To celebrate the opening of Sanctuary Cove, five days of celebrations were held over the second weekend in January in 1988. International acts Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston headlined the two main concerts at the event which also saw performances from The Boy From Oz's Peter Allen and legendary vocalist Julie Anthony amongst others. By day the entertainment line-up continued, showcasing the best of the Sanctuary Cove lifestyle with a full program of ultimate sporting events.
Sanctuary Cove is home to many native wildlife including local kangaroos. The best time to view the kangaroos from a distance is at dawn or dusk when they are out feeding you’ll see them mainly on the golf courses and at times on the grounds of the resort. As they are wild animals it is strongly recommended that they are admired from a distance.
The Resort's Architectural Design
InterContinental Sanctuary Cove resort's Great House pays homage to the distinct Queenslander design. Queenslander designed homes can be identified by the 'tin and timber' look and raised living spaces allowing for ventilation below which is needed during the Spring and Summer months of the year. This design was first introduced in 1840's and has been a permanent design feature in the state of Queensland with local governments implementing conservation laws to keep the distinct look in the local suburbs.
