Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Convinient location, good Service We stayed at the Holiday Inn Golden gate for 4nights,overall it was a good experience. Hotel room clean and comfy although a bit dated. Receptionist the first night @check in was great, the others not always of the same standard, Coffee shop and bar rather poor with not so competent staff. I would stay again but would probably avoid the bar! November 15, 2014

The staff was very welcoming, I loved being able to walk to Whole Foods. My only compliant is how dirty the windows were. I had a corner room and the views were fantastic but I would have enjoyed them more if the windows had been clean. November 14, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Location. Excellent Service. Worth It. This Holiday Inn is in a perfect San Francisco location. Close to trolley on California St and it has 2 bus lines running to and from Fisherman's Wharf area. Hotel was very clean and relatively noise-free, considering you're on a busy road in downtown area. I highly recommend getting a CLIPPER passport for all Muni & trolley transportation. You can buy it directly at the concierge desk in hotel lobby or at the bus station kiosks. It makes your public transport needs very easy & cost effective. Bus stops are very close to hotel entrance. Coffee shops & eateries close by + Whole Foods is 1 block away. Hotel has a restaurant on premise which has decent food. However, they close at 11pm and there are no snack machines or sundry items for sale after hours. I did see 1 soda machine. Laundry facility on site, which is a bonus, but bring lots of quarters with you. Service was impeccable at every turn - front desk, housekeeping, concierge and restaurant. It's worth every cent to stay at a well-run, well-maintained hotel like this one. November 14, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great room, sub-par service The room itself was very nice. Cleaning staff was top-notch and there were no problems once I checked in. The front desk staff member I dealt with when I first arrived, however, was less than pleasant. She gave me a hassle about the card I used to book the room, my preference for breakfast, and went to the back room to confer with colleagues without telling me what was going on. Thankfully, this was the only time I dealt with the front desk staff. Aside from that issue, my stay was fantastic. November 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grat Value This hotel is right next to the last stop of the California cable car line. Very easy to use the cable car since this stop is not full of tourists. Perfect for business travel to bring along the family that wants to see the sights while you work during the day. Hotel is a little bit older, but it has excellent view of the city and is a 26 story tall building in an area without many other tall buildings. Room décor is a little bit dated, but if you can get past it, this hotel is excellent value compared to the many higher priced SF hotels. I also appreciated the kids eat free in the hotel restaurant benefit! November 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service, view and experience I usually stay here when I visit San Fran. It's close to everything, has amazing views and the service is always top notch. I brought my grandmother and we arrived very early. Although check in wasn't until 3, I put a request in for early check-in if possible. Baker, who was working the front desk, did all he could to get us in earlier and our room was ready by 1. He also made sure we had a great view as it was my grandmother's first visit to the city. He made sure we had a map and knew where we were going. I appreciate the friendliness and customer service of the staff and think it's great that a lot of the employees have been working here for decades. November 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Weekend Visit We were only there for two nights, in town for a wedding in which the reception was 2 blocks away. The check-in person was very friendly. We arrived early before the room was ready and they checked-in our bags. The concierge was helpful on things to do while we waited for the check-in time. His suggestion for the hop on/hop off city tour bus was perfect to see the sights and figure out where we wanted to go the following day. Enjoyed the Golden Gate bridge, Chinatown, and Fisherman's Wharf. The room was decent and roomy enough for 3 of us. Nearby restaurants within walking distance. Free wi-fi a plus. We were only there a short time and did not use the exercise facility or pool. The location was very convenient for the event we attended and easy to use public transportation to get around. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome view & comfortable stay I was a solo female traveler to SFO. Choosing safe place was must to me. Seeing reviews online for this hotel, I was convinced that its safe (not noisy) hotel near to popular streets of Union square. I was right & glad that I stayed here. Staff is good & front desk was also helpful to arrange for tours (45$ for 2 days, hop-on/hop-off). When I arrived, they upgraded my room to 25th floor. It was breathtaking view of concrete jungle & sea. Rooms were clean & big enough for solo. Max 2 people (plus a child) can be accommodated. Union square although is NOT walk able. However, bus from Post street (62/63) can take you union square in say 5-7mins in $2.5. This hotel is good for Indians as you have an Indian restaurant in the very next street (a min walk) which serves veg/non-veg meal & chai too :) November 10, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Better connecting doors needed I stay at Holiday Inn Gateway 2x a year. This time was a bit weird. The people in the next room- a family of 4 had a teen aged daughter who screamed at everything. Wrong channel, the wrong shoes, anything & everything made her shriek. The connecting doors aren't soundproofed - they should be. One scream of hers made me think she was in my room's hallway. She wasn't. I ended up going down to the front desk the next morning to ask if they could tell her to stop the screaming. 17 times before I lost count. I didn't hear a peep after- either they moved, checked out or she grew up. The drains do not drain fast enough- they should draw water down, and they don't. A sink drain should never take 3 minutes to drain. The walls are a bit dusty in the seams at floor- that was mentioned before. The sandwich and milk left over from the previous guest should not have been in my fridge. The desk/chair bed arrangement is too tight. It looks nice but doesn't do well with work flow. The iron legs do not allow the closet door to close well enough. (Closet is not deep enough?) On the other hand, the front desk/manager was amazing when I needed help with the safe. Likewise when the axial cable for the tv needed to be fixed- no NBC reception- someone was there fast. Basically it was clean, the staff was friendly and greeted guests-all good stuff. I like the renovation of the lobby and the first floor but sad to have lost the clerks in the gift shop- they were amazing references for sightseeing. I will miss them. November 4, 2014

We had a great room with view, given flowers, snack tray and champagne for our Anniversary, compliments of the hotel and staff. Meals were great, service was great, staff was friendly and very helpful. Cannot say anything derogatory about the hotel or staff. Great location. Cable car access was just around the corner of hotel. We had a memorable visit for our Anniversary and we cannot give enough thanks to the entire hotel and staff. November 4, 2014

But as a single woman, traveling alone, it is the staff that makes the most significant impression. Everyone from the front desk, to the wait-persons in the restaurant, and the housekeeper for my room, was exceptionally friendly, efficient, and helpful. I felt completely well cared for. Staff was efficient and attentive, seemed to care about quality of my stay. Town of SF is noisy and I woke more than usual by noise outside hotel. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Bad neighborhood and Old hotel The statement that you can only put so much lipstick on a pig fits here. The hotel is old and while renovated inside, still has that old danky smell. To boot, the smell from the restaurant down stairs wafts all the way unto the top floor.The exterior is in a shambles and the rooms with views unfortunately have windows that haven't been cleaned in years. Worst of all, the parking is ridiculous! As long as your car is 6' 2 " or shorter you're ok. But most SUVs and trucks have to park at least two blocks away. October 27, 2014

From the moment we checked in with the ever so charming front desk clerk whose name was Baker, until we checked out, with Baker as well, we were pleased. The staff was very pleasent and always greeted us no matter where we were. The location was prime and the views from our room were amazing. I read that the street noise was bothersome at this hotel but if street noise is a bother then you are in the wrong city. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit San Francisco. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, nicely updated hotel The location was great at the end of the California Cable Car line and had great access to the bus system as well. Nice neighborhood to be in/around. Hotel was nice and as expected from a remodeled/refreshed older hotel that has to make the most of smaller rooms. Plenty of plugins for all of the electronics that are traveled with nowadays. We had a corner room with great views towards the bay and the financial district. The view could have been better if the exterior of the windows were washed though. We really enjoyed the power shades for the windows as it provided a nice, expensive feel to the room. The bathroom was small but had plenty of counter space/shelving that could be used. I wish that there was a fan or better venting in the bathroom though since it just smelled damp and maybe a bit mildew-y even though no mildew was seen. After hanging your damp towel over the shower curtain rod, it was still damp the next day due to the poor ventilation in the bathroom. We only ate at the restaurant one morning for the breakfast buffet. There was plenty of options on the buffet but then again it is a buffet and sometimes things aren't the most freshly prepared if you are towards the end of the buffet time. We were offered to have eggs prepared as we liked if we didn't want the scrambled eggs that were on the buffet, that is a nice touch. I felt that the buffet was a bit on the expensive side for breakfast but there were a lot of options there so it makes sense for the "upscale price". October 27, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the price Was there for a conference that was at the hotel. Would have been nice if there were room rate discounts. The room was clean. I was supposed to get a daily newspaper which I only received on my day of check out. The window shade was stuck in the upright position and i couldn't get them down. I also wasn't offered any breakfast coupons as I saw other people got. Next time will look for another place perhaps less expensive. October 27, 2014

He was incredibly friendly after many flight delays, gave me all the information I needed, and set me up in an amazing 25th floor corner room with views of the city, Alcatraz, and glimpses of the Golden Gate. The room and hotel were very clean and comfortable. One negative was the amount of guests smoking immediately outside the front doors. I had hoped they would be encouraged to smoke further away from the building and the other guests loading/unloading. October 25, 2014

The rooms are very clean and comfortable; in fact, I think the mattress is more comfortable than my Stearns & Foster at home! It is also nice to see the same, friendly staff every year. The hotel is at the end of a remodel and looks wonderful. I slept so well, the bed was so comfortable, I pulled back the sheets to see what kind of bed I was sleeping on, it's a Beautyrest. The rooms were recently redone, and now the new lobby is beautiful. Hallway and room to room noise transmission is minimal. The location is great.
