The staff are awesome. They remember you, what you like and make it happen. The hotel manager is terrific and her staff follow suit. I have been here for several weeks now due to work and they have made being away from home much easier. This location is where I stay whenever in Cedar Rapids.

This hotel is everything you expect from this brand and chain. The hotel was clean and updated and the staff was nice and professional. However, I typically have a refrigerator and microwave in my room and I did not. I typically travel for work and prefer to have the ability to eat in my room.
Also, for me to use this hotel in the future for leisure travel, it would need to be pet friendly and it is no.

I have stayed at this property many times for the past several years and have loved the hotel, staff, and location. This year we had a slew of problems we have never encountered here before. Upon arrival we were given a room that was not at all ready, no sheets, dirty bathroom, no towels, etc. I reserved a room with a microwave and refrigerator and this one did not have them We were eventually given the correct type of room, but only after a lot of "room juggling". Also after our second night a guest had gotten sick in the spa and the pool area was closed for the majority of our stay, the kids only were able to enjoy swimming one day previous to the incident. My kids love their spa and pool and were unable to swim during the majority of our stay. Work room equipment was clean but was broken only 2 machines worked and we were kicked out by a rude guest. My oldest daughter is a Tennis player and she was using the equipment and apparently this guest thought since she was a teenager that she was "playing" on the equipment.

We were in town for a friend's wedding. We were travelling with our 13 month old daughter and had requested a fridge for her meds and food. The fridge was tiny and filthy. Mini fridges are small I get that, but we could barely fit what we needed in there (after I scrubbed it out). Every time we'd get her down for a nap someone would bang on the door. First it would be housekeeping and then it was someone checking up on the new housekeepers. My daughter didn't nap.
Because housekeeping kept coming during nap time I think the room only got cleaned (trash emptied) 1 time. The rest of the time we had to go ask for fresh towels.
Our keys didn't work. I had to keep going to the desk to get them re-setup. That was a huge pain because we were carrying our daughter, diaper bag and about a billion other things.
The elevator stunk because of it's location to the pool. The breakfast area was tiny. We could barely fit a stroller or highchair at our table without being in everyone else's way.
I was led to believe there was laundry facilities on site I could use and had packed accordingly but there wasn't anything we could use. My daughter's dress from the wedding was ruined because I had to wait to get it cleaned. Several other outfits of my daughters are stained because I couldn't wash right away. We had a stinky trip home! Having been to Cedar Rapids many times there are many other places that I would PAY to stay at before using rewards nights here again. Which is sad because usually we have a good time at HIE.

This is an excellent Holiday Inn Express.! I have stayed at this hotel three times in the past 6 months. Each stay has been excellent!

They changed our reservation without our consent and moved us from a room with two queen beds to a room with a king and a sofa sleeper. There were three adults in our party and no one wants to sleep on a sofa sleeper.
The hotel was fully booked and the front desk staff was rude. They did nothing to make our accommodations better. To top it off they brought king sized bedding for the small full-sized pull-out and just handed it all to my wife to make-up the bed.
When I advised that front desk that we were platinum members with IHG, the poorly-trained non-customer service from desk staff indicated that this was an award night. I believe that the whole purpose of the IHG awards program is to occasionally use award points for a room but that does not take away our platinum status.

The 2 queen beds in this room both had squeaky box springs and headboards. Any movement in the bed set up a noise guaranteed to wake up the user and probably the people next door. The room was clean and well kept.
The short-haired female manager (I don't know her name, and don't care to know) needs to learn who are the most important people in the world, and exactly how they are to be addressed. She is clearly not interested in solving problems, only making excuses which are not her fault. Just blame the other guests!
This was my third stay at this property - next time I will be looking at the competition.

Stayed at this hotel many time in the recent year. Each time, the staff was very friendly and helpful than most other hotels I stay at. Rooms seem to always be clean. Pool and Hot tub are never crowded and very clean. Exercise room seems a bit small however, can't get more than 2 people in there. There is no Microwave in the Breakfast area, which seems odd, running back to my room to heat up food/coffee is a slight annoyance.

I stay at this property often for my work. Again, I had a comfortable stay. If there is ever any question/concern the staff immediately assist. I stay at hotels about 3 weeks out of the month and at this location, the staff always strive to make me feel comfortable. I already have my return visit booked!

Room was clean, would have liked a refrigerator in room but that was extra $$. Continental breakfast was very good. Front desk very friendly, The biggest dissapointment was the pool, it was freezing cold. My 2 kids (5yr and 3yr) , who will swim most anytime, didn't want to go in pool. Really ruined our night as this is all the kids look forward too. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone with little kids who want to go swimming.

Stayed recently for a weekend soccer tournament and while I was not impressed, I was not disappointed. The hotel is starting to show some age. The pillows in our room where flat. The hotel was a little noisy due the kids running up and down the halls, but by 10:00 pm it had quieted down.

It was a good stay. Beds where on the firm side but not hard. (I like soft) Breakfast was ready early witch was a plus. Only real let down was No recognition for being a rewards member, but that's a small thing.

I really enjoyed the new pillows. They are very comfortable. As always, the staff was awesome, room clean and enjoyed my breakfast. I would recommend the stay for anyone and look forward to my next vist!

Friendly staff who make you feel welcome! Rooms are well kept and clean. The heating system needs to have a thermostat in order to regulate the temperature, rather then turning the dial and guessing the proposed temperature.

As always, I had a very nice stay at this property. I was recognized as platinum, room was ready and final bill ready and accurate. I travel so much for my work, it is comforting to return to the same location. The staff/management really make my stay as nice as possible. If there ever is any issue, they go above and beyond to immediately correct. Even when it is not their issue. I couldn't get my tablet working and a wonderful young lady at the desk came to my room and even fixed that!
Already have my room booked here for my next trip to town!

I'm not sure how this property got the 4.5 star rating. I felt that it was more of a 3 star property. There was nothing really wrong with it, but it was definitely a bit run down. I arrive early and my room wasn't ready so I went to have lunch and when I came back it was ready and I was able to check in. The girl at the front desk was very friendly and helpful and offered me two free drink tickets for later and either extra points or a snack pack. I got to my room on the second floor. It was just cleaned and seemed alright. I was in a king sized room with a little divider separating the sitting with a couch area from the bed. The thing that I didn't like about this was that it the tv was placed in front of the couch, so when I was in bed I had to turn at an angle and turn the tv at an angle to view it properly. The furniture in the room seemed fairly old and worn as well. There was a fridge/microwave in my room and the fridge made noise the entire time. Its a good thing I'm not a light sleeper, so it didn't bother me as much. The bed was fine, I was able to sleep in it without any problems. The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. They didn't have any scrambled eggs and the pancake machine was broken. I grabbed some coffee, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and cereal so I didn't go hungry. The location of this hotel is alright, there seemed to be quite a few businesses and restaurants in the area, but it is pretty far north of downtown. I would possibly stay here again in the future.

waterpipe broke and there at firts was only cold water and then no water. No shower available unless you went to another hotel.
I understand that pipes can freeze, but feel that management should have offered sometype of compensation.

I look for a place that's clean, has a descent bed and bedding and a good breakfast. Having owned and operated a B&B prior I know what a good breakfast is and a nice comfortable, clean room. This was not that. I didn't like the flimsy non-cotton sheets that seemed to slide around on a plastic or some sort of slick underneath - probably a plastic mattress protector. The pillows were too fat and thick but luckily I found one among the bunch one that was not too firm. The bathroom seemed to be clean though which I appreciated. Breakfast is just so-so but probably similar to most hotel food. I found the hard boiled eggs to be very good though and they did have a nice selection of yogurts. The breakfast area is located at the end of the hall when you walk in and is not a very appealing area. I will not go back.

We have stayed at this same hotel several times before, this time the mattress wasn't as nearly as comfortable as during previous stays, the room was clean and comfortable otherwise but we did notice one of the towels in the bathroom was looking a little ratty, otherwise everything was fine.
I would still stay there again, it's very conveniently located for us. I am not sure why the mattress in this particular room was different than during previous visits, but it was definitely not as comfortable as the mattresses during our our previous visits. It wasn't bad, just not as comfortable as at other stays in the same hotel.
I had requested a single king with sofa as we'd had at previous visits (we have family in the area who sometimes stop by to visit and it's convenient to have them stop over and have a place to sit) but this time we had a single king with a single chair, maybe that is why the difference in mattresses?
The staff went out of their way to be hospitable as in every visit we make to this hotel.
