Your kids may be surprised to learn that, once upon a time, there were elephants in this part of England. Minutes from the hotel, in Royal Leamington Spa, you can follow the town's Elephant Trail, which Victorian elephant trainer Sam Lockhart would use to lead his elephants, named "The Three Graces", to the water to bathe. Learn more about Leamington's history with a visit to the Royal Pump Rooms. Home to the town's public baths until 1990, this 1814 Grade II listed building will appeal to architecture lovers with its columnated facade and Moorish-inspired interiors. It now houses the Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum, with paintings, photos and a children's gallery featuring the local symbol, the elephant.


Take some time away from the crowds at Warwick Castle to explore the nearby gardens. Outside the castle walls but still within view of them, the Mill Garden explodes with flowers and plant life encircling the river. Closer to town, the restored Hill Close Gardens are a network of Victorian gardens once planted by Warwick townspeople to take a break from business.
