New Delhi’s colonial heart is Connaught Place. Its whitewashed, grey-tinged streets radiate out from the central circle of Rajiv Chowk, lined with shops and restaurants. Palika Bazaar, the oldest underground market in India, lies in this place. The Indian tricolor currently doing its best to fly over Connaught Place measures 5,400 square feet – enough to cover half an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

The National Rail Museum is a museum in Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi which focuses on the rail heritage of India. Opened on the 1st February 1977, it is located on more than 10 acres of land and has both indoor and outdoor exhibits. A toy train offers rides around the museum on regular days.

It's one of Delhi's biggest markets and a destination for everyone who's out on a hunt for trendy yet reasonably priced clothes. Export surpluses come to this market at throwaway prices. But don't expect trials or changing rooms at street-side shops. There are a few eating joints in the vicinity if you wish to take a break. The market is usually crowded on weekends throughout the day.

Safdarjung's Tomb stands as the final enclosed garden tomb within Delhi, following the architectural tradition established by Humayun's Tomb, albeit on a smaller scale. Constructed between 1753 and 1754, this monument serves as the mausoleum of Safdarjung, who served as the viceroy of Awadh during the reign of the Mughal Emperor, Mohammed Shah.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan serves as the designated residence for the President of India. Located in the heart of New Delhi, the estate spans across 130 hectares. In addition to the presidential residence, the estate features the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex, which includes notable structures such as the Clock Tower, the Stables, and the Garages. Within the museum complex, visitors can explore exhibitions on past presidencies, regal ceremonies, and the diverse flora and fauna.

Rising majestically above the bustling streets of the historic city, Jama Masjid, also referred to as Masjid-i-Jahan Numa or the World-reflecting Mosque, stands as one of India's most expansive mosques. Regarded as the final architectural endeavor of Emperor Shah Jahan, it showcases the opulence characteristic of the Mughal dynasty's fifth emperor. Constructed over a span of six years from 1650 to 1656, it required the labor of more than 5,000 craftsmen and workers.

Lal Qila or the Red Fort, named after the red sandstone of which it is built, remains an impressive testimony to Mughal grandeur. It was built between AD 1638 and 1648 after Shah Jahan decided to move his capital from Agra to the newly planned city of Shahjahanabad. It was designed by the Mughal architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who had worked with the Persian architect Ustad Isa Khan of the Taj Mahal fame.

Designed by Edwin Landseer Lutyens in 1931, this 42 metre high monument was erected as a memorial in honour of the Indian and British soldiers martyred during World War I and the Third Afghan War, 1919. The names of the 13,516 martyrs are inscribed on this imposing monument.

Located in Jaipur House, former residence of the erstwhile Maharajas of Jaipur, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) today has undeniably the most significant collection of modern and contemporary art in the country.
