Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by If you want good, reasonable accommodation - here it is An ideal base for visiting Kent. Our party of four spent three nights in the hotel. After spending each day visiting places of interest, it was good to go back to the hotel, relax with a drink and then have dinner. A wide choice of food was offered but I feel the desserts could be better. Other than the desserts we felt the food was good and we enjoyed our meal each evening. We, of course, started with breakfast and here again it was good with plenty of variety to suit everyone. The staff were excellent and the trainee on the desk was lovely. When we return to Kent we will definitely stay at The Holiday Inn Express. June 25, 2014

Staff - presumably cleaning staff - started talking in loud voices from about 5.30 am in the room next door to ours. As it was intermittent I managed to get some sleep until I finally got up. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good nights sleep We have stayed here many times and we have always had a good nights sleep.The breakfast area needs some attention,we only saw 3 children but there was egg,beans and cereals spilt all over the floor.Why do you let children help themselves,the parents should be with them all the while.I am disabled and I have to be careful that I do not slip over.The chairs are mostly worn and need replacing..This is the worst that we have seen this place and it needs these matters looked at. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday In Canterbury is a great value for location This hotel is an excellent value for its location which is within easy driving distance from the historic city of Canterbury. The staff were very friendly and efficient - the room was clean/comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was excellent. It was a terrific value in England where many hotels charge extra (the equivalent of $15 per person) for breakfast, with fewer food options. The bar appeared to be well-stocked and the facility was up to date with free parking. Only caution - access from highway is one-way, so be sure and have your route mapped out when nearing the hotel, so you know which turn to take. Would recommend! June 13, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Freies Parken für 10,00 GBP; 1 Nacht - zweifach abgebucht Schade, der Umgang mit dem Geld wird hier nicht zur Kundenzufriedenheit erledigt. Auf der Original Website vom Holiday Inn gebucht und die Option Parken bekommen für 10 Pfund extra. Kannten wir schon, kostete es in Cardiff auch. Vor Ort dann hundert freie kostenlose Parkplätze. Auf Nachfrage vor Ort im Hotel bekamen wir die Antwort, die Parkplätze seien kostenfrei. Unsere 10 Pfund bekamen wir aber nicht wieder, trotzdem das Angebot ohne Parkplatz Option immer noch für den Tag online zu buchen war. Zu Hause dann der zweite Hammer: auf der Kreditkarten Abrechnung taucht das Hotel zweimal auf - einmal mit EUR und einmal mit GBP. Fazit: ICH werde dort nicht noch einmal übernachten, für alle abenteuerlustigen: Das Hotel an sich ist in Ordnung, sauber und nicht zu groß. Es liegt halt direkt an einer Hauptstraße die man in den Zimmern auch hört. Das Frühstück ist sehr übersichtlich gewesen. June 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ferry Stop off Booked a family room as a stop off en-route to Dover ferry. Booking was no problems, very good price for the 4 of us. Checked in no problems but discovered we didn't have the linen for the children's bed. Reception was very friendly and helpful and sent up the linen. When we went to make the bed later though discovered they had given us pillow, a duvet cover and a blanket, not enough to make a bed!! Contacted reception to request a duvet and bottom sheet but they said they didn't have any duvets (What?) and they said they were busy and we'd have to wait for enough linen to make the beds. An hour later we wanted to put the children to bed so contacted reception a third time, again busy and doing what they can. They then bought up some more blankets and sheets which was enough to make the bed. Breakfast was average, but filled a hole. Apart form the sheet fiasco was value for money and would stay again! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by very noisy I have stayed at this hotel on a few occasions and normally its been ok, however on my last stay I must say that it wasn't a very good one, the hotel was extremely busy with even long waits to get served at the bar, it doesn't help when there appeared to be only 2 people on the reception, some hotel guest are extremely ignorant and decide to have a very loud conversation outside my room at around 1.00am thus disturbing my sleep, a loud shout to shut up followed, Not the Hotels fault but maybe a few signs around about noise levels might help. breakfast wasn't great with queues for at least 15 mins to get some dried up beans etc, overall not a good experience and not what I would expect from this chain of hotels May 27, 2014

When ordering I was asked my table number, when I said I think its 10 the answer was 'you need to be sure' so I had to go back and check, me pointing it out wasn't good enough! There were then no diet drinks available at all so I had to make do with water and I was not given a receipt (which I needed to claim money back) When I asked could they provide me with a duplicate receipt when I checked out I was given a straight 'no' When I got back home Saturday I realised I must have left my expensive running shoes in my room so I phoned to see if they could confirm they were there only to be told there was no-one there from housekeeping and could I phone back tomorrow. There are also many posters around the hotel boasting about 'wifi free everywhere' however what it doesn't tell you is that it is so weak you can do very little with it. All in all not a great experience and I will be advising my company to take it off the list for all of our staff May 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by easy for the ferry if you want to catch the early morning ferry, this is the place to stay. Dinner is available which is convenient. Next to gas station which is also convenient before you leave. The shower is superb. Direction to the hotel is not sufficient. Better state: go off when you see the sign for gas station, because you could easily miss it and when you put Upper Harbledown on your GPS, you will miss it. We drove around and around and around (following the GPS) and had to come back from the start on the main road to find it. April 28, 2014

Also tried using the Wifi in the room and in the bar/restaurant but it was terrible, my colleagues had the same problem. I did complain but nothing was done, very disappointing. April 26, 2014

Getting to and from the hotel and Canterbury is a minor annoyance bearing in mind the excellent value for money of this hotel. Room very comfortable, breakfast very good, staff attentive and helpful. A great base for exploring Canterbury and the surrounding Kent countryside April 23, 2014

I found the night receptionist on my previous 2 visits to be excellent and most helpful - even with my late check in time. My only minor gripe is the hash browns - could be better quality - but overall the food is great for choice. Overall, a great stay at at a great price and I will be back. March 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable hotel at a reasonable price apart from a few points We found the Holiday Inn Express at Canterbury quite comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very good and the staff there kept the area clean and tidy. There are just 3 points that let this hotel down:- 1. The lighting in the room is very poor. To read one had to hold the book under the bedside light. We did complain about this and were told that this was the standard in Holiday Inn Express. However, when we stayed at your Apsley hotel, the lighting was much better. An additional light in the main area of the bedroom would make all the difference. 2. The duvet is only a few centimetres wider than the bed. As a result one or both of us seemed to have a cold gap down the side. 3. The time setting on the TV was incorrect. This also meant that the synopsis was incorrect on the TV. We reported this to reception and were told that they would get maintenance to have a look at this but nothing was done. It's a shame that an otherwise good hotel is let down by these points. March 7, 2014
