Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exquisite! What pure joy to stay at the Indigo for 11 nights in early January. The hotel is in an excellent location in Wanchai, very close to the Wanchai Market, a metro station, bus lines and numerous good restaurants and activities that are within walking distance in this historic neighborhood. The area is bustling, but not nearly as busy or noisy as Central, but close enough to get there in quick fashion. I received an exceptionally kind and warm welcome on my very late evening arrival. The reception and bell staff including Daniel, Kahlen and Osiris made certain that I was made aware of what the hotel had to offer and that if I had any questions or needed anything to just ask - and I certainly did! My room - on the 16th floor (1604), was beautifully appointed. I particularly appreciated the Nespresso machine and tea maker as well as the great variety of for purchase snacks available from the fridge and snack drawer. The wine selection was well above average. A lovely gift of delicious macaroons in a silk chinese box on a lacquer tray awaited me. The room was a good size, and included a sofa, coffee table, of course the bed and an excellent writing desk which was complete with USB charger ports (no need to use current converters, etc. for camera/phone charging). The information book in the room provided a very thorough listing of great activities, good places to shop and wonderful places to eat. Oh...did I tell you about the amazing rain-head shower? It was pure heaven after a 16 hour flight and each day thereafter! The bathroom was complete with wonderful luxurious big towels and deluxe soaps and an exceptional variety of amenities not normally found (toothbrush/paste, razor/shaving cream, etc.). The bathrobe was made of a lovely cotton. Very thoughtfully, the hotel includes an umbrella, shoeshine and sewing kits, and a large sturdy tote bag (for those market purchases). The hotel reception desk employees were always available and extremely helpful in providing and/or gathering information about places that I wanted to go or where I could find something very specific. They knew and if they didn't...they found out. Every time I left the hotel, the door was opened for me and every time I entered the hotel (many times throughout the day and night) the door was opened to welcome me back and an elevator was called. Their smiles were ever present and very much appreciated. I have traveled world-wide and have stayed in many fine hotels in major cities, however I must say that my stay at the Hotel Indigo was one of the finest hotel stays that I have ever encountered. The location, hotel style, room design and comfort of the Indigo are important considerations and it has them all. But...the hotel has more...it has a superior quality of staff that takes pride in their hotel and in themselves and it shows! A special thank you to Daniel, Kahlen, Osiris, Ben and all of the front desk staff for making my trip to Hong Kong so very, very special! Thank you for getting information for me, calling taxis, and for being so very warm and friendly! Do yourself a favor and experience the Indigo the next time you are in Hong Kong! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel in a Great Location From the time we arrived to the time we departed we were not disappointed with the hotel, its amenities or the staff. The size of the room was more than adequate. The lift service was good with little waiting time. The breakfast buffet was limited but the quality of food and service was excellent. The hotel is in a location close to the MTR (5 min walk), buses stop 25m from the front door, and a taxi never took longer than 5 minutes to arrive. The Wan Chai star ferry to Kowloon is only 10 minutes walk. The tiny size of the mini bar fridge, which could not even hold the milk carton when opened, or any goods we may have wished to store, was the only disappointment. It may be a little costly for a long stay (we stayed 10 nights) but the convenience of the location made up for that. January 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fresh design in Hong Kong The room design is Indigo-like very fresh and hip. The hotel is still quite new and this shows in overall appearance. The lobby is rather small, but sufficient. Overall, the Indigo is a rather small hotel. It has many floors but only few rooms per floor. The location in Wan Chai is not in the middle of things. It takes a walk to the metro or tram station where some local restaurants are available. The amenities as an IHG Royal Platinum Ambassador was sub-par to other IHG hotels. We didn't get any room upgrade. Only special amenity was a drink voucher and late check out. Would visit again if I want to stay on the Hong Kong Island side. But of course, the other IHG ICs on the Kowloon side are on a different level and I would always prefer those if available. January 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Expensive Breakfast, Cancelled Booking, Poor Customer Service, Bad Fung Shui, and Artificial Flowers! As a Platinum Ambassador Member staying over 60 nights in different hotels with IHG a year, I was excited to check out the new Indigo HK after reading the glowing reviews from guests. I promptly booked a two-night “Advance Purchase” stay, as I do for all my IHG bookings where possible. I was quite surprised to see a very high charge to book breakfast online for one or two persons. This cost is extremely high even in HK! Upon return from my Beijing and Shanghai trip, I was stressed to see that the hotel had manually cancelled my booking as they could not charge my credit card in the meantime. Karen from the Hotel’s reservations department promptly informed me on my Gmail account of the cancellation. Is the hotel not aware that Gmail is blocked in mainland China and guests could be travelling there? In any case, this is the first time any IHG hotel has cancelled my reservation due to the fact they could not charge my credit card in advance. All the IHG hotels I have stayed do not even bother to do that, no matter what they say online. Subsequently, I decided to use points to redeem a night’s stay to see what the hotel is like. Early check in was declined and was given a “Deluxe” room on the lowest guestroom floor. Upon entering the room, I noticed the curtains were totally drawn in the darkened room and realized the reason the hotel did this is because an office block is 3 m away on one side and an apartment block overlooks on the other about 8 m away. Design is cutting edge with the bathroom totally open to the bedroom area. From the feedback, I understand some guests sharing are not comfortable with this. Putting a full height mirror facing the side of the bed is bad Fung Shui (see pic below), every HK resident knows that. A better location would be on the nib wall of the closet perpendicular to the mosaic wall, which is away from the bed. This will also enhance the cramped room by repeating the mosaic wall and make the room appear more spacious. With the open bathroom design, it is virtually impossible to feel relaxed to open the curtains as office workers could see guests walking out of their showers! The curtains have to be permanently closed – not much difference to have a room with no windows. The hotel gave a better room on a higher floor after a 3-hour wait. Upon check-in I was able to pre-book a breakfast for half the online price, How confusing. In any case it was a disappointment as the spread was “Holiday Inn” standard and not worth the money. With the hotel supposedly full over the New Year holidays, there were only about 8 guests at the Cafe! I was also surprised to see a bunch of what looks like used red joss sticks masquerading as Christmas decorations on the table (pic below) – bad Fung Shui again. Reception staff generally courteous but cold. No welcome letter, momento or recognition. Lobby and public areas are bedecked with silk flowers befitting a two star hotel. With the hotel adjacent to the markets, what is wrong with real greenery? The Operations Manager (Roy) and GM (Albert) were not seen around the hotel. This is a stark contrast to Indigo Shanghai where Platinum members receive double upgrades, a bottle of French wine, (even for 1 night stay), Indigo branded toy horse and the GM of the hotel could be seen clearing the breakfast tables! There is even a GDS online package including a 5 star breakfast for one Yuan extra. I decided to book my second night’s stay in HK at Holiday Inn Soho for a lot less points. In recognition of being a Platinum member, the Manager gave a two bay Suite complete with two hand basins, separate dining, living area, free soft drinks in the fridge and even the same Nespresso coffee machine and pods found in Indigo HK Deluxe rooms! It appears Holiday Inn do look after their Platinum members better. I do not recommend this hotel. January 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cool layout of the room We were staying for six nights. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient, having both MTR, bus and tram just a short walk away. We were stunned by the layout of the room - a very efficient way of arranging work space, bed and a relaxing sofa in a small space. We appreciated the fact that the room offers a Nespresso Pixie, which makes great coffee. There was no light disturbance at night and except for the humming sound of the air conditioning there was barely any noise. Staff was friendly and helpful and very polite. January 20, 2015
