Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not a quiet place to get sleep Heard some noises but thought it was the neighbor. Later tried to go to sleep around 12 but the noise did not stop. Finally figured out that the refrigerator was broken and making the noise. Called front desk, but he would not listen to me telling him where the noise was coming from. So he took 45 minutes to find the same problem I had told him. Instead of getting us a room that was quiet and did not have a leaking refrigerator, he unplugs it and tells us things should be better. Could not sleep with all the noises still and the frustration of dealing with horrible customer service. Instead of stressing out my daughter, I just stayed in the room because we had to leave in two hours for my daughters surgery, which is the only reason we stayed in the hotel. We were hoping to get some sleep. This did not happen. Called later to speak with a manager and all the were willing to do was give me points towards my rewards. This Holiday Inn Express looks great from the outside, but the rooms are of poor quality. The maids should have caught the problem with the fridge and the front desk clerk should have moved us instead of wasting 45 minutes of my time to figure out what I had already told him. Very clean rooms, breakfast is second to none, and the personnel are very friendly and helpful. Best place I’ve stayed so far for business. Parking space is some what limited. September 30, 2013

Have stayed there during Bloomsday w/end x too many years to count and my hubby or my sister and I stay w/ you when we drive over to shop or see the relatives. The room was somewhat small but well furnished with new TV and tasteful decorations. A great value in a lovely remodel. The location of this Holiday Inn next to the university makes the hotel exceptionally attractive to parents visiting Gonzaga as a prospective school for their students. September 23, 2013

We had been shopping all day, tired of driving and skipped lunch. It was a real treat since we were famished and didn't have to get back into the car and look for a place to eat. The area is somewhat of a food desert and finding a place to eat would have been another chore. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean. Only wish there would have been a hot tub... Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Impressed and Satisfied When my group and I first arrived at the Holiday Inn Express Spokane-Downtown, we had just come down from a 4-day camping trip in the mountains (real roughing-it). We probably looked and smelled as bedraggled as we felt complete with pine needles adorning my disastrous hair. When I went to the front desk to check-in, I give credit to the ladies behind the counter (Zoe was one but I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the other lady) who checked us in with an equanimity I've only seen in England. They were not only helpfully informative and quick, they were also pleasantly positive, duly sympathetic and fully welcoming. They had just moved back into the new lobby area and were still having some challenges, but they quickly had us checked in so I could have the long hot shower I desperately wanted. I had made reservations for a king-size bed and for some reason the room reserved was a double queen. I'm not sure how that happened, but Zoe quickly got us into a room I had specified on my online reservation. Yay, Zoe! The magnetic room keycards had an issue, but again, Zoe quickly remedied that within minutes! On top of all that, ALLl the staff we met were personable and ready to lend a hand. Even our dog was impressed! Although they only had one computer available for their business center, it was quick and efficient when I was able to use it #after a little wait). We also really appreciated the light dinner fare that evening! And for breakfast, the fare was quick and standard, but because they were prepared with care, it made for a relaxing and enjoyable start to the morning. I will be coming back to this hotel in the future. I would highly recommend this hotel. September 11, 2013

The hotel itself was lovely and the breakfast provided had plenty of choices to please everyone. The free local shuttle was a wonderful surprise and made our trip out to dinner even more relaxing. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel and a great value in Spokane The property recently was completely renovated and I thought that the hotel was brand new. It did not seem that the hotel was renovated but rather seemed like a brand new property. The rooms were pristine clean and the entire hotel was clean and well maintained. As an added value benefit, the hotel offered a light free dinner and a breakfast buffet with a wonderful selection of breakfast foods. The staff went out of their way to assist and when my son needed a ride to a hockey rink a few miles away, the manager personally drove him to the Arena that he could make his practice. During our stay in Spokane we stayed at another property only about a mile from the Holiday Inn Express and I we returned back to the Holiday Inn Express the following day as the other hotel was dated, was not very clean and was nothing compared to the Holiday Inn Express. Some of the rooms have a wonderful feature that allows the guest to access the room from the outside as well as from the inside, which makes loading and unloading the car very easy. As a general rule I will not stay in any Motel as I personally hate hotel rooms with outside access doors. However this set up does not feel like a Motel Setting as the rooms are all accessed through hallways and you simply have an outside "extra" door. When it comes to hotels, my first priority is cleanliness of the room and I will always travel with my own blanket and pillow. This hotel was extremely clean and this will be my favorite hotel when visiting Spokane. September 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by outstanding in all aspects Room was super clean, updated, and very comfortable. The lobby/relax area was very relaxing and the breakfast was very good. It was a very very good value. No reason to stay at a "full service" hotel when you have this place. To top it off, the staff was super friendly and outgoing. The guest printer in the business section was out of order, so they allowed me to use the one behind the front desk! I had a last minute business project I had to print and they didn't blink at my request. I especially enjoyed the breakfast. There just is no better deal in town. The exercise room could use more equipment, but it got the job done. I highly recommend this hotel. September 7, 2013

The first 2 days of our stay we entered through a side door and ate breakfast in a re-purposed guest room on the first floor. On our final day we were moved to the redecorated, sunny, spacious breakfast room. Our breakfast hostess (for all 3 days), Dzanana, was very personable and went out of her way to make sure that everyone got what they wanted. The new lobby is also very attractive & comfortable, as was our guest room. We will continue to stay at this comfortable hotel whenever we visit our son at Gonzaga U. September 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Having Fun Over the years I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on the Rock every month of the year. Some visits have been for business and medical reasons. Some for Bloomsday, concerts, ball games and just for fun. Once a person parks their vehicle - for free, most every thing downtown is in walking distance, if it a ball game at the Arena or Gonzaga, a concert at the Arena or the Convention Center. The free continental breakfast is great and the manager's reception three days a week is wonderful. The coffee pot is available all the time. The access to I-90 and highway 2 going to Mt. Spokane is fast and easy. Since it has never rained on my parade I am making plans to return to Spokane for Veteran's Day. September 1, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant surprises We have often stayed at HI Express as we find them generally clean and love the breakfast options - this was no exception to that! But when we were driving through Spokane looking for our hotel we saw this "castle" and thought "well that wont be it" - that was surprise #1 - that we got to stay in a castle on a hill with a view of everything. Surprise #2 was when we checked in and were told that dinner would be served - our room included a taco dinner complete with beer or wine for the adults!!! We topped the evening with a walk in the riverside park (and were told by the staff if we were too tired to walk back we could call them for a ride!) . Beautiful, quiet hotel and a surprisingly beautiful city. We were sorry we were only staying for one night but we are trying to think of a reason to go back now! August 27, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Good stay with issues. This is a nice property and will be even nicer once the new lobby and breakfast area is finished. Our main problem was that the fire alarm went off three times the first night. It was a false alarm each time. The staff on duty did not seem to have been trained to handle fire evacuation emergencies. We got no instructions or advice. The limited parking due to the new construction restricted the fire department access and would have been an issue in a real emergency. I recommend that management work with the fire department to make sure there is always access for emergency vehicles and that all staff are properly trained in emergency evacuation procedures. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice hotel. We really enjoyed our stay at this Holiday Inn. It was our first time here, and I would stay again The only couple of negatives... parking was really tight. Part of the lot was blocked off as the hotel was under construction. And the only other complaint, which I would assume doesn't happen often is, the fire alarm went off at 3:50 i the morning. We evacuated outside, and were let back in by the fire department about 4:30. Then it went off again around 7:00, then again shortly after that. Thankfully, there was no emergency, and the second and third alarm were only on for less than a minute. Otherwise, great accommodations. We got to look out over the city lights from our balcony, with a nice size room and comfy beds. August 22, 2013

Luckily, Jennifer at the front desk was very careful and found us a parking spot. Unfortunately, there were three false alarms during our one night stay. One was at 4 am, and the other ones were at 6 am and 7 am. The hotel didn't give us the reasons why. It was a restless night for us and for our kids. August 20, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Construction Though I vowed not to stay here again, we tried this location again. I was again very upset with the parking situation due to the construction. The guests should get the overnight parking spots NOT the construction vehicles/equipment and the staff parking. I don't believe the management is doing enough to alleviate the situation. I understand the construction ...but they could 1. mandate that construction equipment and vehicles be placed inside the construction fence at night. 2. Arrange for staff parking off property 3. Reduce the number of handicaps parking stalls (all 4 of them went unused both nights of our stay) 4.Compensate guests with a lower construction rate on rooms The first night there was absolutely no room to park. The night attendant moved his car for me. The second night I was forced to park along the construction fence as many were. The next morning I was given a a wake-up call and asked to go move our car for the workers. (I thought you sold sleep) Furthermore when I got to my car there were paint droplets on the one side of my car from the painters who had already started painting! I will NOT stay here again! Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Parkless in Spokane While my family and I were transferring for Wisconsin to Seattle our trip took us through Spokane. We were not sure how far we were going to make it during the day so I had to make reservations late about 3 in the afternoon. I was told there was only one room left with two queen beds that our pet and us could have. I reluctantly said yes since it was on the "view" side of the hotel. We got there and found a hotel mostly under construction with almost no parking. We have two cars and were only allowed to park one at the hotel. Just a few feet away was what we were told for our second car, but it was quite the walk UP a hill and without a sidewalk on a busy street. Dimly lit and we had to pay for it. The room was ordinary definitely not worth the price we had to pay and they offered no military discount even though many other HI that I have stayed at have. Anyway the view was nothing to talk about because the fence on the first floor covered most of the river, if I stood on my toes and looked I could see it. The thing that ticked me off the most as we were unloading there were employees parking in the undersized lot. I was told they had a meeting that night and would be gone, does me no good when I was trying to find a parking place at 8pm. the other thing that ticked me off was that they were carrying beer in. I would like to have meetings at work like that. I think I am going to drop HI from my hotel list. August 18, 2013
