This atmosphere of friendly courteousness shined all the way through to the next morning with the cleaning staff and the attendant at the breakfast bar. I wasn't aware of how nice the surrounding area was until the next morning when I could see the landscape of the grounds, which was very professionally kept. November 17, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent place to stay! My husband and I pass through Raton every year on our way to Hamilton, Colorado hunting. We discovered this hotel about three years ago and agree that this is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed at! The hotel lobby and rooms are very clean and relaxing; the staff are some of the friendliest people I have ever met at a hotel; and the breakfast is just wonderful! Twice we have asked for a standard king room and due to none available they have upgraded us to a king suite at no extra charge instead of putting us in a room with double beds; and let me tell you they were EXTREMELY nice! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nicest Holiday Inn Express Ever I travel for business, and I stay in a lot of Holiday Inn Express hotels because I know they're going to be clean and in working order, but this particular hotel goes far beyond that. The rooms are always spotless, the staff is great, and there's always been a little fridge in the room (some of the other hotels don't have that feature, I recently discovered). I'm not going to judge any hotel on the quality of their beds; you can't please everyone so there's no right answer, but I usually get a good night's sleep in Raton. The "Manager's Reception" in the evening is a nice touch; a lot of the HIE hotels have cookies or something at night, but this one usually has soup, chips and salsa, cheese and veggies AND the cookies, which I really appreciate some nights.
