We stayed at the Newcastle HIE during a family trip to Hadrian's Wall Country. Location was excellent for the train; staff were friendly yet professional, and they quickly acknowledged our 6 year old adventurer. Our room was ready (with the sofa bed prepared) even though we arrived early, without advance notice of early check-in. Exactly what a HIE should be- and friendlier than some we have stayed in. Thanks, if going that way would NOT hesitate to book again.

Central location with car parking facility adjacent to the hotel that was not very expensive. Free wi-fi in room, friendly and helpful staff. Neat, comfortable and reasonably priced.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jimd53 Central location & good service
Needed accommodation close to Radio Arena. Seen some poor reviews about city centre hotels due to 'hen and stag' residents. No designated car park, but available one was next door to hotel, easy to find and only £5 for the night. Room was clean, quiet. Reception staff helpful and recommended a local place for a meal before going to the show - good food and reasonable price. Hotel 10 minutes walk from the city centre shops, station, Radio Arena.
Would certainly stay there again.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by vennel All good except wifi connection
Everything was as good as expectation. Only the point which was not good was the wifi internet connection. I had call to the call centre and it took over one hour before I could start to use wifi. I hope the hotel will adopt a better service like Holiday Inn Newcastle Jesmond. Smooth connection with wifi is very important to me.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Micheal2013 Great staff
We arrived early, and were allowed to leave our luggage while we went out for a while (having not yet checked in).
The staff did everything they could to help us log in (Iphone issue, not theirs!), and the laptop worked just fine.
We arrived on a bank holiday, so not much was open for dinner, but they helped us find what we were looking for.
Breakfast was warm and good - selection just what one would expect, nothing exciting but all very tasty.
Room was just what one expects from Holiday Inn: clean, functional, and certainly served our needs.
Finally, it is very close to the rail station (good), without any of the noise one might expect (very good).

All of the staff that we came into contact with were really helpful and were instrumental in making this family holiday one of the best we've had recently.
The hotel is well located for the local amenities and car parking is available next door at very reasonable rates.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Newtown Good hotel great location
Hotel was very nice and close to everything and only a two minute walk from the train station. The room was standard HIE. Top floor room meant that there was no noise from the traffic (or other guests). Breakfast again was standard HIE fare. Could be better but palatable enough. Bar prices were extortionate in relation to other places in the vacinity of the hotel. (almost double the price). Staff were friendly enough without being over zealous. Will definitely stay here again when in Newcastle.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night on a bank holiday, what a FABULOUS HOTEL, it is central to everything you need-food,shopping and a good night out in town. On arrival we were booked straight into our room with no waiting time the staff were so attentive and helpful a good geordie welcome by John,Lee,Lauren and Kimberley all a credit to the hotel.
The rooms were spotlessly clean everything you need for a good stay over, comfy beds and tea and coffee making facilities, a well looked after hotel with a good breakfast in the morning will definitely be coming back.

The hotel was a walking distance from the station. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we found security of the hotel well organised. We would strongly recommend this hotel to our friends. Although our room faced the main road we weren't disturbed by traffic noise. Hope to spend more time next visit.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sijtje pleasant stay
We enjoyed our stay, but were quite disturbed bij the large number of ambulances/policealarms!!!
Also found that the fold-out bed made the room very small - would have been better to have twin beds.
The double-action door in the bathroom was a nice surprise: really inventive!
We would have preferred to have an earlier check-in time.

excellent customer service, really forthcoming and helpful. clean room (a tad small for a tripple). surprisingly quiet for a busy stag/ hen hotel, but perfectly adequate for families too. very convenient for central station. special mention to staff member from Albuquerque (sorry, didnt get his name).

Nice spacious room with comfortable beds and well equipped bathroom. The staff was very friendly and a minor problem (faulty drainage of washbasin) quickly solved. Having the room available at an early hour was a pleasant extra.

Handy for town, perfect for the Metro Arena, well recommended.

This an excellent hotel to stay in the staff are friendly and helpful. When we arrived just after 2pm our room was not ready but the staff said we could leave our bags with them but we decided to wait in the lounge and have a drink which we didn't have to pay for because of the room situation.Once we got to the room we found it spotless along with the rest of the hotel. The location is ideal as its only a couple of minutes on foot from the centre of Newcastle and the train station. The lounge is good as well as we came in after a long day to sit and have a drink. My husband especially liked that there was sky sports and my son liked that there was free wifi so that he could go on his iPad.Overall the hotel was great and would go back when visiting Newcastle again. The only thing was the size of the room when a family of four stays in there it would be really cramped but as there was only the 3 of us it was fine.

My wife and i recently stayed at this hotel when we visited the city to see Simple Minds play at the City hall. We chose this hotel because it was cheaper than its main rivals for that night. The location is good for arriving from rail or road and we would stay here again next time we visit Newcastle.

This was a repeat stay at the HIE City Centre. We stayed there during a visit to Newcastle a couple of years ago and were pleased with our experience at that time, so decided to make a reservation there for this trip as well. The hotel staff were, as before, helpful and gracious, even making reservations for us at another HIE at a stop we decided to make at the last minute prior to returning to London. As before, our accommodations were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was substantial. Would definitely stay there again because of the central location, good value and excellent overall quality. Would also recommend without reservation.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by SwissTraveller Poor customer service & a bad night's sleep
We stayed in Room 509 recently and did not have a good night's sleep for two reasons:
1) Continuous noise. Despite having asked for a very quiet room when booking, there was a continuous humming noise throughout the night (a machine?) that led to us having a very distrurbed sleep. We were also disturbed by recurrent 'cracking' sounds (no idea of their origin).
2) Unsolicited wake-up call from hotel staff. To aggravate matters, we were woken just before 6 a.m. by a hotel staff member calling our room as a wake-up call that we had not requested - this was 2 hours earlier than we had intended to get up. No explanation or regrets were given by the hotel.
On top of this, the hotel demonstrated very poor customer service by not responding to the e-mail I sent afterwards to the Customer Feedback address (16 Feb.). Since Holiday Inn Express encourages customers to provide feedback, the least it could do would be to respond.

HIE City in the centre of Newcastle with the nearby car park free for overnight stop from 5pm to 8am. Great spot to take the opportunity to go on a journey of evening adventure to great restaurants nearby like Pinochio and Portofino. A warm relaxing Great Room with Free wifi

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tired13 Central location but avoid Fridays!
Great location - only a few minute from the train station and car hire depot. Other 'guests' - as the first question on check in was "are you part of a stag party?" it was obvious this hotel is popular with hen/stag parties - big downside was the large intimidating all male groups on stag parties dominating the bar/restaurant area and the shouting and screaming female 'guests' running a drunken rampage in the corridor outside my room at 0200 hours, 0345 hours and 0600 hours. A lack of sleep may suit the party guests but means I will unlikely book again for business travel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Paolo1982 A nice hotel
The hotel is very nice. The room is wide, clean and comfortable.
The staff is very helpful and accommodating.
Some bad things:
1) A little noise coming from the light in the room (it was probably due to electrocute of a bulb)
2) The internet access in the room fee (£ 10 for 24 hours). But you can stay in the lobby where there is a bar open 24 hours and free wi-fi

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Becsy Cheap, clean and comfortable
I wanted somewhere for myself and my 3 children to stay in Central Newcastle that would be cheap, clean and comfortable. This hotel fitted the criteria and we weren't disappointed. It is very close to the Station even if we nearly walked past it (no map at the time!). To have breakfast included was a bonus and we all had sufficient to eat on both days.

This was our overnight base for a midweek stay. The location was excellent and within walking distance for all local services including St James Park, the shops and the local museums.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful, friendly or accomodating. We would definitely stay there again.
