Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Best Available The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the rooms at this hotel are always clean, but it's obvious that management isn't investing as much in maintenance and upkeep as they should be. This time it was a freezing cold shower and the heat was either on full blast so the room was a sauna, or off so it was freezing. Last time half the electrical outlets didn't work. The time before that it was broken chair leg patched with duct tape, that almost dumped me in the floor. Another time the refrigerator was broken and the Wi-Fi was dead. Usually not anything major - It's basically just a long series of minor annoyances. Other than the staff, the sole saving grace of this hotel (and the reason I keep going back) is that as frustrating as it can be, it's better than anything else in the immediate area. March 7, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel on the Hill This hotel was a complete dive. It took the sarcastic desk clerk 3 attempts in booking us this very old, out dated, and in desperate need of a makeover room. First room smelled damp & musky and upon entering the bathroom I soon found the culprit... 2 hugh puddles of what I only HOPE was water on the most hideous looking mud colored dodo brown grout tiled floors. And the phone didn't work. Second room, well I never gained entry because the card key mal-functioned (probably a blessing). It mean't another trip to the desk. Third room wasn't any more pleasing. The heating system was so loud it was senseless having the TV on. Dark old stained carpet, and towels in need of bleach. Just overall dinky. The best thing about this stay was checking out. Side Note: And why would anyone drink from a one cup coffee machine housed in a bathroom. March 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Duke visit I was in the Durham area with family members who were in Duke University hospital. I initially chose to stay in the Holiday Inn Express Hillsborough because when I arrived in the area at 2 AM it was the first one I saw. I spent the first night there and intended to find a hotel closer to the hospital the following day. Instead, I spent the next few nights there. This decision was due to the staff. Their friendliness, courtesy and helpfulness were the reason I decided to make the 10 minute drive rather than stay at a hotel that was closer and less expensive. I dealt directly with 4 or 5 members of your staff and, without exception, they were fantastic. You have a staff to be very proud of !!!!! February 27, 2015

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor customer serivice Unfortunately we had someone try to break into our room late at night. Lucky for us when my husband shouted at the person they left. I called the desk. The person's name was Kathy. All she said was "Oh" nothing else. She did not call back to check on us, say she was sorry or anything. She did not offer to call the police if we felt this was needed.. We were on the first floor very close to the desk. We had stayed at a Holiday Inn in Savannah at the start of our trip 2/14. It was wonderful. February 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Duke Hospital Visit I had to visit Duke University Hospital for a family emergency and decided to stay at the Hillsborough Holiday Inn Express. I didn't know from one day to the next how long I would need to stay. The staff was great, showing their flexibility to my often changing schedule. All in all, this was a nice hotel. But, the staff set this one apart from the rest. Without exception, they were absolutely fantastic. It is evident the entire staff is dedicated to their customer's comfort and satisfaction. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely stay here. Although I rated the breakfast choices at 3, I will have to add there was always a staff member at the breakfast area making sure the food was ready and fresh. I just feel there could have been more choices. February 23, 2015
