Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for short stays, not so good for longer stays The main business of the hotel is to serve users of Cardiff Airport. Anyone using it to stay locally for a few nights, as I did, will have problems. Firstly car parking space is very limited, mostly taken up by airport parking. So you can't rely on finding a space each day. Secondly the rooms have no enclosed storage (cupboards, drawers) for clothes or personal items. So you can't unpack and must live out of your suitcase. There are just some shelves and a rail to hang clothes. On the plus side, the room has a desk and sufficient power points. WiFi is free, though high speed access has to be bought. The staff are excellent, the free buffet breakfast is good, though choice is a bit limited. Rooms are comfortable, well maintained and clean. Sound insulation is excellent, so sleep quality is good. There is a bar and lounge (with Sky TV) and evening meals are available. Food is fairly basic, and expensive for what it is. Most pubs would serve better quality food at a cheaper price. But it's tasty and edible. May 31, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed we booked a night`s stay before we were to fly away on holiday, when we stayed last March the week car parking was included in the price if you stayed for one night. When we booked on line this time there was no instructions telling us that we had to pay £50 for parking,So we assumed that we only had to pay £54 . If we knew it would cost us £104 we would have never have stayed as we only live one hour away, We feel upset as it was a bad start to our holiday. May 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed with changes Although a small point we were disappointed with the change in the shower gel now provided here. It is pink,of thin consistency and seems cheap. Other than this our stay here (a stopover prior to early morning flight) was pleasant. Our room was clean,comfortable and the towels were soft and fluffy.The staff were, as always, friendly and professional. Due to our airline changing the flight time to depart earlier, we were unable to take advantage of the buffet breakfasWe had to leave the hotel at 0300 and as this will also be the case in a couple of weeks when we are on the same flight we have decided not to stay here as its not worth it. It would have been nice if early departure guests were able to have a grab 'n'go cold breakfast from the cold buffet,but guess thats not possible. May 26, 2014

Even though I had a 3am call for my early morning flight the hot breakfast was available before I had to leave for the airport. No problem with sleeping close to the airport, could not hear any aircraft sound at all. Staff were extremely polite and helpful. May 24, 2014

Our room was good and it was great to have a choice of firm or soft pillows. Our early breakfast was more than adequate. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Overall - Staff a Tale of Two Halves I stayed on a rewards points night and overall, it was an excellent property with outstanding value. Relatively new, spotlessly clean rooms with the standard HIEx UK fit and branding. I was only there for one night, and a total of about 16 hours, so I was not looking for any more than what the property offered. The complimentary breakfast was a lot more than I was expecting with a lot more variety and choice, and in abundance. For a complimentary breakfast, it was also a much higher quality than I was expecting too, so a big plus on that part. When it come to staff, it was a sort of "tale of two halves". On check in, a very warm and friendly welcome, informative and helpful lady and it took a matter of seconds to complete the process. Checkout was a slightly different kettle of fish. The lady who was checking people out was also doubling at clearing tables and assisting in the breakfast area, seemed to be hassled and being pulled between the two areas. When she came to check us out, she had a cloth and cleaning solution bottle in her hand which was not ideal. Another customer came to the desk at the same time and stated that their wakeup call had not been delivered, and he was met with a rather brisk and curt reply which was not overly friendly nor helpful. Reception staff should staff reception, and the restaurant area staff (of which there were at least two, and it is not a massive area to manage) should staff the restaurant area. Does not leave an overly good departing impression, on what was, an overall good stay. May 12, 2014

Also the room service came only once in my three night stay. I am very disappointed for that. It was a good experience apart from this. May 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This was a nice surprise in Cardiff Talk about convenient to the airport, it's literally two minutes away, but the rooms are quiet, comfortable, clean, and new. It's a pretty new property. Staff were fairly attentive, and pleasant enough. They handled the poor gentlemen that had too much to drink, and tossed himself over a bar stool onto his head on the tile floor with professionalism, and didn't laugh until afterwards (which I was unable to do). Beds were quite comfy, and the linens and towels were new and good. Dinner was surprisingly good, considering my extremely low late evening expectations. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I was to be in the area. This hotel made no mention of me being an IHG Reward Club Member. April 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really nice and comfortable I am glad that we really had a good time at this hotel. The heating worked and the room was nice and warm. The only down side is the entertainment system on Television had very few channels working and the internet was very very slow. Apart from these, rest was brilliant. There was hardly any noise from planes or traffic with the airport next door. Overall a pleasant experience. Will definitely return! April 23, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for an early flight The hotel is literally a 5 minute walk from the airport or you can use the hotel's free shuttle bus or get a taxi for £4. All the staff I came across were more than helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was fine (it's free!) and dominoes pizza deliver free to the hotel. The room was fine basic but clean. The bed was a bit hard for me but that's my choice. Also it was a little bit noisy in the night but when you are this close to the airport it's a popular choice for early flyers so noises all hours are to be expected! Overall I would definitely stay at this hotel again. April 9, 2014

Unfortunately at my last stay, it was clear that my bedlinen hadn't been changed (very strong smell of perfume, which wasn't mine !) on duvet and pillows :( Was disappointed not to be offered any compensation - still waiting for response from Manager... Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor choice of room Having stayed at this hotel several times and found it to be more than acceptable for our needs on this occasion we were given room G25 on the ground floor right by the main entrance to the hotel - it wasn't the quietest of rooms with people passing the door inside the building and guests arriving or having cigarette breaks outside our window - it's amazing how quadruple glazing can eliminate aircraft sound but not the sound of people outside the window. The smoking area right outside the main entrance is also not ideal for guests arriving at the hotel. We have asked them to make a note that when we use the hotel again we are not allocated this room. Have stayed many times in the past 12 months with no problems, but stay was over shadowed by problems at check out with officious time wasting jobsworth who wanted to give the 3rd degree. If a room is guaranteed with a credit card and I dont show they take the money as agreed, but if you cant show and somebody stays in your place and your card acts as a guarantee why make such a fuss, it has never been a problem up till now. What to do next, should I run the risk of staying again or stay elsewhere, that is not good business sense for the hotel. March 6, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Total disaster!!! I had a dreadful experience at this hotel. In my room only a few surfaces were bothered to be cleaned. If you look at the picture of the rooms you see a large red picture above the bed, so after I lifted my mattress onto the bed, because it was hanging off, I took a closer look, to begin with I thought the surface was textured but no it was a complete sheet, yes sheet of dust. This made me a little curious as to the rest of the room, the inside of the long light on the wall was in the same state as was the tops of the sockets and other surfaces. It was clear that these had not been touched for several months. So decided to have a shower, the temperature knob came off in my hand and the water was scalding my feet, I called front desk and someone came and gingerly placed knob back on but fell off again as soon as he left. Finally I got into bed and the water pipes must have been behind the headboard which clicked continually ALL night. At 4 am I went for breakfast which was fair. I spoke to the gentleman on the desk and I gave him my email address and Spanish phone number for the manager to contact me, which to this day 2 MONTHS later I have had no contact from her, maybe it's because when they gave me the bill they had my address wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sheep, rabbits and a sea view A lovely stopover location with jovial staff, an invaluable little bar and if you look hard, a sea view. Great value and wonderful to enjoy fresh air when leaving at 4.30am with the smell of sheep in the air and rabbits roaming the car park. It made an early morning flight from Cardiff a pleasant, peaceful experience and it was wonderful to have breakfast laid on so early in the morning. February 26, 2014

The staff are eager to help wether it is by bring extra linen to the room for us or supplying us with information. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast is excellent. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Could be better As an airport hotel I'm looking for 3 things: a comfy bed, a quick and nice breakfast plus a quick journey to the airport. It's a shame but this hotel failed on all accounts. The bed was probably the worst I have slept on, lumpy, soggy and just plain awful. So hardly any sleep! The pre 6am breakfast is just continental (which is fine) but everything was stale and not edible. The breakfast room was freezing and everyone was sitting wrapped in coats. The shuttle to the airport was full when we checked in, but we were promised a taxi to the airport which did not turn up. The staff on the desk were not very useful trying to sort this out. However Andy the shuttle driver was a star. He sorted us out and got us to the airport in the end. Friendly, helpful and showed initiative! February 19, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovel hotel and staff This is a lovely hotel. Check in was fast and efficient. The room was comfortable and well decorated, and the bathroom was well equipped. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The inclusive breakfast was superb. Hot and plentiful. We couldn't fault it. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. We had left something important behind in our room after check out. The staff went the extra mile to contact us, so that we could retrieve it before we left the area. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient and Comfortable I enjoyed my stay at the HI Express Cardiff Airport. Parking was ample and the check in and check out facilities were good and the Reception staff friendly and capable. My room was nice, with little noise and it was nice to have Kenco coffee rather than the far inferior Nescafe Original. The pillows in the room were very thin so this might need to be looked at. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice and relatively plentiful. Choices for dinner however were limited, with nearly every choice being either friend of quite heavy. Overall however, good value for money and a restful night. January 26, 2014
