The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms clean, comfortable and very well furnished. I left very early each morning and we had very bad weather but the staff worked hard to get breakfast out on time. The one issue that needs to be addressed is the sulfur smell in the water. I suspect it the well needs to be cleaned with chlorine. It is a common problem with well waters in southeast Minnesota. Either that or add a carbon filter to the hotels water supply.

Room was very clean, breakfast was ok. Heat in room wasn't as warm as we liked. Shower was great! Girl at counter needed my government ID in order to give me the special rate - most places don't ask!!!

Staff and room was great. When we turned on the water it smelled like a sewer. We were scheduled to stay two nights. We had to cancel and move to a different motel for the second night.
We will never stay that this motel in the future nor will we recommend it to anyone you asks.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Oldwoodbarn Nice but hard to get to
This hotel is a nice stay. Only two comments.
It is hard to get to. I have stayed there before so knew my way but when it's dark people unaware of where it is would have hard time getting to it. Better signage might help.
The water smells bad. I did wash my hair anyway but was scared to drink it!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Northwoods8425 Noisy and horrible water!
Not only is the room so noisy that you feel the trucks rumbling while you sleep...the water is not drinkable. The stench of sulphur was nauseating. On the positive side, the gal at the front desk gave me a couple of bottles of water and assured me the smell would not be too bad in the shower.
I planned on enjoying the hot tub but it was out of order. Probably just as well as another guest coming from the pool area commented that the combination of the chlorine odor and the sulphur oder was horrible.
The eggs at breakfast we too salty to eat.
On the whole...keep driving down the road to another hotel.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by roadman14 No Sign - Water Stinks
As a business traveler my stays are a IHG when I can. This Albert Lea property was very disappointing.
1) 3 attempts to find the proper road leading to hotel. No signage. Very dark surroundings, feeling like entering the Bates Hotel!
2) The water sinks! Could not wash my face without having a sulfur residue smell. Could not even think of taking a shower in that!. Get a reverse osmosis filter system to take it OUT!
I will not stay at this property again. That's too bad since I travel through there regularly.

Beds are comfortable, the help is friendly. I find price, although in line with similar hotels, is a little expensive.
The breakfast is fairly good, much better than cheaper hotels.
This particular Holiday Inn Express has a smell of sulfur in the water from the sink, I would be sure to have some bottled water to drink.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by vince1273 Make sure you verify your reservation ahead of time.
I will keep this short.. having been the only member of our party that verified our reservation we were lucky enough to get a double room. Two other families were left with king rooms, rollaways, floors, no towels and sheets. It made a family event very stressful. Not to mention broken whirlpool, broken breakfast options (pancakes) and as always when traveling in MN, make sure you ask how many youth hockey teams are staying. I would definitely would have considered another option even if it cost more. Definitely not worth the money. Couldn't leave fast enough.
