I stay at the property numerous times per month. The rooms are clean, the staff is welcoming, and the location is perfect for my business travel. Love this property.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Big Robin Excellent service, comfortable bed, great food
I was truly impressed with the excellent service, the staff was wonderful, and very nice. I slept like a baby, I really did not want to get out of bed and go to my daughters graduation. That's how comfortable the bed was, and I have a bad back, but my back didn't hurt when I got out of bed. I will be changing my mattress at home. I really enjoyed the variety of breakfast food. I had the biscuit and gravy for breakfast. My niece had pancakes and sausage. My daughter had eggs bacon, and toast.
Big thank you to the whole staff!!!!!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Vandal Alum Level of Service Could be Improved During Busy Weekend Area Events
I have stayed at MANY Holiday Inn Expresses in the U.S. and abroad, and I must say that this venue did not impress me. It was not horrible; it was just not up to the standard I expect. My family stayed for Virginia Tech grad weekend...as were most of the guests at the hotel. Because of the distance from Blacksburg, most guests needed to eat breakfast quickly and get on the road early, however breakfast was not out on time and there was only one person preparing the breakfast items. Additionally, I had two reservations, and one of the rooms was not ready at check-in. Another symptom of poor management planning.
The hotel was already raising their rates significantly because of the graduation (I expect this, and I understand this a common business model...I don't mind). However, if they are going to take in extra money and have a full hotel, then I expect the hotel management appropriately anticipate, step up their game, and be prepared to deliver the service they are supposed to provide. My wife mentioned this to the front desk, and she was treated in a dismissive manner by the staff. All around, I'd consider this a poor level of customer service.
Recommendation: If you are going to visit Virginia Tech for a game weekend or graduation events, I would not recommend this particular Holiday Inn Express (HIE). It is not head and shoulders above other hotels in the area. There are many HIE's located in the Roanoke and Blacksburg area. Consider one of them instead.

I arrived later than I had planned, but my room was waiting for me. The staff were very nice and polite. I had a great room on ground level near the lobby. There was no noise; the room was comfortable
