Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by In need of renovation The Holiday Inn in "Arras" is in dire need of renovation. The rooms (we saw two) are small, dark and stuffy - and what makes sleeping, nay staying there uncomfortable, is the fact that you're not able to open the window even for an inch. Hence the air is bad and stale. Not that there would be a fantastic view - we pretty much saw the backyard. Most annoying was the "door lock system"; the card key hardly ever worked. Once it took us five minutes and literally 30 plus efforts to open the door to our room, once only the staff could do it (and it took her also several attemps!). The staff at the reception clearly knows about this issue, but did its best to ignore our complaints and let us wait for ages... until we finally got to change our room. As a guest you should be able to easily access your room at any time and not wrangle with the door! On the plus side there was a fantastic breakfast - a great choice of cereals, different types of bread, a nice variety of cold meat etc - a real feast. I loved the orange press! The location is also fine - there are always (more or less) free parking lots on the street and it takes less than 7 minutes to reach the city centre. However - all in all for a Holiday Inn Express this hotel did not live up to our expectations; we had a very mixed experience. October 21, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great croissants We stayed two nights in the hotel centrally located for the Somme battlefields. The buffet breakfasts were really good and the croissants to die for! The room was clean and everything we needed. Good wi-fi. Staff pleasant and helpful. The parking was in the public car park underground - ok but not ideal. No restaurant in the hotel and we ate out locally. October 8, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No Non smoking rooms again. This is the second year we have stayed here and it is basically a nice hotel and suits our travel needs. However in spite of SPECIFICALLY BOOKING 2 NON SMOKING ROOMS WE WERE ALLOCATIED ROOMS WHICH WERE SMOKING AND SMELT STRONGLY OF CIGARETTE SMOKE, PARTICULARLY THE BEDS. Last year we were re allocated to a non smoking room, but this year the best we could do was to be given a can of air freshener. September 25, 2014
