Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great 'get-away' hotel All staff at this hotel are friendly and professional, which I have found to be a tough combination for a lot of other hotels to achieve. The beds here are a dream - great nights sleep, and the room was spotless and very comfortable. We ate a 3-course dinner and breakfast at the hotel but did not arrive early enough for lunch, otherwise we would have eaten there for that too. All food was lovely, nicely presented and tasted fresh. There were no bad points to this hotel - we would recommend and will be staying again. February 26, 2015

When I saw the hotel I had high hopes - obviously nice & new, and within a couple of hundred yards to Southend Airport - ideal for an early flight out to Switzerland in the morning. However, problems started when I had to wait 15 minutes in a queue to check-in - one of the receptionists had apparently "disappeared" and despite a number of calls from the increasingly beleaguered colleague, the absentee couldn't be traced! There was then no recognition whatsoever in terms of Rewards Club status... But the worst experience was at 3:50 in the morning when the air conditioning system started making all sorts of repetitive mechanical noises, despite me having switched the thing off before retiring...! Having said that, the room itself was spacious, the bed comfortable and the bar meal was very acceptable. But all in all, I really expected better and was somewhat disappointed I'm afraid... The park and fly deal worked very well for us as we could leave the car in the hotel car park and walk (5-10 mins) to the airport in the morning. Dinner was enjoyable and the room clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. February 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A great start to a flight I stayed at the Southend Holiday Inn last week and found it to be perfect for my needs. My customers and I had an early flight to Berne and this made the trip so much more relaxing. We had a warm welcome from the front desk, we parked our car for the duration of our trip and had a light meal in the restaurant. In the morning we walked a short distance to the quiet departures hall. For the standard of the room and the location it was a real bargain. Would recommend it to anyone travelling from the airport or staying in the local area. February 15, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by What a change My 3rd stay.Returned because of our previous experiences. Reception staff as brilliant as ever. Decided this time to have a bar meal for quickness. A mistake! Having praised the food in previous reviews I was some what disappointed. Food took 30 minutes to arrive with no explanation given,stooping to eat from a low table uncomfortable (my fault ) should have eaten in the restaurant,may have been quicker also.Hope there may be some improvement before next trip,( or back to Stansted,) February 14, 2015
