Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Reluctantly recommend I've been staying at this place about once a month for the last two years. The hotel ownership has tried to improve the property in the last year or so. A fresh coat of paint was applied by some not-so-skilled painters. Perhaps there has recently been some other general maintenance accomplished for which I'm not giving them credit. However, this hotel remains only a fair value. They know their market, have a complete lack of competition and they charge accordingly. I pay 20%-25% more at this IH Express property than I do at any other in the region. Nearly every room I've ever stayed in has at least one towel rack/bar that is pulling out of the wall. Obviously, when the place was built, no blocking was put in the walls. Sheet rock anchors don't work in hotels. Half the rooms I've stayed in have a loose shower head that pulls in and out of the sheetrock--the plumber didn't anchor the pipe to the stud in the wall. Another construction problem. Many of the shower heads are no longer adjustable because of age and hard water deposits. A couple of times I've experienced a very slow drain in the shower/tub. I frequently find hairs in various places in the bathroom. Towels sometimes have frayed edges or missing hems. Some rooms smell damp/dirty and others do not. During a recent stay, I was still in the room at 8:30 AM. I was going to put the DND sign out, but there wasn't one in my room. Someone from housekeeping knocked and I announced my presence. They left. About 20 minutes later, I got in the shower. While I was in there, I thought I heard someone slam a door nearby...wasn't sure, but I did hear something. After I got out of the shower, I left the bathroom and found my door pushed to the end of the keeper lock and just left there ajar. I could see through the 1"+ crack and into the corridor. This was unnerving. Someone had obviously tried to enter the room, couldn't open the door all the way and decided the best thing to do was to leave it open and unlatched. By the time I left, there was no one visible on the floor and the front desk person wasn't behind the desk. I had to get to an appointment, so I left without commenting to anyone. The beds are comfortable, the desks, TV's, outlet placements and WiFi are all good. The breakfast is typical HI Express fare. The front desk staff has always been fine. I don't use the pool or exercise room, so I can't comment on that. All the problems they have are typical hotel problems. However, the issues are widespread and more consistent than they ever should be. I wouldn't be so bothered by these things if I wasn't paying what I consider to be close to top dollar in this hotel category. If I can adjust my travel to avoid this place, I do. However, if you find yourself in O'neill, this is really the only decent place to stay. I've tried the others in may want to stay away from them. May 11, 2015

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Needs better inspections . It is dirty at times and I noticed bed linens did not get changed until Thursday. Also, they gave me dirty pillow cases as well. They are really going downhill. Also, once when I was in the room, the hotel staff walked in on me. No knock or anything. The guy that came in just turned around and left when I said, “someone is in here”. No apology, no “excuse me”. It was creepy. April 30, 2015
