Awful Experience

The hotel was not clean and very outdated. One of the days of my stay I had a random person key into my room and all the front desk said was that we will keep an eye out on it. Room service was unreachable the entire trip. THere was mold growing on the outside walls of the hotel around AC units. We will definitely not be staying at this "resort" again.

If it is possible to leave ZERO stars I would. I’m not one to complain but this was the worst hotel stay I’ve ever been in. I travel for business and have stayed at 100s of different hotels. I can honestly say I will never be staying at another Holiday Inn.

The staff member at check in was unfriendly and not helpful. The rooms were musty smelling. The resort is lacking in amenities that you would expect of a resort. The arcade was closed most of our visit, fitness room was lacking in equipment and the restaurant seemed like an afterthought. Beach chairs and umbrellas were not a service of the hotel but a completely different entity. The pool area snack bar lacked the full advertised menu and you had to proceed to a tent area to collect your food after ordering from the snack bar. This hotel should not be advertised as a resort, at best it’s a 2 star hotel.
Don't stay in room 243!

We arrived early and were able to check in early so that was nice. We stayed in room 243 which was right above the Seaside bar and grill. If we could walk out our window the roof was right there.
The room was clean and cool upon arrival, the bathroom is pretty outdated with old toilet and shower both showed thier age and the stopper would not stay open in the tub...
It was nice being so close to the beach made it easy to visit the beach. 1st night on the 4th of July we stayed out pretty late and made back to the room by midnight. Once we tried to watch TV the AC was so loud we had to watch at volume 20! So needless to say sleeping was tough the AC was too loud... turned down the fan to make less noise then we sweated most the night. Up early went to the front desk to move rooms, we were informed the hotel was full and that they would send maintenance.
We returned a few hours later and talked to the front desk for an update and we were told the AC unit was replaced, and it had been replaced so we were happy.
Got back to the room around 9pm cause we were so tired and the Bar and grill beneath our room was rocking! The music blaring till about 10:55pm and then the cleaning started and continued till about 1am. Banging, moving something and yelling till 1am! Then the cleaning crew starts at 8am so we just left the hotel tired as hell and went exploring again before the 6 hour drive home.
We paid $1,012 for 2 nights which would have been ok but we left more stressed than when we arrived... we would probably not stay at this hotel again with so many other choices nearby.
Pros: the beach
Cons: noise, outdated hotel, no lazy river anymore.

The hotel was nice, was disappointed in the front desk employees. I had paid for breakfast every morning, they never mentioned it. I went down to ask about it and they acted like it was a pain to give me the vouchers. I had also asked them to send someone to our room to clean the big window it had something running down it and that was never taken care of either. Very disappointed in the bathroom area, it was tiny!! The grounds were beautiful, the food and drinks were excellent and all the other staff members were very polite .

This location could use a well trained Front Desk Supervisor with Guest Service ability, Room Towels are dingy gray(White), elevator #2 does NOT work, Hotel Main Phone to Front Desk not working this week

Stay away from this Hotel. It's old, outdated, in bad operating conditions. Not to mention it's overpriced.
If you want a Holiday in in South Padre, try the other one, not named as a resort. It has regular normal prices and is in a way better condition.

Background- I stayed at this hotel nine years ago when it was owned by Schliterbaun during a business conference, and it was amazing. Since then I haven’t had a chance to go back to South Padre Island.
This trip I was in the area for business and decided to take the family for one night. I should have stayed at another hotel. First issue, I booked the “family pack” online which basically just added 2 chairs and an umbrella on the beach. Check in was at 4p. Arrived and the young girl at the desk was obviously new. She didn’t give me a voucher for the chairs and umbrella, luckily someone overheard me asking about it. Then she didn’t tell me which building I was in or how to get there.
During the walk to the room can see the deteriorating building, lack of paint and over all lack of maintenance of the property. The room itself had sand and hair all over the carpet and the shower leaked.
We didn’t let it deter us and went to the beach, and made it by 5:30p found the guy in charge of the chairs which wasn’t wearing a Holiday Inn attire or any signs. He tells me he is closing in an hour. Got set up and enjoyed the beach.
Headed back to the hotel and went to the bar pool first. It was dirty and not well maintained. Had some drinks which were okay but over priced. Went to the pool in the middle which was also lacking maintenance.
Went to the room to shower and get ready to go for dinner and just as I’m about to jump in we hear a knock and the door opening. I guess it was a maintenance guy or something but he tells me my credit card did not go through and needed to go to the desk. He looked shocked when I confronted him about opening the door. I finish my shower and head to the front desk. Remember the new girl that checked me in, I guess she didn’t know what she was doing and didn’t charge my card correctly. I swipe the card again and get verification the transaction went through and head back to the room. Once I arrive my wife advises me the “maintenance guy” came back to give us another key because they canceled our original key.
I just can’t believe the lack of pride or work put into the property. There were even holes in the wall of the room. Like they hung something up and didn’t like it and failed to patch the holes. And employees opening the door on their own, be smart. Training is much needed at this property.
Will not be staying at this location again.
Great Beach& People/ Very Bad Accommodations

Beach was fantastic. People working at the resort were great. The facilities and accommodations need some serious renovation or at a minimum basic maintenance. And please install a good water filter throughout the resorts water sustem. The water taste is unbearable and make everything taste bad.
We won’t stay here on our next trip to SPI

I will start from check in. There was some confusion from me booking on a secondary site but the manager made it right immediately. Was impressed with the lobby and location to the beach. Our room was nice but we had 7 women and we had to immediately ask for more towels and coffee. Which was brought to us promptly. The beds are very comfortable. We stayed in one of the suites and it was nice but the bathroom was very small. Due to the sand from the beach the carpet didn’t stay very clean in room or hallways. The grounds were dated but very well maintained. Staff was very friendly. We would recommend staying here.
