We had a great stay in Carlsbad. The staff was the most helpful group I've met in a motel. They were all knowledgeable of the area and restaurants. The staff made you feel welcome every time you came through the door. The rooms were exceptionally clean. I can't say enough. Good Job!

One of the best places I have stayed in that was not a resort. The rooms were very clean, the breakfast was great and a large selection so everyone found something they liked. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The Inn was immaculate with helpful attentive staff which eased the stress level of the trip. The breakfasts were good and the area we ate in was clean, bright, and cheerful. We returned two days later because of the positive experience we received while there. There are new restaurants 1/2 block away that made it convenient to grab a nice dinner without driving.

After having a horrible HIE experience in New Jersey last month, the stay at this Holiday Inn Express redeemed the brand. Terrific location, nice property both inside and out. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is high construction worker traffic staying in this town and at this hotel and there was frequent mud tracked into the lobby and other areas. Quickly cleaned up by attentive staff. Would return to this Holiday Inn Express any time I travel to this area.

A nice (but expensive) Holiday Inn in Carlsbad. The suite room we had was very nice and comfortable, The breakfast is good also. The hotel room prices in this town are out of sight - I'm told because of an oil boom of some sort. If you stay late at the caverns to watch the bats, there aren't a lot of decent places to eat that are open late in Carlsbad. Ended up at the sticky little Denny's nearby. Plan accordingly.

Hotel staff very nice and helpful. Good restaurant referral. Road, outside people, and outside A/C noise made the stay less than great. Breakfast was good and the cookies in the evening nice. (Heat the coffee up).

My wife and I have stayed at numerous Holiday Inn's across the country. We have traveled all over the south and west. (We like to take trips to find new places.) We have liked the value and the rooms when we stay at Holiday Inn.
This Holiday Inn in Carlsbad New Mexico was by far, the most expensive that we have ever stayed at. We wanted to go there because, Carlsbad Caverns was a place we wanted to go see.
The rooms were adequate, clean and comfortable. The staff was very pleasant. They even explained why this Holiday Inn Express was about $125.00 more than any that we ever stayed at. They informed us it was because of the oil boom in the area and all the hotels in this area are much higher. That was the only reason that we decided not to stay more than one night. We went to the caverins and left the area. We will stay at a Holiday Inn again, just not this area.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by nohawk42 An older facility
Although this was an older facility it was obvious that it had been recently been updated with new paint. However, it did not look like the painting had been done very professional. However, I would still book this Holiday Inn in the future as this was a minor nit.

The staff at the location and at Holiday Inn Rewards needs a lot of training in customer service. Currently it is not in their vocabulary. We have never been treated so poorly. For the price, even without rewards, I would stay elsewhere.

We drove into Carlsbad at night during a driving rain storm. The town is larger than I expected, and the hotel is on the opposite side of town from the caverns. Because of the job activity and growth in the area, I found that the prices were inflated for what we got, but that is probably not the fault of the hotel. I was told by a shop owner we were lucky to even get a room in town. The staff was friendly, and the free breakfast that is included with the room had a full range of items to choose from, including hot items. All in all, a good experience.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Joy44 Cost of Hotel and Late Checkout Problems
I like Holiday Inn and Express hotels; but I found the one in Carlsbad to be overpriced--charging twice as much as other Holiday Inn Express hotels that I had just stayed in in Denver, Colorado, Casper, Wyoming and other places was just wrong. I felt like this hotel was interested in only one thing and that was the money. I had asked for an 1:00 checkout when making the reservations and when arriving at the hotel. I was told there would be no problem. After 11:00, their normal checkout time, I was called twice to see when i would be leaving and was then locked out of the room at 12:00. To me this is a total lack of customer service.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DONTWANTTOGIVEANAME Price and issues
The price of this hotel far exceeds any HIE I have ever stayed in, including New York City. I was relieved to see that other hotels are being built in this city because I hope it forces this hotel to lower its prices. We had arranged for a 1:00 check out the next morning and when we arrived back at the hotel room at 12:45 to get our things and check out, the room was locked. When we got it rekeyed, the room had been cleaned and made up with all of our luggage in there. It should have been VERY obvious that we had not checked out. This was very discouraging. Also, staff were outside the hotel from 4 a.m. on and were out front talking and socializing and woke us and kept us up (our room was on the 2nd floor and above the front entrance). And finally, please consider adding skim milk (or fat free) milk to the breakfast lineup. In general food quality was below par for other HIEs though everything was clean.

Nothing out of the ordinary except for the price. Astronomical rate for a night at a Holiday Inn Express in Carlsbad, NM? No doubt supply and demand with the oilfield is how this hotel gets away with what is being charged. Thank goodness new hotels are going up that will bring the price back down to reality. I am an IHG Platinum member and the prices charged at this hotel are similar to resort hotels. I guess it's "make hay while you can"!

We stayed in 15 Holiday Inn Expresses in 3 weeks, the hotel would be better served on the other side of town, my opinion! I think the hotel should be priced around $100 a night! Nice and Clean, awesome job staff!

I liked this hotel. The sad thing is that had I not been an IHG member, I would not have been able to afford staying here. I think that if the rates were lower in the off season, you might have more guests. More rooms filled means more money for HIE in the long run.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AZ_Sailor Great bed, nice property, well-trained and friendly staff
We spent several nights here while stopping to see the caverns as part of a long car trip. I am an IHG club member and was greeted as such by the reception desk staff. They were friendly and knowledgeable which certainly made our stay more pleasant. The room was quite nice - a sort of mini-suite layout a TV and a sofa to the front by the bath and the bed and another TV to the back. The bed was great! Very comfortable and a bit taller than typical. The fitness/pool/spa area was clean and stocked with towels. Breakfast was better than run of the mill "free" ones often are and the staff was friendly. The property is well-kept and secure. I would recommend this hotel.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Familyoffour2013 Just an average hotel with polite staff
This was an average hotel experience. I would recommend it as a decent, safe place to stay with a family on a budget. The carpets in the rooms were visibly stained. Stained anything is gross. Also, the shower did not drain properly. Another eww factor. There were a few places in the hotel where carpet had been replaced with random blue cheap carpet and it looked like a botched "patch job". The beds, bathroom and rest of the hotel, like the lobby and dining area were kept in a clean manner. The beds were comfortable. The rooms have a small fridge and microwave which is helpful for families traveling with infants or kids. The free breakfast was bland and luke warm and made of instant fake foods. Stick with an apple and an english muffin and it's fine. The coffee was ok- just strong enough to hold you over until the nearest coffee shop. The staff was polite. The indoor pool was a nice feature since we stayed during cold weather but it is definitely overrun by families with children and not a good spot for adults trying to relax because of the noise of an indoor pool and echo. The pool was clean, clear and well maintained. I would say the hotel has some physical maintenance they should address, like the carpets in rooms and public areas- but otherwise the staff and overall stay are passable for a budget minded family.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HappyRiver Nice place, too expensive
Having family in town means I make a lot of trips here, and I always stay in this hotel. It's clean, well maintained, and has a great staff. The only issue is that it is WAY too expensive, which of course is supply and demand and not the hotel's fault; blame the oil boom. I'm not sure why there's a statue of an Indian god in the lobby, though?

Although this was a nice hotel, our request to be placed away from the highway was not met. I rented two rooms for our USAF son's birthday, and he was right next to the road, also the maids threw away his food in the fridge prior to check-out. One last thing. of the 5 HIE we stayed at the rate was outrageous for the area. It was like we were in NYC, not in the middle of nowhere.

On Wednesday night, September 25 I awoke to the soound of fire alarms blaring. This was particularly disconcerting because I had a 7:05 am flight from El Paso and I needed to get up at 3:00 am to drive 150 miles to meet that flight.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ricknbre Too expensive
I was reluctant to stay here because of the price but did anyways. I found the staff friendly but that's about all I was impressed with. The hotel is much nicer on the outside than inside. I don't know if its old or just cheap, I'm thinking cheap. The hotel has a strange odor from I'm guessing is poor air quality. I was really surprised at how bad the bathroom was. Tile with no grout and shower panels with no caulk. Overall, I will stay in Roswell from now on.
