After a busy time over Xmas and New Year we decided to have a quite night away. The hotel was at the right price and a great location for Chester town centre with easy walking to all the bars and restaurants. The staff and the facilities are great and I can understand why this hotel has been full and we were unable to book in the past as it would be our first choice again.

When i did a price comparison i just could not beat this hotel. city center, free on site parking and free breakfast was just great.
All staff were most helpful and polite. My personal slight niggle was a very, very soft mattress which gave me back ache but others may like it. However would certainly return.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Canalside Good value accommodation close to city centre
We always use this hotel when visiting Chester as it's very convenient for all the amenities of the city centre but a very welcoming and comfortable base in which to stay. Just make sure you go down for breakfast in good time if you're there at the weekend - it's so popular that long queues form for the food!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Somers21 Uncomfortable Bed Affected Quality of Stay
Impressed by the use of space for the bedroom and en-suite bathroom which used one door to separate the toilet from the shower and basin unit. Sadly the quality of the bed was very poor due to the fact it had a large dip in the center when two people used it at the same time. This resulted in extreme muscle pain affecting the back and shoulders which allowed very little sleep during the night.

We were delighted with our first experience of Holiday Inn Express, we thought that this was the best value for money that we have ever had and we will always look for your hotels whenever we travel in the UK in the future.

We stayed at this hotel on New Year's Eve, the room was small but as we were there for 1 night it was more than adequate. We attended a venue in the racecourse and we fell out of the venue at 1.30am straight into the hotel lounge area were the bar remained open until after 3am. They gave us a late checkout at 11.00am and late breakfast which was lovely. It was a short walk into the centre of Chester and all attractions. Would definitely recommend a short stay in this hotel.

Was very impressed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are really good value a good size and quite homely which we wasnt expecting. If your looking for somewhere in chester book this one. The car parking was a major bonus to say we was only 10 min walk from chester central. Thanks

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Woodlands55 HANDY FOR TOWN CENTRE, FIRMER MATRESSES NEEDED THO
Only 3 mins walk into Chester town centre, good customer care and friendly staff. Room clean enough and everything required in room. But found the bed matresses much too soft and had a slight bad back after returning home from a three day stay. That was the only gripe though, as it was value for money at a hotel which was suitably placed. Just what me and my wife required.
Would be handy hotel had a gym, even if was a smallish one.

For a group the Holiday Inn express at Chester Racecourse is a hotel worth visiting. We've stayed on numerous occasions and for the money it's well worth staying. The rooms are warm and comfortable. I am a poor sleeper away from home, but stick my earpulgs in and I have a really good night;s sleep. Comfy beds and decent pillows. The only reason I use ear plugs is because other guests don't know how to close doors quietly - my bug bear in hotels overall. It's all lovely and clean and the staff are charming.

This hotel is perfectly located for both the racecourse and shopping. Secure parking within the racecourse saved a lot of hassle. The front of house is very well appointed and first impressions were very favourable. HOWEVER, our first bedroom looked as if the door had been kicked in at some point and the door frame quickly repaired. Unfortunately the lock did not work. Not good in a hotel room. We were quickly moved to another room by the very helpful staff. THis room seemed fine. THen we went to bed. The bed was only 4'6" wide, not good for big people, and it bounced around ao much we felt we were on a water bed! If one turned over the other had to wake up to hang onto the edge of the bed or fall out.
First impressions of the shower room were very good. The door to it also closed onto the toilet area which meant the room and the toilet could be used separately. The shower though, although it was a great power shower, flooded the bathroom floor every time it was used. The only way to stop this was to turn the head to the wall and just have a wash! THe reason for this was the fitting had been put too close to the back wall leaving no room to angle the shower head up or down.
Breakfast buffet was adequate but could have been improved with a few more hot choices. Sausage, scrambled egg and beans is not enough.
All in all we would stay here again although I would have to have assurances that the beds had been replaced.

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights for a xmas shopping trip. We hadn't been to chester before so didn't know what to expect. We did our research on line and decided to stay her because it was close to the centre. We couldnt of choosed better the hotel and chester was lovely. The hotel was really close to the main centre of chester like it said. The parking was free and the rooms were lovely and comfortable. We even had a lovely view of chester racecourse from our hotel window. We have already decided we are going to be staying again next xmas. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

Great on site parking, happy to help staff, comfy room, good quality of breakfast, over all very good,
Real Bean2cup coffee not instant would be nice
Deal with that machinery noise that comes form the race course from 04:00 to 23:00 each day, it is like a compressor for road works out side the window, it is too loud for a comfy nights sleep.
Sound proof it, Screen it, move it away from the buildings ANYTHING please

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CharlieCharlie excellent location, rubbish breakfast
I would highly recommend this hotel as a perfect (and affordable) place to stay if you are having a night in Chester as it is literally on the edge of the city, an easy 5 minute stroll to the centre.
However, the food was rubbish (luke warm & tasteless) so I would say stay here but have your breakfast somewhere else.

We stayed in this hotel for a shopping trip to Chester and visit to Cheshire Oaks following day. Hotel was in a great location next to racecourse with easy walk into Chester. Free parking. Room was clean and comfortable and despite facing onto main road there was very little noise. Only downside was breakfast, we struggled to find a table and had to wait about 10 mins, shortage of hot food and crockery and cutlery. But would definitely stop there again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Webbyland Great value, wonderful location and friendly staff
Went to Chester for two days to attend a wedding, last month.
Overall, had good experience. Great value for money, town centre walkable, staff very friendly and helpful.
Share a room with my daughters, so the extra bed (which was very hard!) meant less space in the room - but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Room overlooked the racecourse - but also the train track - thankfully there were only two trains during the night.
We asked for an iron and extra tea and towels (as there were three of us) and these appeared within minutes.
Would highly recommend for value for money on an overnight stay - wouldn't recommend if you intend to stay in the hotel rather than out and about.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Karen65 Clean, simple and excellent location
The hotel is well placed if you want to walk into the city centre. it is only a few minutes stroll away and has free parking. We knew it was a basic hotel and at just £50 B&B per night (£25 per person for a double room), it is a great price. If you are looking for a luxury break, however, look elsewhere. The only issues we had was that the bed was hard and we could feed the springs through it, but when we told reception, they quickly put a topper/duvet over the mattress and we had a much better sleep on night 2. Also, just a heads up about breakfast...it is very basic (as you would expect at such a price) and served in a canteen like atmosphere. However, it is plentiful and at least provides a full stomach before a mammoth shopping spree!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Argolfawr Quiet and straight forward
For Chester this hotel offers good value. Having stayed on a couple of occasions recently, the staff are helpful and the location close enough to the city center to walk, while far enough not to suffer nightclub spill noise. The rooms themselves were fresh (NS) and clean. The corridors look a bit tired though. Surprisingly, an adjacent railway track didn't pose any noise issues. Parking is also good.
That just leaves the breakfast... Hmm! On a 'take it or leave it' basis... I'd tend to leave it unless I was starving. Though I think HIE breakfasts are a country wide issue. But at least they offer a breakfast.
Overall quite happy with the experience and price paid.

Great location just a few minutes walk from city centre. Very quiet at night in hotel and can't here neighbours. Although hotel was fully booked there was good choice at breakfast and constantly refilled. Rooms are not big but ample size and very clean and warm. Would recommend this hotel for a base for a great weekend way in Chester.

It was a good experience to be with the Holiday Inn Express, most things were good, maybe it was a bit noisy the first days.
But over 3 weeks it was good, I will recommend the hotel, especially because of the very friendly staff .
Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Convenient for town centre and shops. Bed a bit too hard for me, otherwise a comfortable room even though we were in a room next to the railway line, the trains didn't disturb us. We were offered a change of room when I asked at reception how long into the night the trains ran for (probably about 11p/m).

The hotel is in an excellent location within walking distance of everything. Whilst i know this is a Holiday In Express, i was dissapointed with the hot breakfast choice, scrambled egg, sausage and baked beans, that was it and that only just warm. The choice of cereals, fruit juice, fruit, tea and coffee was very good. The room was adequate but spoilt by thin walls and the noise from the room next door kept us awake and they weren't particularly noisey people. I have stayed in many Holiday Inns (not Express) and probably expected more.

THE ROOMS ARE EXCELLENT WITH EVERYTHING YOU COULD NEED EXCEPT FOR THE SOUND PROOFING ASPECT. WE WERE IN ROOM 202 AND THE NOISE FROM TRAFFIC WAS HORRENDOUS. IF YOU WANT A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP LOOK ELSEWHERE.
