Must See

The New Theatre Royal is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Take a trip back to the 1860s in the lavish hall, replete with plush seats and a gilded proscenium. You can enjoy a rousing musical, a raucous comedy show or a classical music performance. If the venue's architecture and history are more your thing, you can book a guided tour of the theatre.
Must Do

Must Do

The Spinnaker Tower, a 15-minute walk from the hotel, resembles a ship's sails and soars 560 ft skyward. From its dizzying observation decks, adventure-seekers can view the bustling dockyard and peaceful harbour unobstructed – from a crow's nest, or through telescopes or a glass floor. You can also have high tea in the sky, with scones, savoury sandwiches and petits fours.
Don't Go Home Without

Don't Go Home Without

Built in memory of Admiral Lord Nelson, the Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson is about nine miles from the hotel. Wartime lives on with a 200-ton, rail-mounted Howitzer, plus cannons and weaponry. Take in the ceremony of daily gun firings, or walk in the haunting underground tunnels. Kids can play dress-up in period wear, handle weapons and giggle at WWII graffiti on barracks walls.

A five-minute drive from the hotel lies Southsea Castle, built by King Henry VIII to guard the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. Life-sized dioramas of soldiers arming cannons take visitors back to the 1500s. Full armour displays give a taste of life as a knight of the king, and kids can play hide-and-seek in the maze of underground tunnels. Keep a lookout for a fly-past by the Red Arrows on D-Day.
