Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Stay! I had an outstanding three-night stay at this hotel. A fairly new hotel (for hotel standards) or just in outstanding upkeep. Clean rooms. Good value for the price, beautiful indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Excellent free morning breakfast with much variety. Free internet in room. Free newspaper (both local and USA Today). Free parking. There's an exercise room. Close enough to Monterey (only 30 minutes away). Being a IHG Platinum Elite level, I received a free upgraded room. A truly wonderful experience. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bed not comfortable, Hotel very noisy, 1st staff encountered rude Bed was not very comfortable, I would recommend they install memory foam toppers! Pillows were very nice though. I could hear people in the other rooms and in the hall. It was very noisy and disruptive. Overall; I did not sleep well at all. The thermostat on the wall did not function in connection with the A/C Unit, I had to manually open the A/C Unit panel and operate it there. Fan would not turn off automatically during the night once the desired temperature was reached. I had to get up multiple times during the night to turn it on and off. We reserved our room under a group rate. When we called to book the room we were made to feel as if they did not want to give us the discounted group rate and the person on the phone acted as if we should feel guilty about the discount. When we arrived to check in, (9:00pm) the front desk person was on the phone with another staff member who was helping her with the computer. At no point did she acknowledge me or ask me to wait, she just continued to talk on the phone for 10 minutes making me wait. I was the only person in the lobby. Very poor customer service! Once she did help me it only took 60 seconds. June 25, 2014

The room we got was in an excellent condition, very clean and well furnished. We had a very comfortable/effective sleep, even just a few hours but felt fully recovered. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It what I wanted and needed in a hotel. My daughter and I were in town for her softball tournament at the Salinas Sports Complex. We needed a place to relax, get cleaned up, sleep, and get a quick breakfast. The Holiday Inn Express was all of that. The room was clean and well kept, and being that I needed to get her some early rest and in being the middle of June, I really appreciated the curtains that allowed me to darken the room to spite the late evening sun. We also appreciated the DirectTV in the room, allowing me to find appropriate options for some TV time, and the in-room refrigerator allowed us to chill her Gatorades for the next day. Finally, the coffee they served with the complimentary breakfast was delicious. I asked, and the server allowed me to fill my thermos on the way out. The hotel is not fancy, but it was reasonably priced and was everything that I need a hotel to be. June 18, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel needs TLC I have stayed at other establishments and have experienced less problems than I did with my stay at this location in Salinas, CA. Even though the price was right, the hotel room itself needed some attention. The door lock / key card system rarely worked when it was supposed to which would force me to repeatedly enter my key card before the system would let me in. Beyond frustrating. The drapes did not allow for any privacy and allowed too much sunlight / external lighting into the room. The refrigerator was worthless and did not cool down anything and it also leaked from the bottom. The shower head just slumped and could not be adjusted to suit my needs. It was very effective in making a mess in the bathroom though. June 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delightful experience This Holiday Inn Express had everything we look for in a hotel - easily accessible from the interstate; located in a safe and quiet area; adequately close to many restaurants; comfortable beds; spacious rooms; quiet; excellent staff and a very good place with sidewalks for my morning walk .Breakfast is not a requirement since we usually only have coffee and muffins. But it was abundantly delicious. Several days after our stay I discovered that I left a new golf shirt in the room. When I called they said it had been turned in along with an iPhone charger, which wasn't ours, and they would Fed Ex it. I mention this because as much as we've traveled over the years, we've left numerous items at different hotels only to call and be told they couldn't find the item. We had our granddaughter with us and woke up the next morning and watched as broccoli was harvested in a field near the hotel. This was most interesting. June 14, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent place to stay. Good value for the money. Not a 5 star hotel, but a decent place to stay for the price. Morning breakfast was about par for what you would normally get. No unexpected bad surprises. Housekeeping saved my butt; I was in a rush to leave the room and the lady handed me my phone charger (which I would have forgotten). And then as I was half way down the hallway, she came running up to me with my suit bag! What an angel! The only downside to this hotel is that my business was on the other side of the freeway and the route was a little longer because there was not directly route across the freeway. But that's a small matter that didn't impact where I was to stay. Another small matter is I had a hard time figuring out how to get the channels on the TV. They have Direct TV and since I don't have cable it was a little difficult for me to navigate through the screens. But that's my fault and not the hotel's. There is a McDonalds and an In-N-Out Burger just down the block for all you hungry folks. I would stay there again. June 11, 2014

The only thing I can complain about is with their direct TV we could not get the SF Giants baseball game. Lots of hot water in the shower, Clean and smelled clean, as new not a chemical cover-up. All areas of the hotel were nice, from the carpeting to the wall lighting, etc. Breakfast was in a nice area. Food selection was good and well cooked and presented for use. Staff kept it clean and stocked.. June 3, 2014

However, if needing to use the sofa-pull-out as a bed, be aware that the mattress is very thin, and the springs and fold-bar is uncomfortable throughout the night. Ask for an extra blanket or foam-roll to place under the bottom sheet for padding. The greeting clerk gave us a strong recommendation for a local dinner restaurant, but when we arrived, the wait was more than one hour. We ended up eating at a nearby restaurant that was mediocre. Ask the clerk whether you need to make a reservation at the most popular restaurant in town. June 2, 2014

I didn't call the front desk although I should have. I had a 7:30 am bike race and felt like junk when I got up. I finished 21st out of 381 racers - with a better nights sleep who knows....... Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Polite but unfriendly. Paul Paul Paul... you were polite but extremely rude and dismissive. You gave us the wrong directions to a dinner location and we had to stop and ask someone on the street who was much more acquainted with the area and much more helpful. This hotel has gone down hill. Everytime we asked for assistance with something Paul was polite and continually told us when breakfast was served and then quickly went back to his computer. Too fast of check in didn't even truly welcome us or acknowledge our priority club membership. March 17, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bad initial experience on check in and room change I did not want This was the first time I have stayed at the Salinas property and not been completely satisfied with my stay. I arrived at the property at 2:20 pm from Sacramento only to be told by the front desk clerk my room would not be ready for 40 minutes. She said she could change my room to the first floor room 101. I am a woman traveling alone and never stay on the first level, but I was tired and had a headache and just wanted to rest after my trip. Initially upon arriving at the check in counter the clerk seemed annoyed that she had to take out her headphones to help me and was in no hurry to do so. She was not friendly. I also noted some other guests who appeared to be waiting in the seating area by the lobby waiting for their room to be ready also. I do not believe the room was not ready I think she just did not want to allow anyone to check in earlier than the 3pm check in time. I have never experienced that at any of the places I stay. Additionally, as I was walking in I saw three of the housekeeping staff leaving for the day. The lobby and flooring in the hallway to room 101 were filthy. The floors looked like they had not been mopped or vacuumed for the entire weekend. The next morning before 9:00 am a different front desk staff member vacuumed the flooring. At 9:30 housekeeping was knocking on my door to come in to clean the room. I find it especially irritating that I could not check in 40 minutes early, but an hour and half before checkout time someone was disturbing me to clean the room. March 14, 2014

We loved the indoor pool and convenience of breakfast on site and a suite for our family with two kids. Downsides - could have been cleaner and the sofa bed was in terrible condition. January 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing room! We decided to try out Holiday Inn Express after having a bad experience with another hotel close by a few months ago. We booked two nights 10 days in advanced which saved us some money. The price was a steal, so I didn't expect much. The place turned out to be beautiful, staff was amazing, the room was huge and very modern. We loved the continental breakfast and the kids enjoyed some free space to run in the room. Pool, hot tub, and gym looked great, but we stayed on Christmas and didn't have much time to check it out. We visit Salinas often and for ten dollars more, we will defiantly be staying here every time. Very impressed! December 29, 2013
