We stayed at the HI express recently and found it generally exceeded expectations. Staff were very friendly and helpful and Shahid the duty manager was particularly professional.
Beware that even if you book rooms well in advance through a 3 rd party they are only allocated on the day. We ended up in a disabled room so plenty of room but difficulty in avoiding all the help alert cords. Also as we were ther for 2 nights. Housekeeping did not prioritise us and our room was not cleaned at all.
That was addressed readily but annoying.

Standard fare hotel, usual room furnishings, clean and tidy and a choice of about 17 different pillows for the bed. My one and only complaint was the price of a JD and coke at the bar. Over £6. This is ridiculous and had I knows the price before ordering, I would have given it a miss.

We stayed here for a Gig at the O2 which was perfect as it is just a short walk. The inclusive breakfast was quite nice (although no bacon?!) and the staff were friendly and helpul. The only down side is the parking charge of £7. Feel this is unneccessary as most hotels have a free car park for guests whereby they validate your ticket so you do not pay on your way out.

Made a last minute booking for this hotel when attending a music event at the Arena, and pleased with stay. The hotel is a short easy stroll from the Arena ( with good view back to it from the lobby) after the concert and so provided a simple comfortable and convenient way for a single traveller to complete a great evening. Double room with sofa bed was not very big, but had all the necessary amenities i.e a good shower and big TV and was clean, quiet and warm. Breakfast was simple but tasty, with plenty to eat and plenty of fresh fruit available in addition to cooked food & pastries. I stayed as a priority club member reward night, with no car - the underground connections are very good.

stayed over for Robbie Williams at the O2. Good location. Price was average - and what you expect for when an artist such as RW comes to town.
Breakfast was average - nothing to shout about but the room that I stayed in was spacious & clean.

This hotel is clean, nicely furnished and is what you expect from a Holiday Inn Express. When I checked in and ordered meals the staff were courteous and polite...however.... due to my own fault I left an expensive diamond ring in my room worth £1400. When I called the hotel once I realised, housekeeping had already been in the room and no ring had been found. It was left on the bed so it may have been caught up in the bedding and I understand that this was my fault, however, the staff were not interested at all. The way in whcih they treated my calls and my queries were as if I had left a haribo ring in the room. There was no concern and I am not even sure if someone fully checked as the level of ownership was to be desired.

Used this hotel to attend a concert at the O2. Excellent hotel for this purpose, good check in, room as requested and of good quality, ask for high floor for good views. Easy to walk to O2 venue only 20 mins stroll.
Breakfast buffet style so can pick the food. Check out efficient and quick. A very good hotel for the o2.

Rooms a little basic, but comfortable enough for their purpose. Great for its proximity to the O2 and the ATP World Tour Finals.
Priority Club Membership allowed later check-out and was much appreciated, as was the raffle on check-in. What a great promotion, nice to see something a little different.

Our 2nd time at HI Greenwich, both consistently very good. Why do we like it so much? We watch the tennis at the O2 Arena and travel from the North. Straight through the Blackwall tunnel and you are there with ample car parking at a reasonable fee per night. A 20 minute walk gets you to the O2 with a wealth of restaurants and other attractions that support the arena. Also the North Greenwich tube station for onward travel to London. The staff are friendly and efficient. There is a well stocked bar, comfortable lounge area with sky channels. The breakfast is buffet with a choice of fruit, cereal, continental and hot items, good quality and a good start to the day. The rooms are clean, comfortable with TV, tea and coffee facilities. Other than the O2, try other attractions in the area, the Cutty Sark, the Imperial War Museum or surprising Eltham Palace - a mix of medieval and art deco. Very happy to recommend this hotel, it is an entry level chain hotel but every thing it does it does well.

We had a really excellent service from all the staff there at Greenwich Holiday Inn Express. Clean room, super food.
The only drawback...the very loud and inconsiderate people in the middle of the night, gone midnight and later, who were obviously not able to read the signage advising people to be considerate and be quit when entering the halls with rooms.
Each night our young son was woken up with a start and found it difficult to get back to sleep, due to the people being loud. It literally went on for two to three hours!

The room was comfortable and cozy.
There was not much to choose from for breakfast, but the products were fresh and of good quality.
Free Internet on the lobby was sluggish... but free ;)
Well communicated: 10' to 15' walking to O2 Arena and London Metro. Frequent buses to Greenwich historical museums area.
A little expensive IMHO, but vicinity to O2 when you go for a concert pays off.

Have stayed at this hotel before when going to a show at the o2 as it's within walking distance. now with the emirates cab;e car, access to Excel across the river is also easy. will stay again when in the area.

Double glazing in the rooms at the back doesn't keep out the noise from the flyover at the back of the hotel. Internal sound-proofing seems to let more noise into the room from other guests than other hotels.
Map of Greenwich provided at reception doesn't include the hotel, so it was hard to find our way to the tourist attractions in Greenwich.
Hotel manager should try eating breakfast in the hotel - the aircon in the breakfast area is cold and blows too strongly.
I appreciate the Express hotels are more basic than other Holiday Inns, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect decent sound-proofing and a draught free breakfast area in this day and age.

We arrived at the hotel and had to wait 15 minutes till someone showed up at the desk and the three staff members were too busy serving the bar.
Service was very slow and not informative. Did not inform us that we needed to give a deposit to open phone line. When dialing front desk had to call three times and let it ring at lease 20 times each.
No address or number on the phone. No instructions for the phone on the phone. No answer at front desk not able to call out. What do you do in a medical emergency? Answer from front desk find the pamphlet in your room with instructions. I have never stayed in a hotel where there is no information on the phone itself.
Breakfast the food is not fresh or health. The over all buffet area and eating area were not clean. Watched the employee clean all tables with one cloth and nothing else. No spray or water. Did not clean the cloth once.

When we booked, our booking said that we could specify either a twin or a double room on arrival, but this was not the case. There were no double rooms available.
There was no iron and ironing board in the room, I had to go and get them myself from reception which highlighted a problem with the key card system. My husband and I were only provided with 1 key card which is required to both activate the lights in the room, and activate the lift keys, so when I had to go down to reception to get the iron and ironing board, I had to take the key card in order to operate the lift, but this left my husband in the room in the dark!! Not a great design.
We waited at the bar for nearly 20 minutes waiting to be served. The only other 2 people at the bar had to wait ages to be served, and after they had been, the barman just walked off without serving us. In the end we had to go to reception to ask to be served.
The bed wasn't very comfortable.
But on the up side - the loaction is brilliant for the O2 arena. Just a 10 minute walk away. Very convenient.

Stayed here as visiting the 02 arena which was a short walk away. I asked for the top floor NOT near a lift and got what we asked for. Staff were pleasent and helpfull breakfast was ok but not a great lover of powdered scrambled egg would have been nice to have had fried as well,apart from that there was enough to eat. The rooms were ok comfortable and clean but could be abit more generouse with the tea/coffee/sugar and milk so on the way back from 02 we stopped into the Tescos next door and bought a supply(if we do come back we'll bring our own).
Yes it was a good stay and would defenatly recommend it to our friends if visiting the 02

Went to the O2 to see a Rock band on the 1st October and arranged to stay here as so close to venue. Unfortunately a coach load of uncontrolled students destroyed my hopes of a restful night. Running amok till at least 2:30pm. Security guard said that he was trying "his best" to keep them quiet.........

We booked this hotel again as we have used it before when we've been to see concerts at the O2 and as a Priority member found it very convenient and good value for money. However, we were disappointed this time. On checking-in we had a bit of delay as we were advised there was a mix-up with our basic Double room booking which had been booked many months in advance. We were now going to be given a Wheelchair accessible room. Although we did not need this, that was ok by us. However, when we got to the room we discovered this meant no Bath, but a walk-in "wet room" type shower/toilet area. My husband and I had driven straight from work through London and were looking forward to a nice relaxing bath before our evening out together minus children etc, so we were a bit disappointed. Not wanting to make a fuss, we just decided to get on with our evening. On returning to our room late that night we were greeted by a still really soggy bathroom from earlier and what turned out to be a really lumpy bed. We managed to get off to sleep, but were soon rudely awoken 12.15am by loads of foreign students running up and down the hall on our floor, banging doors, shouting, screaming, in and out of each others' rooms and general mucking about. We asked them politely to be quiet but to no avail. We also heard other guests trying the same. Eventually, I rang down to reception to report this behaviour but it took a good hour before we heard any difference. Even then, we were re-awoken at 2am by more goings on. We flagged the situation again on checking out and the receptionist was unaware there had been any problem at all. Eventually, a senior member of staff did concede there had been an issue and apologised. By then though it was a bit late. I think the whole experience may have put us off now.

The room was quite small but had everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The hotel is very well situated for a visit to the O2 Arena (literally a ten minute walk). There was quite a lot of traffic noise as it's on a busy road. The only other negative is the breakfast choice is a bit limited, there wasn't even any bacon!

Actually failed to Service both our rooms whilst we were out during the day.
Returned to un-serviced rooms about 4pm, and then the maid had a strop when she arrived to do it (after a call to reception where no apology was offered), because we asked her to return in a hour, as we were getting changed to go out for the evening.
How can the system fail to allow two rooms to be serviced, this is basic hotel process ?
Reception staff seemed disinterested. Also allowed me to check out without providing my (paid for) car park exit ticket.
Could do better...

and the reception staff were extremely polite and helpful throughout the duration of the stay
also the security staff were excellent ...second to none on attentiveness and one of the best HI's security staff have come across and the security of hotel as a whole was brilliant

We chose to stay here as we know its proximity to the O2. Wifi still an issue connecting even in the free Wifi zone. No bacon at breakfast, reducing the choice of elements for a full english. Room adequate. Hotel clean. Some signs of general wear on seating in lounge areas. Staff were all very attentive and gave good customer service. Bar stock limited. No bitter, no amaretto, no tia maria. TV only operational on one side in the lounge area on our evening stay. Both sides were operational by breakfast.
