfast options are great through the restaurant or the Stabucks in the lobby. We were very pleased with the location and amenities. I was somewhat surprised at the small size of the room and lack of space to luggage, and we had a very difficult time getting the temperature in the room in a comfortable range. No matter what we set the thermostat or how we adjusted the fan, the room maintained a VERY warm 75 degrees--a hot and very dry air temp even in February. The fan was EXTREMELY loud--hard to have a conversation or concentrate over it. It would have been nice to have a safe in the room. March 13, 2013

It is within walking distance to the Department of Education, House and Senate Office Buildings. Hotel is only a block and a half from the L'Enfant metro stop making it easy to get to and from Reagan National and to various sights in town. Smithsonian Museums were within walking distance. I appreciated the convenient express meals for a quick bite to eat in the morning or a quick, reasonably priced lunch on the go. Service staff was great. My room was quiet -- not a lot of noise from other guests. Bed was a little firm for my liking. I would choose this hotel again when I have business in DC. March 11, 2013

I did not have hot water my first morning. I would have appreciated a partial refund. It was fixed, but still not great. My room did not have a microwave as promised. The Capitol Bistro no longer has a salad bar, which was a big disappointment. March 10, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Attending a DOE Conference I appreciated the fact that the Holiday Inn is located so close to the conference site. It made it very easy to get from place to place as needed. The room was great and always cleaned when I returned in the afternoon. I needed to check out a little later than noon and the staff were very accommodating. When I did check out around 12:30, I was able to store my luggage with the bellhop. We had a great stay and I would stay at the hotel again. Thank you. March 5, 2013

And I like the fact they have spare toothpaste/toothbrush, razor and shaving creaming upon request. Other toiletries included shampoo/conditioner/lotion, shower cap, and a make-up remover towlet.
