I have visited Holiday Inn Almaty Several times. Staff is always nice and helpful, hotel is clean and comfortable. Location is great.
Sometimes there is some hassle related to f.ex. ordering a taxi but that belongs to the central asian culture!
Believe me, best quality-price -ratio at Almaty.

My family's stay at the Holiday Inn in Almaty was pleasant: I was offered a free bottle of champagne, and the staff was very professional at addressing all my inquiries.

The hotel in Almaty is modern and the staff is very pleasant but beware the internet. I have never had so many problems with internet service as I have had in this location. It was, to put it mildly, completely and utterly frustrating. I needed to have a staff member in my room almost every evening to help log onto the internet. The internet was spotty, troublesome to connect to and has no bandwidth to speak of. If you do business with the internet while abroad, avoid this location.
The food was good but very pricey as well as the drinks for this area. A $17.00 ceasar salad (3200 KZT) is expected in some locations but not here. This hotel is also a little off the beaten path and if you do not have transportation, you will need to utilize a taxi service.
All in all, I did not have a bad experience here but I think that the hotel has a little growing to do as far as the international market is concerned. Their services are not equal to their prices.
If you are an IHG member, I suggest the Intercontinental as a better alternative.

Front desk staff could have done better. I had problems with wifi connection and an inroom modem was provided. This was handled professionally. But on the other hand, they refused to call a city taxi for me for airport transportation. Instead I had to use their own airport transportation that was about twice the price of the city taxi.
