Very nice room. Lots of space and light. Bed was extremely comfortable and clean. Great restaurant/bar in the lobby. I'll be staying here again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Isla West Nespress tea/coffee makers are hard to operate
The Nespresso tea/coffee makers are hard work to get going and the water doesn't get hot enough for a good brew. A kettle would be a more practical solution.
Everything else in the hotel is great and it's my first choice in Zurich.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Margie811 One difficult night….
It's hard to accurately rate this hotel. The building is new, fresh, clean, and modern, as are the furnishings. Our upgraded room was quite large by European standards, and the nightly rate was comparatively low. The staff we interacted with was professional, friendly and efficient. While the location isn't near the city center, it is close enough to one of Zurich's easy to use trolley stops. But, the quality of our sleep was terribly poor due to an extremely hard mattress and an inefficiently operating air conditioner which rendered the room very hot and exceptionally stuffy. Unfortunately, the windows didn't open more than a couple of inches, so we were unable to achieve a satisfactory temperature all night long. The hardwood floors do not absorb sound so, when your upstairs neighbor is walking around, you are very aware of it. One design oddity to be noted is the bathroom door ~ it is frosted glass with areas of clear glass design, which doesn't afford much in the way of privacy should one require it. Generally, this is a nice enough place to stay, but I'm sure our visit would have been more pleasant during non-summer months.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SWLNY Excellent hotel for travelers using Zurich airport and railpasses
My husband and I had stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from June 28, 2014, and we would highly recommend this hotel, especially to those travelers using railpasses and/or Zurich International Airport. Since many other reviewers have already given excellent reviews on various aspects of this hotel, I will just add travel tips for the potential guests who are searching for more specific information on getting around from the hotel before making their decision on choosing this hotel. This type of information is very important, because this hotel is not in the city center.
(1) From Zurich Airport to the hotel by S-bahn & bus: Get enough Swiss Franc (CHF) from an ATM at the airport. Or change your money to Swiss France at an airport’s money change window. Since the exchange rate at the airport window is really bad, change only enough money (e.g. $ 20.00) to buy bus ticket to Zurich Oerlikon Train Station. Holiday Inn Hotel's exchange rate is better than the rates at the airport or the train station. Follow the train sign to the S-Bahn platform located at the airport terminal’s lower level, and take S-bahn # 2 or 16 toward Zurich HB direction. Railpasses will cover this ride as long as they have been activated and their the travel dates are in effect. Get off at Oerlikon Bahnhof (Zurich Oerlikon Train Station), the 1st stop from the airport train station. We could not find any elevators or escalators at this train station. Walk down to the underground concourse toward the station’s main exit next to platform # 1. Climb up the stairs, and turn left and walk straight ahead looking for the ticket kiosk area to your left. Use a ticket machine there to buy a single ride bus/tram ticket. Be sure to select "Short Distance" ticket for 2.6 CHF (2.9 US dollar) which is cheaper than regular single ticket. The ticket machine will print a 2nd class ticket for a short distance ride with the effective time already stamped on it. The effective time on the ticket is more than enough for you to ride a bus to the hotel. Since the ticket already has time stamp on it, you don't need to validate it on the bus. Out of the ticket kiosk area, turn left and walk straight ahead to the end of the train station plaza to board Bus # 63 or # 94 at the bus stop across the street. The bus stop is on the street out of the train station plaza because of the extensive construction at the plaza. You can easily find space for your luggage on the bus. You will get off at the 2nd stop (Messe/Hallenstadion stop), and walk into the hotel's main entrance on the right.
(2) From the hotel to Zurich main train station and Zurich city center: Before leaving the hotel, ask at the front desk if you can buy your "Short Distance" ticket for your bus ride to Oerlikon Bahnhof. If they only have regular tickets, you can buy your "Short Distance" ticket from the ticket machine at the bus stop right outside the hotel. You can simply step out of the hotel's main entrance and cross the street to find a bus stop slightly toward left. You can buy your "Short Distance" ticket from the ticket machine there if needed. Board Bus # 63 or # 94, and get off at Oerlikon Bahnhof (Zurich Oerlikon Train Station) which is only 2~4 minutes away (2nd stop). Walk to the train station, look at the train time and platform number for any train or S-bahn to Zurich HB direction. You would arrive at Zurich HB in about 5 minutes.
At Zurich HB (Zurich Central Station) you can walk out of the station to the city center or the Old Town. Or you can transfer to any trains to your desired destination cities. One valuable perk for first class railpass users is free access to SBB Lounge at Zurich HB. The lounge is close to the head of platform # 9. From platform 9, walk straight ahead toward the station exit looking for a small SBB sign on the right side. Once you see SBB sign on the right, enter the narrow passageway to SBB. Keep walking straight ahead to the end of the passageway to an elevator. Use the elevator to go 1 flight up. Show your railpass to a receptionist. The lounge has relaxing sofas/couches, free newspapers, water, juice, coffee, tea, and restrooms as well as free internet connection. It also has 2 computers and 1 printer, making it easy for online airline check-in and printing boarding passes in addition to internet surfing. Watch out for the keyboard layout if you are used to U.S. style keyboard!! The locations of the keys for "Y" and "Z" have been switched around. The printer was connected only to one of the two computers. Therefore, ask an attendant there which computer is connected to the printer before going through your online airline check-in for boarding passes. During our visits to SBB Lounge, even free beer bottles were available in the late afternoon.
(3) From the hotel to Zurich Airport: Zurich airport is somewhat complex and security check is time consuming. Therefore, you are advised to leave the hotel at least 2 1/2 hours before your flight time. If you still have a train day left with your railpass, you can go to the train station by Bus # 63 or 94 as usual by buying "Short Distance" ticket from the bus stop. At the train station (Oerlikon Bahnhof), you can take any train to Zurich Flughafen (Zurich International Airport) direction, including S2 and S16 trains. If you cannot use railpasses, you can buy a 2nd class ticket to the airport (Zones 1 & 2) from the hotel front desk for CHF 6.60 (7.3 US dollars), which can be used for Bus # 63 or 94 ride as well as S-bahn ride to the airport. Train ride to the airport would be about 5 minutes. At the airport terminal, find out your "Check-in Area" for your airline first, and go to the correct check-in area. Check-in areas for various airlines are on different floors. Once you are in the correct "Check-in Area", you still need to find out what is your airline's check-in counter location such as "Row 1", " Row 2", " Row 3", because each check-in area is huge. After passing through the Security Check counter and the Passport Control booth, be sure to move on to the boarding gate area without wasting time, because you might need to walk and ride a train to get to your departure gate.
