Our stay started out troubled due to a "maintenance issue" that kept us from getting the type of room we booked. Somewhat understandable but we had a confirmed reservation and are Rewards Club members so a phone call explaining the situation and offering options would have been nice. I also had to go back to the front desk to inquire about the difference in room rates in order to have my bill adjusted.
This property is older and in need of some serious upgrading. To the staff's credit, they worked very hard to accommodate us over the next few days of our stay and seemed sincere in their efforts. The best of attitudes could not overcome the dated rooms and the wet-noodle beds. I could not get a good nights sleep over our three-night stay due to the flimsy mattress and pop-off sheets. The desk chair looked like a 70s reject with no lift and non-working wheels.
Great staff but an overall poor facility.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Downers Grove from Friday 7/4/14 thru Sunday, 7/6/14. We brought food with us in a cooler. There was no microwave or refrigerator in the room. Most Holiday Inn Express locations have that. There was a public microwave downstairs off the lobby and the front desk got us a refrigerator.
There was a family reunion going on both nights. These people were up most of the night banging doors, talking in the halls, using loud voices, shouting obscenities. On Saturday night, we called the front desk 3 or 4 times. Each time they told us they would speak to the people. The last time, they said they called the police. Anyway, we were up until about 3 in the morning.
This is not the first time I have stayed in a hotel with a family reunion or other large party going on. I strongly recommend that the hotel inform every member of a large group - WHEN THEY ARRIVE - that there are other people staying in the hotel that are not part of the group and they need to respect those individuals. If they do not, the police will be called. That might have alleviated the problem before it occurred.

I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Expresses and felt satisfied with the stay for what I spent. Not this time. The toilet did not work properly, and the room clearly needed a major cleaning from the previous occupants. Since we arrived late and were dog tired we made the best of it...too much hassle to change rooms, etc. Unfortunately, both mattresses were like sponges, and sleep was poor. Breakfast next morning was not up to the usual standard that most Holiday Inn Expresses offer. Staff did not acknowledge being a 'Rewards' member at check in. For what we spent (and this was more than we usually spend at a HIE) we were very disappointed, and will not stay there again!

The facility was clean and comfortable - very quiet even with the amount of children seen in the lobby during check in (all with parents!)
Very dog friendly and accomodating.
If I had anything not excellent - we were pulling a trailer during our stay - and the lot had just been seal coated, so no parking near-by - would have liked to know this in advance...and the carpet was spotless because it had just been cleaned - spotless but damp yet.
Overall - we will be back - great hotel!

I am Very disappointed with the housekeeping in this hotel. How can you leave rooms in those conditions and expect a guest to stay there. I checked into my first room only to find a pile of pet food on the floor next to the dresser not too hard to miss if you actually took care of the floor) also the hair shavings in the sink kind of grossed me out a little. My second room wasn't much better. Although I didn't have the pet snack on the floor, there were clothes tags and coffee stirrers all over the. I tolerated that.
I have several customers in the area and have been staying there for years. I would like to continue but with what I had seen my last two stays I am very disappointed. This hotel has gone downhill.

Can't say enough about Andrea, Latrice and Anthony. Our stay was
made easier because of their knowledge of the area and willingness to share some ideas about surrounding towns, transportation and winter conditions.

The customer service provided here was legendary! Overall nice place with outstanding service at a very fair price. No swimming pool is unfortunate and the TV's could be updated but short of that everything is great.
