Rated 4,0 out of 5,0 by Good for One Night Stay I wouldn't take the family to the area and stay there. The rooms were far too small. The bathroom did have an excellent shower. Too often I stay in hotels where the shower head is horrible, or the tub is way to small to even stand in. Courtesy of the employees was spot on. 11. September 2014

Rated 2,0 out of 5,0 by Poor Front Desk Service. My stay at the Holiday Inn Express Staten Island was particularly disappointing because of the incompetence of one of the front desk employees. Obviously, being a Holiday Inn Express, the hotel is understandably light on on amenities. Therefore, there is not much that could go wrong that could really cause the stay to be disappointing. However, bad customer service is one of those things. I asked in the morning that the hotel send a suit out for dry cleaning that was needed for a wedding taking place two days later. I used the form that the hotel provided me and selected "Suit" under the Dry Cleaning heading and provided this form, my verbal request for dry cleaning, and the suit I wanted dry cleaned. Later, I received a call from the front desk staffer I spoke with when I sent out the suit that she had sent it out to get Laundered rather than dry cleaned because she wasn't sure which method I wanted done. She was either illiterate or inattentive because it was quite clear what I wanted done as I could see in the carbon copy receipts from the form I filled out. This staffer then went on to tell me that they recalled the item and would have it sent to the right place to be dry cleaned and I would get it later that day or in the morning. Laundry and Dry Cleaning are done at two different places. Problem solved, right? No. I came back late that evening, like 10 pm, to find that the suit had been returned to the front desk. However, it was not dry cleaned and obviously was not going to be able to be dry cleaned, either, given the current time of day. I took back my still un-cleaned suit and went to bed. The next day I checked out, and this same front desk staffer was present. I spoke with her about what happened and she had the audacity to say that it "should have been dry cleaned not returned" and that that the error was "on the cleaning company." Wrong! It's on you and HIE Staten Island. HIE sent it to the wrong place and you failed to do your job adequately, which then caused me to have to attempt to find an alternative place to do the cleaning at rather than conveniently being able to use the services at the hotel I was staying in. This unnecessarily interrupted my plans for that day and wasted several hours of my time. She did ask if there was anything she could do to make up for the mistake and insultingly offered me a cookie. No, I would not go back here. 8. September 2014
Rated 5,0 out of 5,0 by Great base for exploring New York City We were on a road trip on our way from Washington DC towards Canada, and used this hotel as a base for spending two days in New York City. There's not a lot of parking but it is free, and we just about managed to get a space both nights. From here it's a relatively easy drive to St. George's to take the ferry to Manhattan. This hotel is more expensive and the rooms smaller than all the other hotels we stayed in on our road trip, and there's no swimming pool. But we recognise that this is as a consequence of it being in New York. What the hotel lacked in space, it made up for in other areas. The staff in particular were really friendly (particularly the lady at breakfast time, and the front desk staff member who checked us in), and we enjoyed the pancake machine and the breakfast in general. If we ever came back to New York City, we would strongly consider staying here, particularly if with a car. 6. September 2014
