Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hotel Our stay was exceptional beginning with the front desk. Clerks were very nice and helpful in trying to get a room that would accommodate, ie shower bars. Hospitality was excellent invited us in to relax until our room was ready. On the way to the room met maid service in hallway by our room who was very friendly, eventhough; she was busy cleaning rooms. Rooms were very clean. Excellent location ie restaurants, pharmacies, groceries. October 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location to Wills Eye Center We had to make an emergency visit to Wills Eye Center. This hotel was one of the closest. The hotel décor was dated however the staff were great and the rooms were comfortable. We found it easiest to sleep if the air conditioner or fan was running to drown out the noise from the streets below. Being from the country, we aren't used to hearing sirens frequently through the night (Jefferson Hospital emergency is about 4 blocks away) and the fan served as white noise. The breakfast was on par with most other hotels that offer it. The biggest criticism was that the Wi Fi was incredibly slow and we would keep losing reception - mostly during the evening when everyone else was on it. The hotel could not be beat however, for proximity to the hospital and the discount given for patients was great and very helpful when you aren't there for a vacation. October 20, 2013

Calling the hotel for help, Terri stayed on the phone with us (even though it was time for her to go off shift) until she was able to figure out where in the world we were and guide us safely to HIE. We have always found staff at HIE very friendly and accommodating! HIE is always where we will go!!! October 20, 2013

The room was nice, the price was fair and the service was good ,but we were not happy with the parking situation. When I was parking my car I was approached by a worker in the parking garage that made me feel very uncomfortable.I was not explained by the holiday inn front desk clerk that I would be approached while parking my car that there was valet parking.The worker asked for my keys and wasnt friendly about taking my keys to park the car. He never explained to me what he was doing but told me that I had to be out of there by 2:00 after the front desk clerk told me 3:30.This made my wife and me very nervous about our stay. Thamk god I had a valet set of keys that came with my car.This would make me think twice about staying there again. October 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyed our stay The room was a good size and included a microwave and refrigerator. It was very clean and quiet even though we were right next to the elevators. Never heard a sound. The staff was great! They were friendly, accomodating, and helpful. The breakfast was good, and the breakfast staff was very courteous and helpful. There is no restaurant, bar or gift shop in the hotel, but the location is so good, it wasn't an issue. There are several nice restaurants and bars within walking distance as well as a walgreens and grocery stores. There are fast food places nearby too. We walked everywhere! (even though the national parks and sites were closed. ) Highly recommended! October 18, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly recommend We stayed recently and we would highly recommend it. It was within easy walking distance of downtown and attractions. We took a tour bus of the other, out of town attractions, and that was only a couple of blocks away. The room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was very good indeed. Lots of choice and plenty of it. All of the staff were great , but I would like to make a special mention of Katherine in the breakfast room, she is such a nice person and could not of been more helpful and welcoming to us. She got us maps and told us about a fantastic Farmer's type market in town, which we would not have found otherwise. We will definitely be returning to Philly in the near future and staying at this great Holiday Inn. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so comfortable and for being so welcoming. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Busy spot but quiet and comfortable Arrived during some yearly crazy festival held behind the hotel but we really didn't hear the noise outside. The staff was great. We arrived with two babies and the service was quick and efficient and they were so helpful with directions to restaurants we could walk to. I would definitely stay again when we are in the area. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by We stay here every time we visit Philly Overall, it's a decent hotel in a great location, so we stay here every time we visit Philly. The toilet paper is horrendous though, so I just started bringing a roll from home. My husband LOVES the cinnamon rolls, so I have to eat breakfast there in the morning, so I usually go with the re-heated, processed omelets and rubber pancakes from the conveyor belt machine, but this last stay the pancake machine was even broken, so I didn't get much to eat. They recently started advertising "healthier choices" showing a bowl of oatmeal adorning fruit on top, but when you get there, the oatmeal is just those instant Quaker cups. They do usually have bananas, but it might be better if they offered a little more in the way of fresh fruit, like maybe a mix with sliced melon, cantaloupe, grapes, etc. October 8, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice, but room for Improvement A number of positive points: one of the best breakfasts that I have had in an Express. It had a great range, was fresh and plentiful. Also, the staff was excellent (especially the 2 trainees that were there). Not so good was the entryway (thru a parking garage); the noise in the area; the elevators took long as te cleaning staff was using it a lot. Also, its uplesant when they tae the dirty ad smelly laundry in the elevator when guests are in. October 8, 2013

Once again, we made our monthly trek from Connecticut to Philadelphia for our 7 yr old son's visit to the Wills Eye Center, battling the NJ Tpk and Garden State traffic. We thought that once summer was over and the beach traffic was finished, we would make our way quickly and even considered doing the trip in a day vs. spending the money to stay overnight, missing work and pulling our son out of school. How wrong we were! After a long, tiring drive, we were so happy to see Walnut St. and the Holiday Inn Express sign in neon green ahead of us and pulled in. It felt like home! We were greeted with a big smile by Grace who provided this weary traveler with a treat bag for our son with cupcakes (thanks, Grace - that sugar rush was "wonderful".....# and bottles of water. She gave us terrific ideas for dinner as well and we explored a few different options. We made our way to our room which had a fabulous view of the City and after finding a terrific pizza restaurant and checking out the neat little stores, we crashed for the night. Breakfast, as always, was delicious, and our son lives for the pancake machine! Both Lori and Catherine were true hostesses and especially kind; they are definitely focused on their customers and it's clear they enjoy what they do. One guest was a bit demanding about the coffee not being brewed quickly enough and I had to remind him to be a bit more kind and slow down. Living a town away from Sandy Hook, CT, I reminded him that his cup of coffee was coming, and he should remember that kindness goes a long way. While I usually keep my mouth shut, I don't particularly care for anyone in guest services to be reprimanded, especially over something as petty as a 5-minute delay in coffee. There will always be one person in every group and I will not tolerate--esp. being in the service industry myself---disrespect to anyone, and both Lori and Catherine deserve better. Each time we've visited, we've gotten to know the staff and everyone has gone out of their way to treat us special. It's especially important for us, since our visit revolves around our son, who recently went through a drastic surgery and we are on pins and needles every time we go to an appointment. We also enjoyed meeting Sanh, your maintenance man, on this visit, who, while I was working on the computer, visited with me and let me know about what he did at Holiday Inn and how much he enjoyed his job with the company. It was clear by the smile on his face and the pride in how he spoke of his management team. I am sorry I was unable to meet Joanne on this visit as I had received a letter from her on our previous visit. I had asked for her on several occasions but she had been in meetings so I am hoping on my next trip to introduce myself to her and thank her personally. I had mentioned in a previous survey that as a customer service manager of a 300+ person call center and a corporate trainer, it's hard to find good people. Anyone can learn the mechanics of a job, but it takes grace under pressure to stand behind a desk with a line of people, some being not-so-kind in your face, and continue being professional. All of the girls---and I wasn't able to get their names #apologies# at the desk, went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. We will be back in December for our next doctor visit and look forward to seeing you all again. Thank you, keep up the great work and Happy Thanksgiving to you all. October 6, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by What you would expect from Express We stayed over a normal weekend. Reserved a Double Queen room. Gov Rate. The location was great. Parking was connected to the hotel and very reasonably priced. We walked everywhere went in the city. There is a lot of good food and bars within 5 minutes. Metro station was near by but did not use. The staff was very friendly and helpful when requested. The room was very large and had a great view. Very clean as well. My only negative I have about this particular Express (or maybe it was just my room) but it did not have the usual mini-fridge in it. I always count on those when I stay there. Other than that, great place. I will be coming back in NOV to stay again. October 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff, Great location I recently stayed in Philadelphia for the first time and chose the Holiday Inn Express because it was close to where I was doing business. The convenience of the location was outstanding, many options for food and entertainment within a short walk. The hotel did not have its own fitness room, but had an agreement with a full gym just around the corner that had all the cardio and weight equipment that anyone could need. Much better than the typical hotel fitness facility. What was most impressive was the staff friendliness, especially the housekeeping and maintenance people. Everyone I walked past made eye contact and said hello to me. That's the sign of great management - if the little things are working, you know the big things are as well. Great job to all. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by INTERNET My stay was for 12 days. Upon booking I did not ask for a fridge and microwave, but did not think I had to since my stay was so long. Eventually they upgraded me to the fridge and microwave. I figured if one is staying so long, I would think one would have the comfort needed. Next, their internet really is very bad. In today's world one would think everyone would have their internet working at 100%. The staff was very friendly, which is very important. The front desk staff all knew my name, and that really helped a lot. The other staff was friendly also. The only other problem I found, was that some of the staff which cleans your room, did not do a great job. Other wise everything else was good. I will stay there again, but the next time will ask for what I need. I will also ask about their internet first. September 30, 2013

Every single associate that you walked by greeted you with a smile and a conversation. The Housekeeper on my floor (18) greeted me every morning. Every time she heard a door open, she stopped what she was doing, peeked her head out and said good morning to the guest. It set the tone for my day. Every time she saw me, she asked if I needed anything. The Front Office Team was always eager to help. I used this hotel as an example, to my team, of exceptional customer service. Thank you! This hotel is very convenient to the HSP and gives a small discount for scholars doing work there. Staff in housekeeping and breakfast always asked if everything was OK or if they could get me anything. There is a great coffee place nearby, Cafe Twelve, on 12th Street. September 23, 2013

Emily at the front desk needs to smile more, but other than that the staff was TERRIFIC including the sweet General Manager Joanne.
