The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was minimal(with a very nice bathroom) and perfectly suited for our short stay. Breakfast is buffet style;very nicely presented with good options. Overall excellent experience and would stay there again. July 5, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Accommodating Staff From start to finish I felt like I was looked after properly. In my online booking I requested a quiet room away from other guests as I had an important business meeting the next day and needed a good nights sleep. They did exactly that; I couldn't hear a thing in the evening or the morning. Upon arrival I checked-in and the receptionist wished me a good stay and good luck for my business meeting, which was very thoughtful of her! The room facilities are excellent, the bathroom was very clean, indeed the whole hotel was! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in and loved the option to choose a soft or firm pillow. Despite being quite close to the road the traffic noise was not too loud at all. Breakfast in the morning wasn't bad. I do prefer a good cooked breakfast, but the majority was a continental breakfast. The hotel lobby was very modern and a pleasure to sit in. I'm surprised this hotel is a 2* hotel. I'd definitely stay here again should the need arise again. June 22, 2013

The bathroom was an excellent design although we would have preferred the availability of soap rather than soap dispensing bottles on the wall. The only really neagive aspect was the 4'6" bed as we are used to a six foot bed. We were suprised to find such a small bed in a well known hotel chain. Our advice would be book a twin bedded room. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good and the Bad Stayed here with family after day at Chessington. Had read the reviews and understood place to eat was at the pub over the road. What a great place to have a hotel situated, nice big car park and the hotel looks so smart from the outside. Walked in to check in, and as a Platinum member ( and was not recognized as one) I would normally expect everything to be ready, but it was not. The staff did prepare everything quickly so was not really that bothered. Room - standard room as with all HI. All clean and looked in great condition apart from the sofa bed. I just laid on it and it was so uncomfortable, and during the night my son was woken by the noise of other room doors being open and closed a lot -( and why people are moving around at 3am!!), my wife laid down with him to try and settle him back, and she said it was also awful. The AC system became vey noisy and then quiet again. Curtains did not really make the room that dark. Breakfast - Overall a good selection and what I normally expect at a HI. What I do not expect is to find that some of the sausages not cooked properly. Pink in the middle of several of them. When mentioned to staff they said they are cooked and have been checked with a temp probe, and then proceeded to demonstrate. I did also then cut them, and they were NOT pink inside. So I think the earlier ones maybe not have been cooked/checked properly, but the staff did not want to comment. Unlikely I would go back to this HI, even though its a great location for Chessington, and this is the first HI or any hotel within the IHG group that I have really been so annoyed about. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by No Iron to use in the rooms Having stayed at numerous IHG hotels including many Holiday Expresses, this is the only time I've not felt I could recommend the hotel. Staying for 4 days on business and they don't have irons that guests can take to the room. Instead they have an ironing room the other side of the hotel, which was a real inconvenience to go to each morning. This caused frustration for the whole stay as I would normally iron the shirts each morning. Unfortunately I won't be staying here again. This one small thing has meant that this particular hotel won't get repeat business. Rooms are clean as is always the case for IHG hotels which usually provide a very welcoming and comfortable stay. All other times I have stayed at IHG hotels have been at hotels that I would have no hesitation in recommending. May 22, 2013

The only small criticisms would be that there should be a mirror on the office/work station wall so that it could also be used as a dressing table. A bath as well as a shower would also be welcomed, as would a DVD player. Apart from that, very good and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to others or returning for another visit myself, as I am doing later in May! Keep up the good work!!!! :) May 20, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Generally excellent, but a couple of let downs... We stayed here with a large group of family, including a number of small children. The booking process was easy and the staff service we received was great, however we had requested via email a couple of travel cots for 2 different rooms, and our friends received a room with two double beds and NO travel cot, plus our travel cot was non existent also. The cooked breakfast choices were also a let down as there was no bacon....not a massive problem I hear you say, however as someone requiring a gluten free diet, I found that only beans and scrambled egg didn't really give me a massive the only other option was sausages. We did all love the friendly reception staff, and the fact that the bar stayed open late and could do items of food until the small hours. Nice spacious layout and nice and bright décor. Overall excellent...just a shame about the breakfast and the travel cots. Stay here though, as the views and surroundings are also amazing!! May 9, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value I had a brief one night stay during a house move. After a very stressful day it was great to find a clean friendly hotel for the night. The car park was huge and fairly empty on a Friday night. Would have been better if they had a security barrier. The front of house staff were polite and attentive. The room itself was quite small but functional. It was a standard room and had a double bed with a sofa bed. It had a very small hanging rail but no wardrobe so not ideal for long stays. Complimentary tea and coffee were provided along with towels, toiletries (body wash is fab - no need to take your own) and a hair dryer. Iron and ironing board would have been nice. The bathroom was small, just a shower, sink and toilet (which has it's own door for privacy# and very clean. We woke up in the middle of the night to find the room unbearably hot so you do have to sleep with the air conditioning on. We didn't use the restaurant, instead choosing to go over to the Rubbing House pub which is ok, nothing special #but we knew that as we are locals). Breakfast at the hotel was great. Sausages, baked beans and scrambed eggs, toast, croissants, pain au chocolat, fruit, cereals, toast, tea/coffee and very diluted fruit juice! We are having to stay again soon with our 3 year old which I'm dreading as the rooms are very very small and I've no idea how the sofa bed will fare but needs must so we will just have to hope! Location is perfect for the racecourse but probably a £10 taxi ride from town. April 30, 2013

Would have appreciated the availability of a high fibre breakfast cereal, eg Bran Flakes or Crunchy Bran. Awful music played in the lobby/sitting area/bar. We found the hotel, the Event Management team and the location excellent. The hotel was easy to access from Epsom station for those who had come by train. The rooms were clean and comfortable with good hot showers. Breakfast was good and it was useful being on the Downs for people to walk, if they wished. There was a twenty-four hour desk so it was not difficult to get into the rooms after the wedding. All our guests (and there were nearly seventy!) were very pleased with the hotel, it served our purpose admirably. A great experience and one to be recommended! April 23, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room layout designed by a man :-) I have stayed at this hotel a number of times on business and always find the room exceptionally clean (including the sheets & towels) - which is an important factor to me, personally. The reception staff are always very helpful & pleasant (especially Katie). My one criticism is that there is no plug near a mirror - making it difficult to use electrical hair appliances and be able to see what you are doing at the same time (hence the title of my comment). I take my own small mirror now :-) Oh and can we have bananas for breakfast please. April 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bed not very comfortable Stayed at this holiday express for two nights visiting family and we chose this one as it was cheaper than the Sutton surrey holiday express where we normally stay. It is clean and fresh and the only down side was that the bed although a proper double was sloping inwards to the middle which led to an uncomfortable night's sleep. Other than that I would recommend it, location next the racecourse id good and good pub over the road. April 6, 2013

Comfortable beds - I prefer a feather pillow - but the 'soft' pillow works - clean & fresh room, relaxed atmosphere and good breakfast - particularly the muffins! April 3, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This hotel is not so good The room was OK, but the furniture was ancient and worn out, the TV was old with only 6 or 7 channels and 3 radio channels, in this day & age with freeview & freesat this was a massive disappointment and needs addressing, the bed was comfortable but small, the breakfast wasn't brilliant, quite limited and not a lot of choice, very poor coffee & from a machine i might add, why oh why do they not have real coffee, if you want tea then it's a bag in a cup, and i HATE that, i would not recommend this Hotel, it was quite poor all in all. one thing it has going for it is there is a pub close by selling nice food and real ale, so i went there for the evening. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Epsom revisited Spent two nights at the "Downs" - a place I regularly visited in my well spent youth. Has changed mightily - so much development - including the Holiday Inn. Good value for money - quiet - pleasant staff - adequate food - and the room comfortable. We simply used it for a place to sleep and have breakfast. There is absolutely no point in spending a lot of money on a very well appointed hotel unless you are there for a duration and can make use of the facilities. Consequently this hotel meets the requirements in all respects and more adequately than some for "bed and board". Much amused by small groups sitting silently together fingering smart phones. Never realised that a smart phone could be so beneficial - no babbling conversation. Public areas almost silent - blissful! February 16, 2013
