Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value We have stayed on many occasions at the Waterfront and enjoy the consistency of standard whether room or food. The staff are always friendly and helpful no matter how busy they are. I have also found that my requests in terms of room location etc have always been met which shows the customer`s views are taken into account. On our last visit I thought the value was excellent. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed, great service, but poor heating system Please see previous comments; As indicated, the service in the hotel was of a good standard and the room was well-appointed, clean and comfortable in every respect other than the air quality and temperature control. The air-ducted system is slow to respond to adjustment before the fan kicks in, then directs noisy air, either too hot or too cold directly onto the bed, resulting in a poor night's sleep. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by friendly atmosphere n ideal hotel for transport into the city centre, its also near the ocean terminal shopping centre. staff are very helful. would recommend this to anyone November 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Shame about the food Have stayed at this hotel many times and the cooked breakfast menu has never changed. Sausages and scrambled egg which have been kept warm for a long period of time are totally inedible. Cereals, toast, fruit and all drinks are perfect. November 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Stay We stayed for two nights on the weekend of the November 14 - 16 2014. We where a little apprehensive about the location of the hotel and the welcome we could expect given a certain review of it, but we needn't have bothered. The hotel was easy to get to, the"Ocean Terminal" location is well sign-posted and the post code was recognised by even an ageing sat nav. The hotel is fairly new and well maintained throughout. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet. and after dark we noticed what a quiet location this was in. The staff where warm, welcoming, friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. We arrived having booked the last room (a twin). As a couple we would have preferred a double room and asked if we could be moved if one became available. No sooner had we arrived in our room and dropped our bags off than the receptionist was knocking on our door to say that they had had a cancellation and we could be moved there and then, We thought this was a very nice touch . We found the two rooms we had been allocated to be comfortable, spotless and quiet. There is a large restaurant area on the ground floor where a buffet breakfast ( quite nice - great sausages) is served each day but sadly no food served in the evening. However, Ocean Terminal s 200 yards away and there are a number of good restaurant chains (Zizzi, Tikki, Franky & Benny's) to name a few) amongst the two floors of shops and Vue cinema . We ate there on the first night and had a relaxing drink in the bar afterwards. If you fancy somewhere more upmarket then there are some excellent bar / restaurants along Commercial street between 100 - 800 yards from the hotel, The French Bistro looked quite enticing as we walked past the open kitchen door and smelt the cooking, whilst next door "Bond No9" looked quite a popular bar/restaurarant for the over 25's. We walked on further up to the cross roads where there where plenty more bars and places to eat. We passed an Indian restaurant, a fish restaurant, Nepalese,a gastro pub , an American diner and a few drinking establishments before settling for a nice Italian at Giuliano's - who found us a table on what was a very busy Saturday night. The food was excellent and we where made to feel very welcome. There are also art galleries and shops aplenty. I had not been to Leith since I was a sailor in the late 1970's, I was not expecting much to have changed given its a dock side area. However, the transformation between then and now is amazing , what a great surprise. All helped by the fact that the hotel is well situated for public transport , being so near to the Ocean Terminal bus terminus. The £3.50 all day bus fare at weekends is a bargain and you get to meet some of the surly Edinburgh bus drivers and experience their sunny disposition. at no extra cost. The buses appeared to come and go quite regularly outside the hotel, even on Sunmdays. There are three services that you can get from outside the hotel entrance to the centre. The number 35 will take you up the Easter Road to the bottom of the Royal Mile and the Queen's Edinburgh residence, at Holyrood Palace, and the parliament building in 10 minutes, a good place to start your sight seeing. Whilst if you take the number 22 or 11 they will take you up the Leith Walk and drop you off at St James shopping centre , just round the corner from Princess Street, handy for Rose Street and George Street. All that info was courtesy of the hotel staff who we found to be very friendly and helpful. So if you are looking for somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh city centre where you can relax in pleasant surroundings with something "going on" nearby then head for the Montmatre of the Lothians . I recommend this hotel and Leith. November 20, 2014
