Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Renovation, ask for a completed room Property is undergoing a renovation to bring it up to modern style. I stayed in a room that was completed that week (possibly that day), so it was nice to have everything new. The hall carpet must have just been laid down, because there was an overwhelming odor of adhesive and/or chemicals in the hallway. While that was detectable in the room it wasn't as bad and I could bring fresh outside air in using the air conditioner. I didn't watch it, but the TV seemed like it was a little small compared to other HIE's I've stayed in, although it wasn't that long ago that a 20" set was the norm. It was a little confusing getting to the property from the highway because you have to make a few unexpected turns to get to the building. August 12, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by food don't wish to comment further the food was cold, the gravy too sweet for sausage gravy. the eggs were cold, the sausages flavorless. the coffee was good. the pancakes were ok. condiments need to be more focal, didn't see the salsa for the eggs until I was done. warmers need to keep the food warmer. the service, though was good. she kept the trays full as quickly as she could August 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Updated Hotel, Poor Customer Service I stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn Express in Bonner Springs off of I-70 and the location is ideal, very close to Legends and all that it offers. The room was great, newly updated, which I enjoyed. When I checked in the staff was friendly and helpful. Downside, my DOOR WAS OPENED while I was sleeping in the morning (this woke me up.) I had the top lock on or they could have walked right in. As a woman staying alone I was concerned. I called down to the front desk and the man that answered the phone was adamant that he did not do it. I did not accuse him, I simply wanted to let him know what happened and to look into it. He was more concerned with making sure that he said his piece about not being the one to open the door, and not even an apology for that experience. When I left the room I was greeted by a very friendly construction manager that stated he opened the door as they do every morning as they are still working on this floor and apologized that he was not told that anyone was staying on this floor. I very much appreciated his honesty and apology. The staff obviously has poor communication skills at this hotel and even worse customer service. August 11, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great breakfast but rate too high for locale We stayed here because all of the hotels in Shawnee were booked for softball/ baseball tournaments and weddings- the hotel was being remodeled, but it didn't affect our stay. Everything was good and the breakfast was even great, but the rate was about $20- 30 a night higher than comparable chains in different locations. I suppose the proximity to the racetrack justifies the higher rate. July 30, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dirty, being remodeled, food gross, room not clean Breakfast was not edible. Hardboiled eggs had a brown slime on them. Pancake machine broken. Scrambled eggs runny. Room dirty, no fan to run all night on A/C, began hammering loudly at 9 am and chunks of ceiling actually were falling off into our room, floor/room dirty. The toilet wasn't fully connected to the floor and moved every time you sat down on it. The shower leaked. The sheets were old July 28, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Exterior construction, dated property Perhaps the HI Express in Bonner Springs is undergoing a renovation. It's a bit dated looking inside and out and could use some refreshing. The staff was friendly and very helpful - hopefully the property will be improved to match the quality of the staff. All in all, we had a quiet night's sleep, but the nearby dining choices at this exit are very limited so for that reason alone we would try to get into a property at the Villages West exit next time. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Chaos When we checked in, we had reserved a King Size room but we were sent to a Double Queen. When we called the desk, we were asked to come down to the front deak for a King Size but much to our chagrin, the room was on the 3rd floor, next to the reconstruction work of the motel where there was much drilling and pounding.... plus the room reeked of cigarette smoke. We finally got a King back on the second floor. When we checked in, we also asked what time was breakfast and was told that it was at 6:00 a.m. I asked the clerk again to be sure, since the last Holiday Inn Express we stayed in did not start breakfast until 6:30 a.m. She again assured me that it was 6:00. However when we arrived at breakfast the next morning, the lights were out and the night clerk said that breakfast didn't start until 6:30. After sharing what the clerk had told us earlier, he did set the dry cereal out but there was not much else. We wanted to leave early and so we ate and at 6:25 the cook came in to work....needless to say we were late in getting our early start. June 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet and comfortable My family and I stay at the hotel for the Kansas Nascar weekend. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and the price was great. I had actually made a mistake in my reservation and booked myself short for one night. The night before we would have to check out I checked with the front desk to see if there was any chance they had a cancellation and they did, so we were able to stay the next night as well. The cost of the additional night was at the same rate as my other nights no added charge for the room. I was surprised as I knew all hotels in the area were booked up. The room I had found for us to go to was nearly 10 miles away. I was so thankful I was able to cancel that reservation and keep the room at the Holiday Inn Express. June 5, 2014

Any thing I ask for or needed they got it done for me. Breakfast was extremely delicious by Cindy. Becka was a really good housekeeper. Number 1 room service I ever had, never seen a clean room like how she did it. I loved it. These people you have working for you are the best and I ever own my own hotel. I would love for them to work for me, cuz they are really good people that I ever meet. You should be glad you have people like them working at your hotel. May 16, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A little disappointed... The staff at the Bonner springs location were very nice and went beyond their specified duties for us. Zero complaints in that department. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We were OK with this holiday inn express for the most part, However, we were disappointed that there was not an option for a smoking Jacuzzi room. also, when we arrived, we found that the Jacuzzi was located in the bathroom and not the bedroom itself. I also noticed that it was hard to even relax in the Jacuzzi because it was located so close to the door and hallway that we heard everyone outside of the room. when my husband went to watch the KU basketball game, there was no sound. After calling the front desk we were informed that the hotel does not get sound for that channel? While these are minor issues and our stay was still decent, I just feel that it may have been misrepresented a bit. We would still book a regular room here. March 26, 2014
