My friend also spilled some water on the carpet and I am assuming that is my I was charged 25 dollars to my credit card (I was never notified about the additional charge however it is somewhere in the policy). Other than this an excellent hotel, friendly staff, clean, close enough to downtown. I will definitely stay here again. June 27, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by February in Calgary Stayed in the Calgary Holiday Inn Express recently for four nights. My room was a good size and all of the features were to a good standard. Internet Access was variable, on more than five occasions I could not connect, at at other times it was extremely slow (<0.7Mb/sec) The single lift in the hotel is a big problem, turning what should be a 1 minute journey into a 5 minute wait. Breakfast was basic, with limited selection or choice, with the pancake machine out ot action. Other than at breakfast, there is nowhere to get a hot drink. The staff were professional and helpful, on one ocassion offering to make some coffee up for us. February 9, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bathroom needs maintiance I stayed room 904 and there were issues with the shower rod in the bathroom. The rod is one of those outwards curved ones, which is fine but the mounts were bent. Maybe a previous guest was pulling on it? So the shower curtain would sag into the centre. This was super annoying as I was showering the curtain wouldn't stay closed and would slide to the middle. I would continuously try closing it and trying to hold it. By the end of my shower there was a huge puddle on the floor of the bathroom. Very annoying and shows that they need some maintenance in their bathrooms here. December 2, 2013

I had to move again the next day (4 night stay) b/c it was booked. Staff were attentive and I have no issues with them. The locale is less than desirable too since it is on the edge of downtown with many "interesting" folks around. Seems very overpriced for an out of date hotel. October 7, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great location in Calgary Stayed at the hotel on business on my first ever trip to Calgary, found that my office was all the way over the other side of town, but this did not matter as the hotel is close to the C-Train station and is in the free ride zone downtown. I didn't drive so couldn't take advantage of the hotels free parking but the parjade looked safe and secure. Rachael on the front desk was very helpful and assisted in anything that I requested. The balcony was strange as it was small and had no furniture on it so it's not like you could sit out there and enjoy a coffee but nice to have. I always request a room on a high floor for noise but they could not do this for me on this stay, and so I did have the noise of the street and also the hotel has a pub next door where the ocupants come outside to smoke and shout so could hear that also, I was on the third floor. The hotel overall was nice and when I come to Calgary again I will stay there again, I love that you have a Shaw box with cable guide so that I could see what was on. Breakfast was the normal Holiday Inn Express breakfast, nice and fresh as always and one day I had an apointment so had to leave early, they gave me a bag to take breakfast away with me. All the staff are friendly and the hotel was nice overall, I had an enjoyable stay for business. September 24, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not great The location is not great being that it is on the edge of downtown. Also the area it is in is apparently is a place where people can pay people for services. (I found this out after mentioning to someone in our office about the area feeling shady) This is not some place I recommend to traveling families. Also the decor is outdated and old. When you walk into the lobby it smells like smoke. Breakfast items well there was not much of a selection and it left me feeling very bland about it. If they do updates and better breakfast they might do better since they cannot really help location. August 26, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by My last stay at this hotel This was my fifth stay at this particular hotel, and I think it will have been my last. I realized that the overall value offered by the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Calgary Downtown is pretty poor. For the surprisingly high cost that I paid, I got unreliable Internet access, long wait times for the single elevator, a crowded parking lot with homeless people harassing me, computers and printer in the business center that were perpetually out of order, and a front desk that charged my credit card for the entire cost of my 5-night stay when I arrived. These are all things that you would expect from a sub-standard motel, not a hotel that purports to be geared towards business travelers. There aren't a lot of business hotels in downtown Calgary, but there has to be something that is a better choice than this. I'm a devoted IHG Rewards Platinum member, but I'll look elsewhere next time I'm in Calgary. July 26, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unpleasant Stay This is to relay my dissatisfaction on my recent stay at this location on July 14-16. The location does not look like safe specially at night when strolling in the area, the price is comparable to other hotels near the centre of the city and the staff was not attentive to my needs. The first night stay, I was given a room adjacent to the elevator - I had asked to be transferred away from the elevator. The night manager/staff noted this but I did not hear nor was advised whether this was possible. I was supposed to check out on July 20 (1 - week stay) but had to leave early because of this poor customer service. I advised the front desk staff of my dissatisfaction and said that it will be relayed to the manager, to date, I have not received a call or email or any communication regarding this concern. This is something very unusual to the service that I get from the other hotel locations and I am very frustrated with this outcome. I hope somebody in higher management would take a note of this. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly Recommended Hotel We stayed at Holiday Inn Express, Downtown Calgary for 3 nights from 4th to 7th July as we had booked for the Calgary Stampede and Rodeo. The location was so convenient especially for the Parade on the Friday - we literally only had to walk to the end of the road to find a space on the parade route. The C-train is just around the corner and was so easy to use. Our room had been modernly updated and had a very comfortable bed - the room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The complimentary breakfast buffet was freshly made and continuously topped up and was delicious - there was something for everyone's tastes. The reception staff were very professional, friendly, courteous and helpful - they are a credit to the company - they certainly made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble - Thank you all, we had a wonderful time from start to finish and we would definitely recommend this hotel. Throughout the process leading up to our stay, the we had several changes and requests and the manager accommodated all of them. She was always cheerful and made all the correspondence seem a breeze and no problem. If you want to stay somewhere where someone cares about their customers and always has a smile, this is the place to stay. We will be back June 4, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ok place The hotel is at the edge of the "good" part of downtown. This means that in the day light it looks ok, however the bars in the windows in the parking area should be somewhat of a tip off that the area changes. By 11pm the adjacent bar/nightclub has a significant crowd out front smoking and enjoying the night air. Unfortunately this club caters to a punk/goth crowd so it looks kind of scary...I would not recommend that the unwary traveller go exploring alone at night in this area. The room was clean and adequate with the great bedding and matress that I love at Holiday Inn. The lobby was an odd mix of new reno dining area and tired looking hallways and entrance. The exterior of the hotel was ok from the front, but very seedy and dingy in the back parking area. The hotel only has one elevator so the wait times can be significant. Check in was done efficiently, however my priority status was not recognized which was odd. (yup its a little thing but I like getting the bottle of water and the appreciation) All in all I wasn't unhappy with the stay, but I wouldn't put it in the top 25% of Holiday Inns that I have stayed at.... Nothing like feeling pushed out the door. Then the question at the front desk. Did you get your invoice last night? Well I guess not considering he was looking at it as he asked the question. Oh one other question since when has it been your policy to ask for photo id at check in? When I made the reservation it just requested that I have my credit card which i did. The service was pleasant however I felt grilled about my identity upon check in. If you want photo id upon check in then please state that as a need upon making and confirming reservations online. I have never been asked for photo id at any other hotel i have stayed in May 25, 2013

The result was that we arrived far before check in time in the hotel. I have had awesome experience from the moment I step in the hotel with the nice staff, to the large room, comfortable bed, nice desk, flat TV and finally good breakfast (american standards) and friendly staff in the kitchen. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice upgrade room with Jacuzzi Since I'd stayed here a few other times recently, the staff welcomed me by name which was a nice touch. I had a nice upgraded room with a Jaccuzi on the 9th floor. Breakfast is the standard fare, but good enough to satisfy. The front desk even took care of receiving a package for me when I was unavailable. Overall I've been very impressed with this hotel. November 28, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice stay We stayed at this hotel while visiting family. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable as were the beds. We had a very good night's sleep. The car park is included in the rates and the underground parking was a very nice touch as it was below zero for the whole time we were there. The gym was a little small for my needs; they have a bike, treadmill and a cross-trainer. The equipment was not what I expected and as a result, we ended up going to a local gym instead. The breakfast is a good way to get a quick start in the morning, but it was very basic. among other things, they had breads (bagels, muffins and very tasty cinnamon buns);milk yoghourt, juice and of course coffee. We didn't try the eggs or bacon. Housekeeping was awesome! Always came back to a clean fresh room after a long day of visiting with family and friends. Nothing was ever amiss. We stayed at this hotel in the past and always return as it is central and close to a variety of affordable restaurants. The c-train is only a couple of blocks away and we always find that handy when commuting downtown. We always felt that no request is too big, which was appreciated. All in all a nice hotel in a good location; with parking, breakfast and WiFi included it was pretty good deal considering the location. October 28, 2012
