Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly, comfortable, convenient lodging Location right off of the 696 freeway made it convenient to the airport and central to the Warren/Sterling Heights area. Krogers and Tim Hortons in walking range. Comfy bed with lots of pillows. Loved the pool but beware: it is not heated.Great on a hot day but freezing on a cloudy cool one. Also, they don't have it available right away after a storm because it is outdoors. Nice tree-surrounded pool area with chairs and tables with umbrellas. Staff helpful, breakfast and maid service excellent. Construction made it awkward but it was a good value for the money. Enjoyed the sound of cicadas in August. September 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant Stay Check-in was without incident - very timely and the clerk was pleasant. Our room was easy to locate and the arrangements were excellent. It was equipped with a refrigerator and microwave as requested. We were hardly able to tell that the hotel was undergoing major renovations -- we were never inconvenienced and there was no noise. House Keeping on day 3 never showed up until after 5:00PM day 4 they showed up at 4:00pm and deliveres clean towels they didn't even take to the bathroom. Although they are going through a renovation their property is clean and well maintained. In Detroit I would not stay any where else. August 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worth staying at Have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express in the past and this is one of the better ones. Very clean and staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast areas was well stocked and the staff ensured everything ran smoothly. I did find the bed to be more firm then most Holiday Inns. Usually the beds at Holiday Inns are something you melt into. Not here. Also pool is outdoor, which is fine but it needs to be heated. Pool water was very cold. August 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wonderful breakfasts arrived in afternoon and checked in. Is always an easy task as the staff is always so helpful. Shopping is close and easy to get to..if wanted. Rooms are always comfortable. As we wanted to be up and out early all we had to do was ask for an early wake up call.. Breakfast was help yourself and ready when wanted., Hot and cold things were all available even Juice and or coffee. we will definately be using this hotel again in the future. August 21, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Holiday in Express I have ever stayed in No one advised of construction on hotel. We were at hotel for over a week and children were hoping to be able to swim. There was hammering on walls of hotel and people working outside our window. More than once I went down to desk to voice my concerns and was told a manager would be down but never did we see one. Also asked for an extra towel multiple times and only 1/2 the time we were provided one. One morning we asked for an additional towel and were told there were no more so I had to dry off with hand towels. Each employee had a different story and no one knew what the other one was doing. Bed was the most unconfortable bed we have ever had. Due to a change in our original reservation, we had 2 seperate reservations. I had asked in the beginning if this was going to be an issue or would we have to move 1/2 way through our stay, we were told no but when that day came, we tried to get in our room and our key didn't move. first we were told we were scheduled to check out, after 20 minutes of trying to figure this out, employee saw we were were staying 5 more days but she had us going to another room. she said she would fix this and reactivated our key. 3 hrs later our key didn't work again and we were told we had to come down and redo paperwork and after 4 attempts our key was finally working properly. Due to the nature of our vacation we were unsure of the date we were going to leave. We had a reservation with priority club points was through Friday July 19 but decided to leave on July 18 as our tournament was done. I asked multiple times if we would get our points back if we left early and were told yes by priority club and hotel staff. It has been 2 weeks and we still have not received any point refund. Overall, we have stayed an multiple Holiday inn's and Holiday inn express. Usually we have the best luck with this motel chain which is why we usually choose this chain, but this motel was far the worst stay we have ever had. So bad that for the second week of our vacation we stayed at a different motel chain. July 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient Didn't realize the place is undergoing renovations but overall, it was adequate for our duration. Morning breakfast was good but not much variety. The location was very convenient to where we needed to go and easy access to the freeways and highways. The staff was polite and cleaning was excellent. There were some noise from the renovations that made it a bit hard to take a nap but nothing really loud. The towels could've been softer as well. July 25, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Service despite Construction Despite the construction for the facelift which limits parking and the overall curb appeal. The rooms are clean, staff is responsive and polite, and the breakfast is well attended too (everything is fresh, etc.). The computers are good too in the business center. And finally both treadmills in the fitness center work. Also, special kudos to this location for the evening sandwiches or pizza offered on Monday - Wednesday Day. Also, I like the Fox Soccer Channel that is offered. This location is doing their best and overcome the construction for the facelift. The sooner though they get this done, the better for all. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel is under construction The hotel is currently under construction. The hallways also smelled of varnish, that seeped into the room. There was hammering during the course of the day, while trying to relax in the room. Additionally, there was an argument/fight that broke out in the hallway, one at 12 AM and one at 3 AM. When we checked in , the room had no waste basket and they couldn't find one when I called the front desk. I realize that Michigan and suburban Detroit may be a little rougher than other parts of the country; however I expected a lot more from the Holiday Inn Express. On the positive side, the staff was pleasant and the manager's snack/dinner was very nice. The experience has made me reconsider staying at Holiday Inn Express hotels for future travel. June 11, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wedding Party - Block of Rooms We reserved about 25 rooms for our relatives and guests, who came to attend my daughter's wedding that took place at Royalty House in Warren. The HIE did an excellent job satisfying all our guests and family members. I can not ask for more than the smile all staff members had on their face all the time and their willingness to assist us in any manner our request were put out. I really would recommend any one who is for business or leisure to select Holiday Inn Express of Warren. I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Travelling from Florida Hotel is in process of being renovated, but in suitable condition for all that and well-equipped. Location is convenient to I696 and traffic noise isn't an issue despite proximity to highway. Availability of buffet for supper upon our arrival was a very nice surprise and much appreciated as we didn't have to go in search of a restaurant. Disappointed to find front desk cannot accept American Express Travellers Cheques which is a first in our experience for Intercontinental Hotels sites. WIFI signal was very poor, which may be due to room location which was far from front desk, but that was also a surprise. March 12, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average Stay - Some work to do for a TRUE recommendation In general, we were pleased with our stay. HOWEVER there were a few concerns. First, this is not an easy location to get to (a lot of one way roads). Luckily, we purchased iPhones two weeks ago and learned to use the map feature... UNFORTUNATELY the confirmation email we received had the wrong address on it. So when we put the address into the map feature, we received incorrect directions. Luckily, since we had two phones we were able to use one phone to look up the phone number, call the location, and get the correct address, so we could input the correct address into the other phone, and get correct directions. The staff was very helpful and knew just what the issue was (as though this was a common occurrence). Without those phones we would have been lost! Two weeks ago we had basic phones. At 9:00 at night, in a poorly lit area, this is a big concern. Next concern... the area is extremely poorly lit. This made it additionally difficult to locate entrances to the lot, and was quite dark walking through the lot when we arrived late in the evening. Next issue - although this may seem small, I was really displeased to find that as Priority Club members, we were not provided with any bonus, i.e. every other Holiday Inn/HI Express we've stayed at provided us with little "thanks" type things, like freshly baked cookies, snacks, bottled water, a complimentary newspaper (typically USA Today), mints, etc. There was NOTHING for us. I even asked about it and was told they don't do that. Really?? Next issue... Although it WOULD lock, we had to "play with" the door - get it in just the right position to be able to throw the deadbolt into place. Next issue... the wireless service. We could not get on the service with our phones at all - even though they are capable, the location's wireless was not. And we had spotty service to our laptops in our room. We were on the first floor. The only time I have ever had poor internet service in a hotel (since wireless service has become commonplace) was when we were on a 4th or 5th floor and the wireless was known to have trouble reaching the higher floors. This location supposedly had multiple routers - one for each floor, yet we never had more than two bars on any of the routers... we tried them all. We were knocked off multiple times. Finally... After getting out of the shower on our first morning, my husband noticed ants scurrying around in the bathroom. He happened to see where they were gaining access and put a little piece of soap into the hole. This was apparently a sufficient deterrent, as we did not see them again. But still... concerning. The staff was friendly and the room was generally clean and comfortable (certainly not the MOST comfortable room we've stayed in, but average.) Friendly staff, safety, and cleanliness are my top three priorities in a hotel. These were met, but not with flying colors. You have some work to do. January 16, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Two nights of a holiday weekend The desk was large enough for my wife and I to both work at it, so she requested a second swivel chair be brought in, and staff accommodated her. The breakfast area is subject to chills from the front door, so sit as far away from the door as you can. The signage on Hoover Road is small and inconspicuous. We twice drove past the hotel when returning in the evening, not seeing the entrance. That got irritating. The pool is outdoors - not usable in November. We likely will return if we do the same convention next year. December 4, 2012

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lived up to my expectations of HI Stayed at this HI Express during my son's wedding. We had two rooms. We were checking in on different days but I was paying for both rooms. I called almost 2 months in advance and Brian took care of all my concerns and reassured me that everything would be fine once we followed certain protocols. As a mother, I was stressing, but the day came and my son had no problems checking in. We lucked out as when we were checking in, they were in the process of changing all the mattresses, we slept in brand new mattress and it was very comfortable. Complimentary breakfast buffet was just perfect. Hot food, or continental - or both! Coffee is brewed through out the day and it is not bad at all. Convenient location close to the highway, but quiet enough to get a good night sleep. Several fast food places within a walking distance. (BK, KFC, T.Horton's). Shopping centers within a mile on either direction. Not fancy, but very convenient, clean, and excellent service - from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. If I have to go back to Warren, I will be staying there again! November 19, 2012
