Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by as excellent as each time The security was better than usual considering the place was full of police K-9 unit handlers and dogs. Security has never been a worry in the past and won't be, with or without these unique guests. October 2, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good location The hotel is tucked in between other hotels which made it an easy place to find. Staff were friendly and courteous, helping us make a change to our accommodations at check in. Would definitely recommend this location for ease of getting around Springfield and to the highway exits. Very nicely appointed. September 23, 2015

I do wish they would vary the breakfast selections more as we ate mostly the same thing the 5 nights we were on the road at Holiday Inn Express locations. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Poor Service When we checked in the Desk clerk said they did not have the room I reserved and then made some silent comment like well it is free anyway, not so, Paid cash and used 5000 points. Well that did not upset me too much as the room we got was two queen sized beds rather than one King. We settled in, went to dinner and came back, watch TV a while, we heard a dog barking someplace in the hotel but since we were watching TV pretty much drowned it out. Since we had had a big day and had a long day coming up we decided to turn in early. Turned the TV off and the dog was still barking. Not sure what room it was coming from. So I called the front desk to tell them about it and he said there are not supposed to be dogs in the rooms but service dogs are allowed and the only service dog he knew was in the hotel does not bark. This was about 8:45 pm, he said well it is too early to complain so call back later. I tried to call about 9:15. The phone rang a few minutes and no answer so I though he was busy so I hung up and tried again 5 or so minutes later, this time I just let it ring, probably close to 5 minutes,(I think the desk clerk seen whatroom was calling and refused to answer?) Then a reservations agent somewhere answered and I said I was not looking for reservations and she asked what was I looking for and I said the front desk clerk in the HIX in Springfield, IL and told here why, she said she would call the hotel and have the front desk clerk call me back, so several minutes later the phone rang and it was the front desk clerk and he began by admonishing me for calling reservations, I did not call reservations it must have been a automatic transfer after several minutes? He said he was busy so that is why he did not answer the phone. After that I told him I found ut what room the dog that was barking was in and he proceeded to tell me that dog does not bark, really I must be hearing things. So he said he was going to move us, we had already been in bed so we were in our night clothes, I said we had unpacked and were ready for bed, he said he would send someone to help move us, very soon there was a knock at the door and a employee had a key for us and was going to help move us, it was to the next floor up. I told the employee we both were in our night clothes and my wife would have to get dressed so give us a couple minutes. He said he would come back, we dressed and packed up our things, no one cam back so we moved ourselves. Guess what to the room directly above the barking dog-duh!!!. Well we settled in and after about 10 minutes the dog stopped barking, so we went to bed, ten minutes later the phone rings, it is the front desk clerk saying he did go down to the room where the dog was and sure enough the dog was barking. He said we can not have that, no kidding!!. Evidently if it was a service dog the person that was it's master went off without the dog, as they were not in the room. So by that time we were both quite agitated and had a hard time settling down but eventually got to sleep, not sure what they did about the dog. When I checked out in the morning there were three HIX employees by the front desk, I think a maintenance man, a housekeeping person and what probably was the manager, not sure, The person that I considered the manager asked "how did you sleep?" I said not well and gave her about 1/4 of the story I related here. She apologized and said I will give you your points back and I did not say anything as by that time I wanted a whole lot more and for our trouble and harassment.sure would never stay in that hotel again. The front desk clerk has no customer skills at all, has no business being in that position. I ran a business for 25 years and if I did not learn anything else I learned that the customer is all important, without customer's you do not have a business. We stayed at a HIX in Manchester, TN the next evening and the experience was very pleasant, as I have experienced in most HIX's that I have stayed in. But after that on the remainder of our trip we stayed in competing similar quality hotels. Not sure if HIX will do anything more than give my points back foir that hotel stay but in my mind they should refund my cash paid and a credit for a free night in another HIX.. September 20, 2015
