Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not totally satisfied I am a priority club member and stay almost exclusively at Holiday Inns because of their consistency and value. This place in Shelbyville was not cconsistent. The front desk girl was very nice and made check in a fun experience. That's the good part. Our key wouldn't work on our room because they were in the process of changing lock sets so we had to have another room assigned. The 2nd room was a handycap suite. 2 of the 4 lights in the bathroom were burned out. We had the individual packets of coffee but no coffee maker. When we pulled out the sofa sleeper there was no bedding in the room for it. We called the front desk twice before we could get bedding delivered. In the morning at the breakfast area they had the same girl running the check in desk and setting out the food. She was not doing a very good job with the breakfast bar as many things were very low on food or empty. Probably not her fault, just not able to do both jobs. This place was, in my opinion, below standard and not what Holiday Inns would want to represent their chain of Hotels. And for this below standard hotel we paid a fairly premium price. July 28, 2014

It is only a mile from my house but we chose to stay there one night as they were going to put a new roof on my house beginning at 6 AM the next morning. My new IMH membership advertises late checkout...which to me means late checkout. They extended it from 11 AM to Noon, even though I asked for 2 PM so my sick wife didn't have to go home to listen to hammering. That part of my stay disappointed me. Many places have noon checkout anyway so I didn't view noon as really much benefit. July 22, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by way to smoky mountains stop The hotel was very nice inside and out, nice clean guest rooms, lots of outlets, comfy bed. Breakfast was very good with a varity of food, Eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, muffins, yogart, juices, coffee, and more. Also after eating breakfast and getting ready to leave our car would not start. But thanks to staff member TURSA. , who lent us her jumper cables, and found someone to jump our car, we were able to continue our trip with little delay, so thank you TURSA for going above and beyond for us, July 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very friendly staff and comfortable bed Hotel could use a little updating but it was clean and that's what matters to us. We couldn't get internet connection in our room. Sometimes if we went out into the hall, it would connect but lose service as soon as we went back in our room. We asked the attendant before we checked out if we could get some extra points or something and she said she would checking into it since we couldn't get internet service. The staff at check in and check out were very friendly and helpful. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel. June 27, 2014

The room was excellent with the only complaint I could have was that the window curtain did not close properly. I think it may have been off the track, I'm not sure. June 27, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by management in need of much improvement Having stayed at the Moorhead KY property on our journery westward and been positively impressed, we were disappointed in the Shelbyville, KY HI Express where we stayed on the return leg of our trip. There was a serious backlog at the check in desk with a person in training, the room keys were not working and there were multiple people at the front desk getting replacement keys. The desk was unattended in the morning. The ice machine on the 2nd floor had obviously not been working for some time and was completely dry. The stairwell to the parking lot was in need of a good cleaning. The room had been superficially cleaned but not up to an adequate standard. The breakfast was marginal with watery scrambled eggs, stale biscuits and underdone greasy bacon. The cleanliness of the breakfast area was very poor. The lid to the trash container was coated with grease and dried food and obviously had not been cleaned or emptied for some time. Management is either asleep or indifferent to the standards I expect of the HI brand. June 25, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best room We stayed in a King Suite Bedroom and even though I heard the front desk person tell someone on the phone all the rooms had recently been renovated and were very nice I didn't experience that in my room. First impression of the room seemed that no one had been in it for a long time. It was dusty, the sofa looked quite old (and not inviting for our kids to sleep on the sofa bed), the carpet was very outdated, but the worst part it was very hot and our biggest issue is that even turning the outdated wall air conditioner on full blast it never cooled the entire room down. The fridge wouldn't get cold either and when we emptied it in the morning discovered all our drinks were warm, not cold. We also were very disappointed in the breakfast provided. In terms of comparison to other Holiday Inn Express the setup was similar but the hot food was not comparable in taste to other Holiday Inn Expresses. More concerning were apples left out that had dark spots on the outside and some items were just simply too old to be out. The cereal was stale as if it had been left out for eating way too long and our kids tasted the blueberry muffins and said they didn't taste good so we threw away. I've never seen a blueberry muffin my kids didn't like so I assume it was old as well. I wouldn't recommend this location. June 20, 2014

They still came in my room and cleaned, made my bed, and shut off the air. There also was no sign's for the door like other HI that I have stayed in. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Needs work Needs better maintenance. Light fixture in my bathroom had 3 different size and three different wattage bulbs. Side entrances do not work even with card key. They say it's for security but they worked a year ago, broke during a nice storm and they simply don't want to pay to repair them. So you have too walk around to the one main entrance May 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A fine place for a night Every year the Louisville National MS Society Branch hosts a cycling fundraiser that starts in Shelbyville, KY. My friends and I stay at this Holiday Inn because it is a decent place and close to the starting location of the ride. Last year I had no problems but this year two problems arose which led to only a fair night's sleep: first, there were no drapes on our windows so we could not shut out the street light shining in, and second, the pillows were too big and uncomfortable. I will come back next year though and bring my own pillow and ask for a room that either has draperies or away from the street lights. May 20, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by One night stay while traveling through I have always liked Holiday Inn Express Hotels until this one. I was assigned a room with unchanged bed sheets. It had a lock falling off the door. I asked for another room and was upgraded to a suite across the hall. This room had hair on the bathroom floor. The privacy curtains were ripped and torn and didn't cover the window. The bed and pillows smelled bad. There is a serious housekeeping problem at this property. April 2, 2014

The Front Desk was wonderful to work with -- professional and courteous. The rooms are clean although the bathrooms could use some updating of faucets, tile and toilets. Bed was comfortable and the variety of pillows allowed me to find one that was soft enough to use. March 20, 2014

The linens and towels could use some updating as they are looking rather worn. Our bathroom floor needed some repair as grout was missing from floor tiles -- however, bathroom was clean and that is a plus in my book. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Inexpensive, but looking worn. I have stayed at this hotel for the past 13 years. The hotel is a great deal for the money spent. However, when it snows, the parking lot should get plowed. When asked, the front desk associate stated "The owners don't spend money on that." Additionally, attention to detail is on a downward trend. The bath linens are showing significant wear. The cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling in the sleeping area could easily be removed.
