Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The bar has been raised! My recent stay set a new standard for all other rooms that I may stay in. Very well appointed room, with DirecTV with tons of channels to watch and a shower with the most water pressure I have experienced in recent (or not so recent) memory. The fridge was taller than what you would normally see in most rooms thus affording you room to stand a wine bottle up in the door. Breakfast was awesome with real bacon and scrambled eggs, and cinnamon rolls that were not these little hard things you get with other hotels. Overall I was quite pleased with my experience and highly recommend this hotel. July 12, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very bad experience This Urbandale/Des Moines, IA Holiday Inn Express is not customer service oriented and has very rude front desk staff. I checked in and was given a room. I went to the room and the room had not been cleaned, including finding the room with no sheets on the bed. I had reserved (and subsequently paid for) an "Executive King Room". I went to the front desk and was assigned a different room. When I arrived in the second room, it was much smaller and cramped. I inquired with the front desk as to a charge adjustment (going from the Executive King Room to a standard room) and was told that they wouldn't make any price adjustment. The front desk staff said that all of their rooms were the same. Really...I was just in the Executive King Room and it was MUCH larger than the room that I was subsequently stuck in. I spoke to the manager about this the following morning and was told the same thing - all rooms are the same - perhaps someone from corporate needs to give these gentlemen tours of their own hotel and have them visit their website where guests make reservations. We will not be staying in a Holiday Inn Express again. June 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ok The price was high. I had no choice because so many hotels taken for Port Expo and my workshop was the same weekend (had nothing to do with Pork Expo). The rooms were nice, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was fair, I've had better. I did find the staff very nice. I also found the maid or room service crew very GOOD. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sewer Gas We walked off of the elevator on the 3rd floor and the smell of sewage overwhelmed us. It seemed the worst toward the middle of the building. I called down to the desk and they said yes, since they started construction on the building next door, they have been having trouble with sewer smell / gas. I told him we could even smell it in our room. No other room was offered to us. June 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Always a Great Place Had another great time at a Holiday Inn Express. Everything was the same as all the others. The only bad thing was when we got back from being out, our beds were torn apart and not made. It was as if they forgot to finish the room. When we called the front desk, the person on the other end was not friendly about it. This little negative won't keep us from going to another Holiday Inn. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location, friendly staff. We stayed there on our way to S.Dakota. Very good location if you are traveling east or west through Des Moines. Friendly staff and enough amenities to make your visit comfortable and relaxing. I would stay there again anytime. The night we were there was the night the tornado hit Oklahoma. We were surrounded by severe weather all night. Many around us lost power but the hotel did not. May 25, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Would Stay again if Hotel is new so I understand there are some kinks to be worked out. Let me start with the good. Its new. The staff is great and very accomodating. Room was clean and bed was comfy. Location is good and close to freeway. There are several places to eat close by. The only problem I had was with the Internet and TV reception. TV acted like a Satelite dish that needed adjustment because the signal kept getting lost. Internet is the biggest issue I have for considering this property again. It's the after hours that I am trying to get my email and file downloads done so internet connectivity is essential. Unfortunately for the duration of my stay, the internet was just about unusable and left my very frustrated and behind in my work. Not a good thing because that meant I had to work extra hours. Fix this and I'll be back. I travel every week and am in Des Moines 1-2 weeks per month. I'd prefer to be back to this property due to the proximity to my account. May 1, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Little Noisy This is a fairly new facility. We have stayed here several times and always been very satisfied. This time we had Room 430 and for some reason the road noise and vibration noise from what sounded like equipment on the roof, was a pronounced irritant for most of the night. We had never experienced this at this facility before, It will not deter us from using this very nice H I Express again, we will just asked for a different room next time. April 30, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap Rate, Great Service Lacks Extras Being that it is a holiday inn express the hotel was clean, the front desk manager was very nice and welcoming.. There was also a nice pool and a decent gym area. Lacked much for eating options outside of breakfest and no bar area to relax. The room was average, it was clean, but the toilet would randomly run at all hours of the night. If you walked anywhere in the vacinity of the entertainment center the tv would go blank for about a minute. Again a great rate, clean room and the one staff member I saw was very friendly. However, I do not think I will be staying at an express in the near future. March 18, 2013

I have stayed at this Holiday Inn Express on several occasions and always return because of the quality of the rooms and staff. Over the holidays I stayed for several days and for the first time was dissatisfied with one aspect of my stay. One of two days that I had breakfast, there were few choices as food was not available and there seemed to be no one replacing empty trays of eggs, etc. Breakfast ended up being very limited because of the lack of food and service. While this will not keep me from staying there again, I felt there was no one who was paying attention to the situation or at least acknowledge there was a problem. That would have gone a long way to have made the situation better. This is a quality place and problems do happen, but this was unacceptable. January 6, 2013

The eggs had been allowed to dry out, and the bacon was swimming in a pool of grease. I couldn't find anyone in the dining area to report the problem to. Had to get on the road and didn't report problems to the front desk. January 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Nice Hotel This hotel had a very nice big room and bathroom that gave us the feeling of home. The hotel is located close to I-80 & I-35 and is easy to get to. Des Moines had a foot of snow the day before we arrived. I enjoyed relaxing in the whirlpool and pool after driving the last 50 miles on ice and snowpacked roads. I would highly recommend this hotel. However, I was disappointed by the service provided by the front desk, as compared to the service I've received at the many other Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Expresses I've frequented elsewhere. I didn't receive Priority Club Member recognition, and there were a couple cases of obvious lack of communication between the front desk and the rest of the hotel staff. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Example of what a Holiday Inn Express can be This has been the best Holiday Inn Express we have visited. Repeated stays and quality has been consistent. It's a newer hotel, so that helps, but the staff are definatley trying to keep it looking that way. Friendly, quiet (even considering you are right off I-80), and great location. That said, your pool is FREEZING! My kids lips turned blue after only 10 minutes in it. Also docked a point on the "Knowledgeable Staff" as we requested a quiet room away from elevators and ice machines and they put us one room down from both. Had to change rooms, either the staff aren't aware of where the rooms are in the hotel, or they thought they were being funny but when you are traveling with your family and have to move all their stuff it is a hassle. We also had to get 3 different room keys before they worked consistently. Would work once to unlock the door and then stop. With younger kids this could have been an issue with them being potentially locked in the room without us. January 2, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good front desk response My family an I checked in on Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving. We were visiting relatives that evening and Thanksgiving day. We have stayed before and have had no problems other that Breakfast area gets very busy and the staff has a time keeping up. On this trip the intitial check in and room (third floor and next to ice machine) provided were fine. No real complaint until about 9:30 PM. We had come back from dinner earlier and had settled in for a nice quiet night. All of a sudden the room directly above us had what sounded like a herd of elephants trampliing back and forth and yelling loud talk. I believe there were two families sharing ajoining rooms and they were just letting the kids go wild. I am a fairly tolerant person but when it did not stop after about 15 minutes I made a call to the front desk. The clerk on duty apoogised for the disturbance and assured me he would call the room and ask them to stop the commotion. I'm not sure what he told them but they did indeed stop after a short time and we finally got some piece and quiet. I would definately suggest that aneone staying here stay on the fourthe floor if possible. Thank you to the clerk who corrected this situation. November 28, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst service at a Holiday Inn, Ever! I signed up for priority club rewards in July and since then I have stayed in about 45 to 50 different Holiday Inn Hotels. This hotel has, by far, the WORST service ever! The Hotel is relatively new, clean and looks great, however the staff is unfriendly and apparently can not work a telephone! I had an issue with my stay over a month ago, since then I have made several phone calls to the hotel and also to Priority Club customer service. I was even promised extra bonus points from the GM and still nothing! If you call the hotel, the staff will admit that they have no good way to relay a message! Really?!? The TV in the rooms worked half of the time. Breakfast in the morning, Terrible! Holiday Inn usually has pretty good breakfast, not so much at this location. I stayed 3 nights, thought that maybe they had an off day...nope, unless they had 3 off days! If you are looking for a place in the Des Moines area I would NEVER pick this one again!
