Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good size comfortable room The room was an excellent size for myself and my 8 month old twins - the 2 travel cots fitted in there perfectly and there was also plenty of room for the double buggy. The corridors were also very spacious which was great with the buggy and the free parking was also a bonus. The only downside from my point of view was that there was no restaurant as such (just a bar food menu at restaurant prices) and the portions were quite small. I come to Southampton on a regular basis and normally stay at another well known brand of hotel - which also has comfortable rooms which accommodate us all, (not quite as spacious and neither are the corridors, and you have to pay for the parking) but has a restaurant which is very good. It's a tricky one, but taking all into account with my circumstances, I would have to say the other hotel would be my choice in the future. August 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good overall I recently stayed in this Holiday Inn with my 3 year old son for a trip to Peppa Pig World. We had a room with a double bed and a double sofa bed. The room was well decorated, well maintained and very clean. Yes, the room didn't get a lot of sunlight, but we were there only to sleep and shower so that wasn't a problem! It was also in a very quiet position, so we couldn't hear any noise from the motorway, car park or bar which is perfect when you have a young child. The selection at breakfast was adequate and refilled regularly and it was easy to get a table - we went for breakfast at 8.40 every day and had no problems with selection of food or finding a table. The staff at breakfast I thought were particularly good. The only downside was that there was only a shower in the bathroom which I wasn't aware of: thankfully my three year old was quite happy to use the shower so it wasn't a problem at all, but if you had a young baby you may find that a problem. I bought a few drinks from the bar which were reasonably priced, although if you want a soft drink it is cheaper to go to the vending machine opposite the lifts! The location of the hotel is great - there are some retail parks nearby with eateries like Pizza Hut and McDonalds which is where we ate for dinner and opposite that retail park is another one with M&S and Sainsburys on which is where we bought sandwiches to take for our picnic at Peppa Pig World! Obviously with such a variety of eateries close by I didn't sample the hotel's restaurant. All in all an excellent stay for us - highly recommended. August 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for Stayed for 1 night only. Got room for great price which included breakfast. Only drawback was no air con in the room. It was quite hot at night had to keep the window open as their was not even fan in the room. Hotel staff is quite friendly. Breakfast was good. Overall ok experience. 4* being bit generous. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay Clean comfortable hotel. Breakfast suited our needs. Close proximity to some well known fast food eateries which is handy when travelling with kids. Booked to visit Peppa Pig World which is only a 20 min drive away. Excellent value for money. Only downside is none of us had any mobile network coverage anywhere in the hotel! August 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by clean, comfortable, friendly and welcoming. only passing through but the facilities and welcome were excellent. August 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed After a long delay the reception staff were great. Room was perfect and an all round excellent stay August 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Adjoining rooms were a bonus Lovely hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a double and twin room and the adjoining door was really useful as we stayed with two teenage children. Although it was a warm night the room was cool and we slept well. Breakfast was good with a good variety and well stocked even though the restaurant was busy. The only downside was no bath in the room but next time we would ask for a room with a bath. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by disappointed platinum We made this reservation for our pre-cruise for 2 nites so we could see some of so Hampton. When we arrived and found out how far we were from everything we wanted to find a closer hotel. The staff would not let us out of or reservation that nite and told us if we wanted other hotels we had to call uk priority but they would not do anything to help us. We ask do you have a phone we could us, they said yes and it is in your room and you will be charged for the calls. we did leave the next day and went to the holiday inn at so Hampton right next to the cruise port and all of the old historical sights of old town. Im sorry that you have this staff in your organization, it certainly isn't typical IHG, August 8, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room was lacking, staff very efficient and helpful Room was quite small for four people, only one double and one sofa bed so children had to share, and the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable, others within this price range have a double, one single and a single sofa bed. We arrived in the heat wave and rooms did not have any cooling system and as room was on the second floor the window only opened a few inches hence not a very good nights sleep. Although room was clean and tidy it had been set out with only two cups and three towels yet the booking was for four occupants!! Staff were very efficient and helpful and all problems were easily rectified but first impression was that it showed a lack of attention to detail. Breakfast selection was of a good standard and extremely varied, evening meal was average and quite expensive for what you actually received. August 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Place to Stay This is a great hotel to stay at , made very welcome , staff very polite , , good choice of meals from the bar and great breakfast . Bed comfortable , room very good size just needed air con as it was hottest day of year when I went so room felt stuffy . Would stay again A+++++ August 7, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient to Airport Much as you expect from any Holiday Inn Express, the bar was popular although we didn't use it so something worked. Room is functional but no air conditioning which as it was extremely hot was disappointing. The hotel is right on top of the Rose Bowl or now Aegeas Bowl, home to Hampshire Cricket Club. As there was a match on, it was extremely noisy as we had to have the windoww open, both during and after the game as people trailed back and were pretty vocal. If you need somewhere to put your head for a night near Southampton Airport with a reasonable breakfast, it does the job nicely. August 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great value for money Ticked all the boxes for a short break whilst attending wedding nearby. Accomodation was clean and comfortable and breakfast was good although hot food choice was limited but given it was 'complimentary' couldn't grumble. August 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great We had a family room. Very spacious and comfortable. You had a good choice of breakfast. Pleased with the price and for an overnight stay i would recommend it. August 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Busy and efficient breakfast. Very busy hotel, well managed- especially the competence of the breakfast staff has to be commended. Very clean hotel with spotless public areas and room. Comfortable room furniture and functional bathroom. On the downside can be extremely hot with no ventilation as windos will only open 1 inch and no fans or air con! August 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Clean Bedroom Room Good, Car parking good, easy access to M27, only issue is buffet breakfast gets busy. August 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean rooms, very helpful and friendly staff Excellent location, rooms were very clean and everything as requested-sofa bed already made up for our little girl and travel cot all assembled ready for our baby boy.Reception staff were polite and very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our small children.Would recommend to others, especially if visiting paultons theme park and peppa pig world. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and excellent service Had the double room with excellent service by the staff, will recommend this hotel to anyone... The room was hot due to hot weather, no AC in the room but overal stay was good. August 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It was OK I usually love the Holiday Inn but this one was a little disappointing. The room was very hot and we had to have the window open, but there was awful noise from air conditioning/ refrigeration units below the windows. Limited choice for breakfast...no veggie options and when I asked for bacon for my son I was told this isn't offered on a weekend??? I was disappointed with this stay. August 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay We stayed for three nights in late July and the whole place was excellent. I had requested a quiet room as my wife is unwell and when we couldn't use the first room as it was next to the lift we were immediately changed to a more suitable one which was perfect. The rooms are clean and well maintained, beds comfy and I loved the choice of hard or soft pillows. Breakfast was basic but perfectly fine, although busy at times. Staff were very efficient and chatty, which is a sign of a well run hotel. We will be back next time we are down visiting family as it was a great base for us. August 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel Great Service. We stayed one night on our way to Isle o Wight. Very good value for money,. The breakfast was great everyone would have liked something, great choice from cooked, continental, cerial, fresh fruits, yoghurt (mueller lite) I'm on a diet so I was well pleased It wasnt only a fry up. The rooms were lovely and clean and very quiet not like some other hotels that are always stuck on the side of a busy road. Lovely air conditioned bar where we spent most of our evening as it was just so hot, good service there as well and the prices are reasonable. The hotel was very busy people still checking in late in the evening. The staff were very helpful efficient and friendly. The flower beds could do with a bit of tidying up in the grounds apart from that my only moan is that the rooms were so uncomfortably hot due to our extreme weather. Perhaps fans should have been supplied, I didnt think of going to ask if they had any. I would stay there again and recommend it to any one. Good start to our holiday. August 1, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room Comfort I stay at this Hotel and others in the IHG Chain on a regular basis of Business. Normally this works very well foe me. On this occasion though the room temperature was so high that I had very little sleep over the 3 nights I stayed. As a result I shall be making sure that from this point on the Hotels I select for Summer trips have air conditioned rooms. August 1, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No air con / Fans Family Rooms are quiet small. Stayed here last week and the weather was sooo hot as it is the middle of summer and they have no air conditioning, no fans and didnt go out of their way to help us in any way. We were a group of 8 (3 young kids) and not one person slept a wink over our two nights stay. Poor customer service and poor facilities. Wouldn't recommend. July 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location with good parking facilities This was my first visit to the area and We were there for work nearby. The hotel was very clean and tidy. The staff on the desk were extremely helpful and it was great having breakfast included in the cost if the room. If I was ever in the area again I would definitely use this hotel again July 30, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great value place to stop we stayed for one night as we were visiting the docks. The Holiday Inn was easy to find off the motorway, and very central to activities in and around Southampton. Very comfortable and clean rooms, food was very good, and as the weather was good, we appreciated the odd benches within the grounds to sit and relax ,We also enjoyed the stroll to see the cricket ground. All in all Very good July 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely noisy Very disappointing stay. The noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in. In a 'family room' with barely any storage, and a double sofa-bed that my young children had to share, which had sharp exposed edges that I had to wrap towels around. No air-conditioning, on the second floor, and a window that opened about an inch. No bath; I'm fine with just a shower, but my 3-year old isn't! Really poor breakfast selection and quality. And I know I've already mentioned it, but again, the noise! Awful. Location convenient, and generally clean and in good condition, but would definitely NOT stay here again. Have submitted a complaint and am awaiting reply. July 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Wouldn't stay there again.. I had booked a twin room, only to find out that there was no air conditioning... On one of the hottest weekends this was less than ideal, also not being able to have a fan on one of the nights made really uncomfortable. The breakfast had a small selection as you would expect. However all of it seemed to be of a poor quality. I wouldn't stay again, maybe if you are choosing a different room it may be ok... July 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I may just move in! We stay here several times a year to visit my elderly mother. This booking originally for one night was subsequently extended by us to a second night. Our pre-arrival request for a ground floor room was accommodated and we were able to stay in the same room for the second night which not all hotels will do. Room as always was clean and comfortable, shower is lovely, would have liked an airconditioned room as it was very hot but none available and I didn't think to request in advance as we have never needed one before. However, we were delighted to find the room aired and pleasantly cool. Reception, housekeeping, bar and dining room staff were pleasant and efficient and engaged with customers. Also kindly provided me with a toothbrush as I had forgotten mine. If I were to mention any "cons" it would possibly be difficulty in parking at busy times and for the first time ever we were woken at 12.30am by a very noisy family with children running around and shouting which is most certainly not the hotel's fault and there is a notice on the doors asking visitors to respect other people when returning late at night. Thank you for another pleasant visit, we will certainly stay here again; in fact I may just move in! July 28, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Far to hot On one of the hottest weekends of the year -- AIR CON. ONLY in public areas. You step out of the lift and it is like walking into an oven, and because you can`t open the bedroom windows more than a ridiculous few inches, I found it almost imposable to sleep because it was so hot and stuffy. Have stayed at this Holiday Inn many times, but in this hot weather it was just dreadful. July 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent for short stay Very clean and tidy, everything you needed for a short stay. Free breakfast was good. July 27, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Complimentary breakfast? I understand the psychology of offering a "complimentary" breakfast but the hotel would do better to offer great coffee and croissants, say, rather than poor quality cooked breakfast which consists of watery scrambled eggs and revolting sausages. Less is more. The staff however are very obliging. Only stayed one night and it was fine for that. July 26, 2013
