From the moment I entered ,the staff were cheerful and very helpful.Room was very clean,as was linen and towels. Although I did not eat at the Inn as I was meeting friends, the staff gave directions and were very helpful. I would certainly recommend this Holiday Inn and am looking forward to my next stay.

Rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious. Staff are excellent - real pride in their job. Plenty of parking and in a good location too. Only word of criticism is that the room service tray charge is a whopping £4.50 which is more than the £2.50 I was charged a few weeks ago at the Crowne Plaza in the centre of London. Otherwise I have only praise.

The hotel might not be the most modern in the HI chain, but its people that make any hotel what it is, and the crew at Padworth Lane, were first class.
The hotel is very well situated just off the beaten track of the M4, but with good access not only to the road network, but also the railway station for access to Reading, London and Heathrow.
I found a very nice walk about 1/4 mile to the Avon & Kennett Canal, with several nice pubs on the walk, there is even a nature reserve signposted nearby too.
In all a very relaxing stop over.

Staff at check in were great, however our toilet was broken in our room, it wouldnt flush and looked like it hadnt worked for sometime given the dirt in the toilet. The shower needed a proper clean too, the rest of the room was good though.
value for money but wished the room hadnt been broken.

Reception and breakfast staff were super helpful and friendly.
Hotel room and public areas were just a bit sad and dingy. I've stayed in other Holiday Inns that have been much brighter and cleaner, and with larger rooms.
The bathroom was pretty old and some of the grouting was black.
Breakfast was v good.
It was v convenient for the event we were attending, otherwise I'd have no reason to stay there.

I stayed in this hotel as a last-minute booking due to a meeting change putting me in Reading very early (after a long drive from Manchester).
I turned up rather late and had already eaten, so my main intention was to catch up on email, shower and then sleep a few hours before heading on to my early morning meeting.
Upon arrival, the reception area was empty and I had to wait about 5 minutes to find a staff member. I had a look around and couldn't find anyone and there was no bell. Eventually, someone came out and served me.
She was very friendly and apologetic about the wait. I was a little irritated after a 4 hour drive, but she was professional and courteous. Recognising that I was a Platinum member, I was upgraded to a suite on the ground floor - which was quite a surprise.
The room was pleasant, if a little dated. It was of a good size with a large bed, warm/powerful shower and separate seating area. Internet connectivity was my main interest in this stay and it was fast enough to sync email and do some light browsing - so fine in my book!
The bar and food area looked quite popular and people seemed to be enjoying themselves (there may have been a wedding going on). However, I couldn't hear any of it, in spite of being quite close. I had a great nights sleep.
The next morning, I had to wait again for someone to serve me. Quite annoying! However, once again I was served courteously and went on my way.
In summary, the hotel is a little dated, but comfortable & quiet. The staff could perhaps install a bell or man the desk more proactively. I enjoyed myself though and it met all my expectations and goals for the evening.

Able to check in early, which was helpful as I was attending a wedding at 2pm locally, so could get ready leisurely after a 2'5 hour drive.
Staff were very helpful and attentive during my stay. They were able to answer all questions fully.
Would definitely return if I am ever in the area again.

Any hotel that charges paying guests an hourly rate for using the internet deserves to go out of business.
Cereal bowl had baked on cereal. Nasty.
Overpriced, tired hotel.

Reading - West is an excellent Holiday Inn. The hotel is a pleasant oasis just beyond the chaos of Reading or Basingstoke, more intimate than most. All the usual HI things, but on a human scale, which gives it (almost) a boutique hotel character. The staff are attentive, courteous & unflappably efficient.. This is our preferred hotel choice when in need of a stay in the locality.

The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast staff especially very helpful. If you have young children, it is a great hotel to stay in as it has a very good park nearby, along with a canal. I would definaltly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Great value room for Easter with advance purchase. Breakfast extra additional cost, but very good buffet selection and great quality, and freshly cooked Full English an additional benefit.
Comfortable and spacious room on ground floor too, though shame Internet is an expensive extra.
Nice touch of a complimentary newspaper.
Overall excellent service by all staff on reception and restaurant.
Good location for road access, if you dont need to be in the town centre, though a regular bus and train service is convenient.

I have had the pleasure of staying at Reading West for a number of years. I have never been as well looked after in any hotel (and I have stayed in a lot over the years). The staff are fantastic, and the food excellent. I would certainly receommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Reading area.

We had a really great stay, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and all seemed to genuinely care that we had a great stay.
The hotel is in need of a little investment in years but the personal and caring nature of the team far outways this.
I will definately be back

As an International Technical Consultant, I do spend a lot of time in hotels. I know what's good, and this one is BAD. Staff did not appear to know what they were doing. On arrival, I struggled to get my luggage through the pairs of double doors, as half of them were locked. Was then surprised to find all the rooms on the 1st floor with no lift. (I had to ask 3 times before they unlocked the doors.) The place was in a dreadful state of disrepair. Things got worse after I had dinner and a beer in the bar. After going to bed, I got a very late phone call to ask if I'd come back to the bar and pay. I was a Holiday Inn "Platinum" loyalty card customer and had paid for my room with Loyalty points. Consequently, they'd forgotten to "pre-authorize" my credit card. So, they're now disturbing the sleep of a Platinum customer, as they s*****d up. The stay itself was ok. Room was average and clean, albeit URGENTLY needing refurbishment. Checkout involved another battle to carry my luggage down flights of stairs and through the (again) locked double doors. I'm now back home looking at my credit card bill. I'm told that Holiday Inn pre-blocked £50 against my limit, and despite having paid all my incidental bills (dinner, a beer, mineral water and breakfast) at checkout time, they won't release the additional £50 for a further 10 days! They claim this is the bank's fault, and cannot see that it is they who made the charge!!! To add insult to injury, they even added a "service charge" (presumably for locking conscientiously watching guests struggle through a half locked set of doors by Reception) ...anyway, AVOID THIS HOTEL which is now on my company's Blacklist.

We stayed a night at this hotel and was very convenient for us It was clean and comfortable and good value for money. We did not eat in the hotel as we had made arrangements to meet some friends for a meal.

Dear Holiday Inn
after 2 years and 5 months at this hotel have eventually decided to move on. If it were not for the excellent staff and proximity to my place of work I would have done this a long time ago. Since I first started to use the hotel in Sept 2010 the hotel has needed a refurbishment and we have been told that it will be some time 'soon', the whole place with the exception of the bar/restaurant is very tired. Other than this the are many features which are just not quite right:
Heating system is noisy and not at all efficient - it takes hours to get a room warm and it then cools very quickly when the heating is off.
Gym facilities poor and often kit if out of action
Bathrooms - gaps around the edges of the white good and one room had woodlice problems...I expect a hotel to be at least as cofortable as my own home, and it is not.

The hotel is a little way from Reading but as we used to live locally we knew this when we booked. Initially had a problem with the room but quickly moved by friendly and helpful receptionist. I have stayed in two of the other IHG hotels in Reading and I found rooms in Reading West compared very favourably and of good size and standard. I found the staff friendly and helpful and would stay again.

In the middle of nowhere but near a main road so quite noisy. Nowhere to go without your car, tried a couple of local pubs but they were long since turned into restaurants. So I ate in the hotel. The menu was uninspiring and expensive - designed for people on expenses I suppose. £11 for a burger and fries and they automatically add 10% service charge onto the hotel bill. The bar was not somewhere you would want to spend any time, and it had a poor selection of beers. Restaurant similarly was somewhere you would go out of necessity. Room and general decor was OK. Bed was large but a bit lumpy. Good shower, wash basin cracked. Breakfast was a good selection, though some larger plates would have been nice for the cooked breakfast (not to fit more on, just so you felt less greedy!). Overall it felt more like a motel - I would stay again but only if there was nothing better!

I am away from home a lot, on this occasion my Wife was with me, and we had the most relaxing time we have had in a long time.The outside, along with the inside of the Hotel smacked of PRIDE IN OUR HOTEL. A lovely welcoming fire in reception, along with an equally warm Hello made us comfortable straight away.
The room was spotless, and very comfortable.
We had a drink at the bar and watched the football. We ate in the restaraunt. Superb food, cooked to order.
Attentive staff, who know when to give you space.
Exceptionally good value.
In life you generally get what you pay for. This was the exception to that rule.
